I saw Joel perform this act at Lake Tahoe last year and whether he fooled Penn and Teller or not, it's a really neat trick on television and at the live performance! Cool to find this clip of him here.
You may not have fooled them but I sure love this act...done so well that and with such character that I cannot help but to think people would feel very comfortable with you immediately.
That's the way it's done: You do a nice bit, you get some fame, and when Penn drops the hints you politely smile, thank them for the chance to perform, and graciously leave the stage.
Alyson is a perfect assistant/straight man (I know, woman) for the show. Her expressions are so good, emphasizing every part of the trick. And the trick is a good one, even though it didn't fool Penn&Teller. Many parts, following the tennis theme. Definitely entertaining!
Well, I've watched a lot of magicians including Siegfried and Roy making an elephant disappear four feet in front of me . You are very good, and entertaining. So, I'll be honest, I could see how you did it, but it was a great performance and most people won't. Good show.
Wait, they know how he vanished the ring, but they didn't say anything about how he got it in the ball or the ball in the can or.. Or did they (secretly)?
The ball got in through the bottom, because he asked her to check the top of the tube. Obviously, there is a hole in the tennis ball that allows him to put the ring in. Something was in that tennis ball and then the ring came out. So either he went to a tennis ball factory and asked them there to make something that sounds like a ring, and did slight of hand with that object and the ring, of he just stuffed the ring into the ball. The bag, handkerchief and racket cover for the slight of hand.
Didn't give a single detail on how he got the ring into the ball, or the ball into the sealed container...the ring disappearing wasn't all that interesting. How'd he do that?
Penn and Teller did mention the bag and the Eleven dollar bill principle, except he used the ring, so they did say it in code that they know how the trick is done.
They say the name of the trick, I think it was the Bill and the Lemon or something. They'd rather just say that to show they know what it is without giving away all the secrets. You can just look up the trick to see how it works
Hey man this is 100% random but I was just in San Diego a few weeks ago. Do you do yoga at the Japanese gardens in Balboa Park? Because I really feel like I saw you there!
It's all fairly basic stuff; in this case it's mostly about the presentation. Remember, the actual "prize" of Fool Us is getting invited on the show in the first place. :-)
"Nooo way, it couldn't be.. could it? I mean maybe, probably.. it is my job, right?"
Best line of the entire act.
The finger print part was hilarious.
the smelling part was too lol
"I just needed the fingerprints. Thanks" x'D
would've been funnier if the thing in the ball was actually another quarter XD
Exactly! This is what I actually thought!
And the ring was back on her fingers
Less dramatic tho
Bruh ur right
That's exactly what I thought he was going to do...one more laugh before he presented her with the ring
This guy was hilarious and performed a great trick, props to him
Alyson: "Do you do any other tricks with your balls?"
LOL
I thought a quarter was going to come out of the tennis ball. Thought he was going to say "oh thats not supposed to happen"
Allyson Hannigon is too lovely
It's like I'm watching Barney fools with Lily
"That wasn't part of the trick I just wanted your signature"
Everyone sees this coming every time.
I was not ready for this HIMYM reunion!
I can't believe he walked out on stage and didn't say "It's gonna be legen-wait for it!"
dary!

4:08 okay can we please talk about how great of a tennis ball hitting sound that was lol
Great Job Joel!!
What an absolutely gorgeous and lovable man. Such charisma!
If there was a quarter in the tennis ball I would have died laughing.
Anyone else binge watching for us with pen and teller?
Having the ring seem to go flying was a great touch
Wonderful energy! Loved the show
You may not have fooled them but I sure love this act...done so well that and with such character that I cannot help but to think people would feel very comfortable with you immediately.
This has been in my suggested for sooo long. Finally decided to watch it.
That's the way it's done: You do a nice bit, you get some fame, and when Penn drops the hints you politely smile, thank them for the chance to perform, and graciously leave the stage.
This guys one of my favorites
This trick was great! Good banter too.
I freaking love her dress!
Neil Patrick Harris is a magician.
I’m I the only man watching this for Alison Hannigan 👍
I disagree, the best costume on the show goes to Piff the Magic Dragon
I was going to comment this. Piff is the greatest act ever.
That's not a costume... He's a real dragon. He said so and everything.
I agree with your disagreement.
Where are Piff and Piffles!?
Yeah piff doesn't wear a costume
I keep waiting for Alyson Hannigan to say "This one time at band camp..."
Really enjoyed the trick bro. Well done
"I grew up in the hood, I grew up in La Jolla"
That's rich, that one really got me!
Alyson is a perfect assistant/straight man (I know, woman) for the show. Her expressions are so good, emphasizing every part of the trick.
And the trick is a good one, even though it didn't fool Penn&Teller. Many parts, following the tennis theme. Definitely entertaining!
