Dude have you ever seen magicians or stage plays. they use wire like this all the time. To make things flat or to fly on stage. It’s really hard to see especially with older cameras there practically invisible as they are hard to see with modern cameras. But there also incredibly strong and dangerous. You can easily cut your self with it due to it being so thin and hard to break. It’s like a blade. Example: if you fall from a high building and and this exact wire happens to connect from the building you are on to another and you fall on this wire from at least 70+ feet in the air hitting the ground is the least of your worries cause if your body hits that wire with good enough force it’s splitting you in two horizontally and you’ll hit the ground in two pieces.
I dont know frame rates for pictures back then, lets say 25 frames a second, so just hire someone to go frame by frame and color over the cable so it matches the background for 5 seconds of footage. It'd be a monotonous job for someone to do, but wouldn't be difficult

Buster Keaton was born on a Vaudeville stage. He was a fabulous acrobat and was blessed to be physically strong . He created those classic gags and lived to film them for posterity ! Brilliant comedic timing on every frame ! It’s difficult to underestimate his talent because it was immense ! I don’t think I miss dialogue in his silent films ! He is so spectacular !
