Exactly. It was the best run of the entire marathon. They should be advertising and be more lenient towards what runners say. Its become more of a Lets Play with Glitches marathon rather than a "Let the runner have their personality" like it was in the beginning

They banned him because he said fuck 3 times during his run and kept making jokes about someone else after being asked to stop. Off the top of my head i can't remember the guys name, but it was by far the funniest and best run. All the others felt so plain

My favourite adgq moment was Cavemen saying "I would really prefer it if you would be quiet, it's just wonderful to watch :)
My favourite moment is any time the crowd gets involved and laughs, cheers, etc. It adds that ambient of camaraderie that was all love in gaming, and makes me curious to want to explore that game and the achievements associated with it further!
I got hyped as fuck when Toufool got a Diddy Kong Racing WR at SGDQ 2013.

My favorite moment from SGDQ 2016 had to be the Pepsiman run. The whole thing was full of laughs and was just a good time overall.
It was fun talking to people on the Discord server while watching the run.

My favorite part of GDQ's is how amazing the community is! I have been watching them since 2013 when I was first introduced to speedrunning and everyone seems legitimately nice. It's always a good time and I can't believe the amount of money that they raise for charity, it's awesome!

Great video, Sno! As someone that watched every single event of AGDQ this year, I really enjoyed the "Reverse Order" Super Metroid run and the Battleblock Theater run was just as insane and hilarious as last year.

Really love all of Cosmo Wright's (now Narcissi Wright) OoT and Wind Waker speedruns. Especially when they just casually say "that's a new world record" after their run! :D

my favorite run at agdq was the 5h pokemon red run with werster and trihex. It was so laid back and entertaining. loved every minute of it.
There was a guy last year with a rare disease that had to run games one handed, that was some next level motivation run.

My favorite moment is Snowfat's run of Hotline Miami. Him and his couch were non-stop sarcastic and it was so funny to watch.
Definitely Stepmania is my favorite. I had only just started learning to play it myself at the time it was showcased, so it blew my mind. Now that I've played it way too much and have gotten a lot better, I can actually feel the dedication put in to getting that good. It's extremely impressive on so many levels.
Just watched the Goof Troop and Stepmania runs - so great. Its kind of mesmerizing, watching their fingers fly over the controller and keyboard. Thanks so much for this video Sno, these runs will keep me held over until SGDQ comes around!

I think it was the Kingdom Hearts run from this year when they sang a bunch of Disney songs on stage while the runner did some boring things in game that was just so entertaining.

The Tetris Master Edition speedrun world record where he fucking nailed the invisible end credits was amazing.
Goof Troop guy definitely got 1-upped a bit this year by the Catherine run. That shit was amazing.
One of my favorite runs is an old run (agdq 2013, I think). I forget who the runner was, but it was a 106% run of Super Meat Boy. Team Meat even got in on the fun, chatting with the guys on the couch over Skype. It was hilarious and super impressive. The runner managed to do the incredibly difficult Warp Zone to unlock The Kid without dying. It was insane.
YEAH I remember that one, great run!
It makes me really quite warm and happy when you put Stepmania at the top of your list like that.
I'm not quite as good as the person in the video, but I'm decent enough. Really fun game.

My favorite GDQ moments are when a runner is able to pull off an extremely hard and trying trick that lets them get those precious few minutes off their time. For me, the one that exemplifies it is SGDQ 2015, Trihex's Yoshi's Island run and getting the 5-4 skip
YEAH and when the crowd just goes wild, its awesome
I was shocked and wowed by how quickly some of the Cave Story bosses can be defeated if you know how to position yourself just right.
That 4-way Super Metroid race where the first two players finished within a second of each other.

My favourites are Tasbot. I loved seeing twitch chat in pokemon, Mario bros in Mario world, and that time when they glitched the game somehow to make mew appear under the truck near the ss anne
Yeah the Pokemon glitch showcase did the Mew thing, I just love the craziness it can do
Crazy Game Nerd's playthrough of the F-Zero GX story mode on very hard. It doesn't look as flashy as Stepmania, but the skills CGN displays there are definitely superhuman.

romscout's blind SOTN run is one of the most impressive things I've ever seen. Right up there with the blind Mike Tyson runs.

Craziest run I've seen is easily the super punch out run blindfolded. I screamed a little when he got it! The most enjoyable runs for me are probably the TAS block, super metroid runs and half-life runs.

One of my favorite runners is PJ, because something hilarious is bound to happen when he runs his games. My personal favorite run of his is his all weapons run for Ghouls & Ghosts from SGDQ 2014, it's entertaining.

The absolute best part about the Stepmania showcase is how the guy _kept commentating the entire time_!
My favorites probably include anything involving pcull44444. Sure, his runs aren't the most technically impressive, but he's so just so damn funny. Highlights are probably his races with Mr_Weables in SGDQ 2015 and 2016. The constant banter is just too good.
Also, I forgot which GDQ it was, but there was one Symphony of the Night race where the runners just constantly bantered and ended the run singing along with the credits. It was too good.
Also also, any run with commentary from people involved in the making of the game is gold. I especially liked Stamper commentating on PJ's and MechaRichter's Battleblock Theater run.
Yeah all of those are pure gold! I love Pcull as well, so hilarious. The Bonesaw Jak and Daxter run SGDQ 2016 is just a hilarious disaster, you have to watch it (Pcull is on the couch)
That Super Metroid race at AGDQ 2014 was probably the best thing I've seen.
I love the Kingdom Hearts run and it's definetly my favorite moment, but i loved the Super Mario Sunshine of SGDQ 2013 with the DuDudu crue

Half Coordinteds Speedrun at SGDQ 16 was really impressive. Not just because of being one-handed, but also because of him having a disability forcing him to play one-handed. Also his speech at the end made me cry...

