If u watched Doug Bruno's post-game presser you will have PART of the reason for Azzi's sub par scoring in this game. DePaul's defense was slanted to stopping her. All that attention on her perimeter game opened up space in the post for Aaliyah & Dorka - and they took FULL ADVANTAGE for a combined 41 points. So that was Azzi's "invisible" contribution to the win. Her D, as you accurately pointed out, was the VISIBLE contribution. She keeps getting more comfortable every game and that will reap BIG dividends in March.
At 58/1:31, Edwards flattens Morrow & goes coast to coast for a layup. I saw a team effort & i saw UConn's tall girls take DePaul's dirty girls to the hoop. Sure, DePaul has some talented Smurfs, but nobody enjoys a growth-spurt after the tipoff, and on Friday night, Morrow was still a talented troll who didn't get to whack anyone in the head & concuss her like she did to Ducharme. Yeah, she got her double-double, but she couldn't stop Juhaz & Edwards from taking her & Church to the hole for about 20 lay-ups and more than 45 points. Being talented thugs didn't get them a "W" against UConn Tall Girls on 2/11/22. More Thug News: Rogers elbowed Nika Muehl in the boobs at 1:04; obviously, she wanted to hurt Nika because Rogers let the clock run out instead of shooting: Bush League, cheap shot by Rogers. However, at 1:14:00 #22 , Westbrook, pays her back by a) stealing her inbounds pass, b) elbowing her in the mouth, c) taking a shot, d) whacking Rogers in the chops again with an elbow, and e) making the layup off the steal. All the time, senior forward/guard, #22, Westbrook looked as calm as an unperturbed choir girl. I thought she was finished, but she continued to put on a private show on a level I did not know she had. That girl can steal the ball, she can block shots & shoot. She also can protect herself & her teammates. She'll do well in the pros.
They had good pacing and movement without too many fouls or turn-overs. They played good defense all the way. Offensively it was great to see everybody involved, though AZ's 3s weren't falling. Perhaps best, but easy to overlook was that the high-scoring DePaul team never got going with 3s or Morrow down low. We have to credit good guard defense to Nika and AZ and in the paint to Dorka. Great team defense is as fun to see as team offense!
I was hoping too. But I’ve noticed MJL243 uploads ‘em same day, when life allows, I’m sure. Had to wait on the Villanova game, but after watching it, I figured MJL was too upset to do it right away. Lol.

The best part of the game was seeing Dorka so mobile and aggressive. That means her foot injury that has been plaguing her for a month is getting healed. According to Geno, she hasn't been getting on the floor to practice, but plays the games. So perhaps she is getting closer to 100%. Come March, if everyone is healthy except Aubrey, this will be a very tough team.

Especially the one saying williams should be benched and she’s putting up 20+ in these tough games..and ono needs to be benched and villa showed that ono is what holds this team together
@@desmondmckinnon Been a fan for over 30 years and I can tell you that if Geno had a deeper bench, he would have no problem benching players that are not playing up to their potential...I remember a game...not that long ago, where he took out all the starters at once and sent 5 new players in!! I had very high hopes for both Liv and Christyn, when they arrived, and there have been games where they have not played to their potential, and other games where they have. I think the inconsistency is what's driving Geno crazy, and the fans also sometimes. Always a fan regardless.... Go Huskies !!!

This game had a weird beginning with all the stoppage dealing with the clock but once the resume play uconn took charge by going to the basket . Dorka had a great game along with Williams and Edwards. Bith Muhl and Fudd played well defensively

Geno has coached the same way for YEARS. If you don't bear down and bring it with full intent EVERY DAY in practice you will not play in the games. I haven't actually SEEN Amari practice. But considering how shorthanded Uconn is in the front court right now? I can surmise THAT is the reason why Amari sits at this point. Geno demands 100% commitment and he's not gonna lower his standards. That's why Uconn is Uconn. Those players who can meet the challenge become better players, winners and, in many cases, successful pro players. Those players that can't meet the challenge transfer. It's not about just your talent - your "want to" will be tested. I'm pretty sure no player who transferred out had EVER had a pro career. Recent transfer Mir Mclean is now starting for Virginia and recently had her first 20 point game. CHOICE: u ca
AMARI CHOICE: like Mir Mclean, a very talented player. Mir couldn't get off the Uconn bench so she transferred to UVA. SO: you can start and maybe star for a team ranked 170 that has a losing record overall AND in conference. OR - you can try to swim with the sharks.
I think she has less pt because it’s harder for centers to integrate. They take more time to develop to the game. Not saying that’s the case but geno usually never play freshman bigs their first year. ONO didn’t really get pt her first year either. The only reason Aaliyah did last year is because they had no depth but they do this year.

Villanova goes into Connecticut and beats UConn, controlling the game for 35 of the 40 mins of play. DePaul, with a near identical record, plays UConn AT DEPAUL and can't win a single quarter of play. lol. Intimidated? Lousy effort to say the least.
Just shoot 3s you'll be at the wrong end of the scoreboard. And it's 90% of college gameplan and majority of the womens college mentality but orders come from the coach!

After rewatching these past UConn/DePaul games and as much as I like De Paul, I understand why Aneesah Morrow took advantage of the portal system and left for LSU. She works so hard that she’s deserves to be on a team that’s viable for a national championship.
Love the commitment and effort to get to the rim! Just about every player on this team has the skill to go low at any time. Back-cuts, driving to the rim, and lots of great outside-in assists. Hope to see a lot more of this going forward. They’re made for this style of play.
