Passionate, powerful, and simply gorgeous is this prelude by the French composer Cécile Chaminade!❤ It should be on the repertoire of every organist. Chaminade was very successful in her own lifetime, and was the first woman composer to be awarded a Légion d’Honneur, the highest French order of merit.🎖 However, when musical taste changed towards her later life she didn’t really keep up, and like many a woman composer she was soon mostly forgotten about, alas. Today her music is luckily finding its way back into the concert halls and churches again.🤩 Her organ output is small, only this prelude and the collection La Nef Sacrée, from which I posted a piece about a month ago (check it out!), but really worth playing!

It is a joy to watch this man play the organ...he seems at complete peace at the console and he 'caresses' sounds out of the instrument's soul. He loves the beauty that the instrument produces and it, in turn, loves him back. Bravo!