I wish his response to Allison telling him he looked familiar was to say that some people think he looks legendary.
im glad barney picked up magic and is reunited with lily
My brother lives in sd ! And he is a magic man ! Dude you killed it in my books ! What a great predation
Good job, really impressive.
I really enjoyed your presentation! Congratulations
guy got the Neil Patrick vibe, I actually thought I'm watching an episode of How I Met Your Mother 😁
Well, I've watched a lot of magicians including Siegfried and Roy making an elephant disappear four feet in front of me
. You are very good, and entertaining. So, I'll be honest, I could see how you did it, but it was a great performance and most people won't. Good show.
“The one where Barney learns Magic”
He put the blue jacket back on just to relate to " how I met your mother " .
I was worried he screwed up the ring flight and Allison was kinda pissed about that till the end lol
LOL, It actually didn't occur that you look like NPH until she made that comment. Now I can't unsee it. Great performance. Very funny.
Love your magic. I saw your show in LA! Very entertaining!
Haha I love the Patriots Joke!!
Just saw this guy at the loft theater in tahoe, nv. Great job joel!
"hold it up a little lower..." LOL; i loved seeing the natural confusion after that.
incidentally... 1:43 that's weird
Hi Joel! You didn't fool me, either, but you were VERY good and funny as hell. Thank you for posting this.
Wow this is great! Awesome magic!
Wow, to have the balls to tell Alyson Hannigan to smell them on stage.
Is this an episode of fool us or how I met your mother? I'm having a hard time figuring out.
How I fooled your mother?
How I fooled your Mother using American pie
He came to my school to perform magic and I got a signed card from him! 😀
Very cool....thanks
Dat tennis ball vanish was pretty good though.
Now we need the actual Neil Patrick Harris on Fool Us
I can't believe I'm the only one to say it... but he actually looks very spiffy in those shorts.
Lily and Barney
It’s LEGEN ... wait for it ..
...
...
Missed most of the tricks cause spent all attention on Alyson. That's real magic! :)
Finally a GREAT hairdo for Allison. Perfect fit.
"The hood of La Jolla"
Hilarious. La Jolla is one of the richest areas in the US
Tennis is great! Recently moved to Los Angeles CA and would love the opportunity to see you live!
great trick! I was really worried about the ring hahaha, good thing you gave it to her at the end XD
i love alyson
great performance
Wait, they know how he vanished the ring, but they didn't say anything about how he got it in the ball or the ball in the can or.. Or did they (secretly)?
The bill in a lemon trick. Check that out. Also rewatch the way he handled the ball when he reached in the bag
"Having a big bag on stage lets you hide a lot of sins", heheh.
Love this guy hahahahah teally my type of humor
Haha Barney and lily! Awesome
Amazing. I have no idea how you did that!
Kids.. that one time your uncle Barney and your aunt Lily went crazy enough and had their own magic show.
watch to just to see Allison and a sweatband. Worth it kind of...
Was confused cuz Joel Ward is also a hockey player.
And me
Yes, also a soccer player in Europe.
Didn't give a single detail on how he got the ring into the ball, or the ball into the sealed container...the ring disappearing wasn't all that interesting. How'd he do that?
ball and container were props
Penn and Teller did mention the bag and the Eleven dollar bill principle, except he used the ring, so they did say it in code that they know how the trick is done.
"It's always useful to have a big bag on stage, it covers a lot of sins"
They say the name of the trick, I think it was the Bill and the Lemon or something. They'd rather just say that to show they know what it is without giving away all the secrets. You can just look up the trick to see how it works
he said it was a variation on the "dollar bill in the lemon" trick. i guess that was plenty. :)
The up a little lower part had me crying
Smell my b-
hahahahaha YOU SIR ARE GENIUS !!
This guy is pretty awesome
great presentation and trick man!
that was fantastic! well done!
"That'll be great."
I was fooled on this one. Great Magic.
Great fun guy & magic act

Well done I really like this vid anyway I hope you have a lot of success in you career
great job. . keep it up
Should seriously get a guest appearance in How i met your mother , after this ;)
Hey man this is 100% random but I was just in San Diego a few weeks ago. Do you do yoga at the Japanese gardens in Balboa Park? Because I really feel like I saw you there!
Awesome trick !!!
Oh wow he made the tennis ball hitting sound with his mouth
That was amazing and really funny
If you close your eyes he sounds like Neil Patrick Harris lol
this was so much fun to watch (even with awkwardness of the host)
Very funny and entertaining.
Growing up in the hood..... the Mean Streets of La Jolla 😂
Just a question: does every magician have a TH-cam channel?
Lol Alyson "tadaaaauhhh"
I was looking at Alyson, I didn't see a thing he did.
how ? we fold me and i saw this 10 times
The anchor is Teller's daughter. Right?
Very good.
Nope, slowed it down and still can't figure it out.
It's all fairly basic stuff; in this case it's mostly about the presentation. Remember, the actual "prize" of Fool Us is getting invited on the show in the first place. :-)
