    Hi Find. It was an absolute pleasure to listen to a man who really knows his craft. I have been wondering about purchasing one of these lathes for a while and your video has sold me on it. If it's good enough for you, then it'll be more than good enough for me! Many thanks.

    Hi Find. I have the same lathe, different importer. Slightly older than yours - dc motor. I rearranged the electronics layout and added a missing heatsink along with two over-run cooling fans - one for the motor, one for the electronics. I've added Clough42's electronic lead screw controller - really useful addition. I mounted the lathe on a Machine Mart strip down bench using a 50 x 50 mm steel framework to allow for bed adjustment. Also makes it much easier to drain the apron gearbox! I want to add a hand wheel mounted direct to the saddle drive shaft to give finer movement control. Not done that yet. Quite a capable machine, the large through hole in the spindle is really useful. I like the braking action and despite the variable speed control that slipping clutch arrangement is a very good idea when checking rotational clearances. Thanks for posting. BobUK.

    I have the same lathe as you from another importer. It is an HBM290 V-F. Like you, I have already made many changes, especially to the top slide and the motor drive. The DC motor has been replaced by 2Hp AC motor with VFD.
    I love your beautifully designed and working diesel models.

    We are manufacturing machines for the diagnostic sector and as a supplement to our Haas CNC we need to turn maybe one to two parts in stainless steel per week. Our parts do not need to be extremely accurate but surface finish has to be stellar. Parts are up to Ø100 x 300mm.
    Is this a suitable machine for making posts, shafts, mounts etc in high finish, or is the basic quality of the lathe just too low, so that we should go with a cheap CNC lathe in stead

    Ingenious clutch arrangement. Does this version of this lathe have a DC motor, or an inverter+AC motor?

    • @boksermotor
      @boksermotor  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The lathe has a DC motor, with a great torque at the low speed ratio.

    i also have that lathe i got it new in the uk for £1550 its called a fx250-fx750 different name though. 250mm swing and 750mm between centers and i have spent £2000 on tooling it up
    its my first lathe and i to have made a stack of mods on it.

    thank you so much for sharing wonderful ideas for improvements on that lathe .
    i have similar model weiss wbl 290 f . however i have hard time to remove the pin holding the original tool post . I want to replace it with quick change .
    it doesn't unscrew out and i don't want to use to much force to make damage .
    do i have to disassemble the compound slide ?
    Please advice .
    Thank You,
    Stan

    Hi, Have you also modified the end of the gear shafts to avoid using those nasty "C" clips. if so what exactly have you done and is it successful ?

    • @tarehjernetarehjerne4082
      @tarehjernetarehjerne4082 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have! But not avoiding them. I made some, 0.3mm thicker, they dont spin out of position. I also made new keyed shafts as the ones they came with are trash.
      Make the clips from alu or brass, not steel!
      Also how loud is your bench? Mine is awfully loud

    • @alswift7004
