I grew up in Northwest Illinois west of Rockford and this is the closest JFK came to where I live. I knew someone must have taken a film of this great speech, just two weeks and one day before the Kennedy-Nixon showdown. Thank you for posting it! This was the first speech of the day, Monday 10/24/60, before Kennedy blitzed the rest of Illinois before ending at O'Hare Inn at the edge of Chicago's O'Hare Airport.

He asked questions and had vision. He offered hope and action. He made suggestions and showed pride in his ideas.
He learnt from past leaders and adopted strategies based on potential success through assessment of current events and trends.
It's refreshing and mind-blowing that a leader encouraged this type of critical thinking. He wanted to empower people. To be alive at this time; you couldn't help but be inspired and enthused by him.

JFK would get the same treatment that Gabbard had. Ignored by the media and shoved to the side by status quo.

Kennedy would have hated both political parties in their current form. That's why he was great he was a very independent thinker.

His remarks appear to be “off the cuff” not read from a script. These talents were honed for 8 years traveling all 50 states before being elected President. I can recommend Ted Sorensen’s book “Counselor” for a deeper dive in understanding JFK’s ability to speak to the issues of the day.

jfk should bring up that while living in Georgetown in the 40s and 50s jfk would throw party's and Nixon was always a guest.

JFK was so convincing that Illinois residents voted blue non-stop since.

    • @dennyluster3089

Actually, IL residents voted red in the presidential elections of ‘68, ‘72, ‘76, ‘80, ‘84, and ‘88. For the other presidential elections, they did vote blue.

We’ve had no one close with his vision and eloquence since. I often wonder how we would have been different if he had two terms to accomplish his goals. We all know he wasn’t a great husband but he was a great leader the likes of which hasn’t been seen since.

a lot of his goals were accomplished by Lyndon Johnson - he talks at length here about a system of medical insurance for retirees, that system, Medicare, kicked off in 1965 under Johnson.
Now the Republican party speaks openly and with no regret about reversing all the social gains of the Kennedy/Johnson years. Sickening