Search for the " the lost Vikings" run. Dude uses 2 controllers to control 3 characters, with one controller upside down. Amazing skill

I really enjoy the Bethesda runs, the runs themselves are pretty cool to watch, but it's mostly the banter from the runners I tune in to consume.
My favorite speedrun at GDQ was Majora's Mask 100% 4 players, the fact they proform so many glitches through out the game is mind blowing to me alone, but then there was the 4 players 1 controller Majora battle and all 4 of the player were blindfolded and they preformed the battle near perfectly blow my mind

Sk84uhlivin breaking the Infamous: Festival of Blood world record. To me that is speed running, a smaller runner playing a game he obviously loves and the genuine emotion he shows at the end is great!
My personal favorite was the entire tasbot block by far or Battletoads and remembering the agony of people I've watched sit through playing this really hard game and seeing it be crushed

My personal favorite moments are the 4way Super Metroid race from AGDQ 2014. That run was so perfectly commentated and had so much competitiveness that even someone like me who isn't even really a fan of Super Metroid can start the video up and be at the edge of my seat. If you haven't seen it seriously go do it now the ending is crazy.
My other favorite is iateyourpie's Paper Mario Speedrun from SGDQ 2013. He's a great runner to watch and I could watch the whole run over and over just to watch the crowd react to first try blue house skip.

Jonathan Gancitano i just find amazing the super metroid races, also, like every year there is one player more who gets killed, like this year where 3 players just died in a heartbreaking way, also, the ninja gaiden race, where the winning team was just ahead by les than a second, being something conpletely amazing
TasBlock is without a doubt the best part of all of the GDQs.

Co-op Trauma Center: New Blood was definitely a blast!! It provided an interesting take on a hugely precision based game and mesmerized me with how seamless the surgery looked!
Also the crowd synchronizing themselves to call out "Bad" every time they bandaged the patient made me laugh~
The way the guy played goof troop single player reminded me of how I play the adventures of cookie and cream (look it up, it's a fun game) it is so satisfying to beat a two player game as one player, though what he did was miles more impressive because of the two controllers and the fact he was speedrunning instead of playing casually

I work nights so I get to see a lot of speedruns most people don't watch live but I miss a lot of the big stuff since they play that when most people are able to watch. Anyway, super cool seeing this list and I'll be looking up these vids shortly.
As for my personal favorite, I don't really have a reason why it's my favorite but I really liked watching Digimon World from SGDQ 2015. I never played DW as a kid nor do I have any affiliation with these runners but for whatever reason, I was enthralled and watched the entire 1h:34m run live and loved every second of it. Super looking forward to next week!
I find the source runs to actually be incredible. I love every single Half Life and Portal run, and love that Half-Life: Blue Shift will be ran in 2017, but there's no other source games being played, and not even a source block. :(
I want to thank you for doing this. Besides turning me on to the Mario Maker and Stepmania runs (which I would never have looked into myself), just in general I want to thank you for highlighting what makes speedrunning interesting to watch, because I'm sure without you I would not have gotten into watching them.
Personally I have also *immensely* enjoyed the speedruns that involved the developers offering commentary, like the Shovel Knight and Battleblock Theater runs from the last few years.

One of my favorite happenings during a GDQ happened at AGDQ2017 when Miles had to bomb-jump outta bounds for ten minutes in Metroid Prime 2 at 02 health in Dark Aether. The clench was unimaginable.
TGM2 the absolute death mode completed by Qlex this year was fucking phenomenal
The stepmania stuff is pretty crazy, but I gotta say that a lot of it comes with memorization and musical coordination, much like the game DDR it was inspired from. I've seen someone do invisible notes with DDR, but that simply brings up the fact that stepmania is a game of memorization. At that level, the notes could go any way their heart desires and it wont matter, as the person playing them simply remembers exactly how it goes. The same way a master at the piano can play a masterpiece without sheet music.

Dram's kaizo mario run and usedpizza's last ninja run are two of my favs. also enjoyed joedamillio's Aladdin run and the multiplayer mario 64 incentive.

Excellent list! Sinister1 and Zallard1's blindfolded runs always choke me up a bit... They just put so much passion into their craft.
If you enjoyed the Goof Troop 1p2c, you absolutely must check out Ghoul02 playing Catherine 1p2c from this SGDQ 2016. Full of RNG, solutions made on the fly, and he still commented by himself for 90% of the run.

Stepmania is such an amazing game, as you start to get better you get such a burst of adrenaline! It was thanks to Staiain's AGDQ run and taro4012's stepfiles that I got interested in the game (speaking of which, check his stuff out. Some of the stepfiles Taro made are insane!)
Witwix's Boshy runs are always ridiculous. In the last GDQ he was in (I think it was SGDQ '15?), he made a bet that he (and some friends) would donate X dollars for every death he had. I think Witwix did $10/death, and ProfessorBroman did $20/death, and he ended up purposefully dying a lot at the end. Yay charity!

Such a great thing to play. Whether it be DDR, ITG, SM, StepF2, or PIU. All so much fun to play. You should check out some of them (preferably PIU cause its the best out of all of the dance games)
If we're talking pure skill you already mentioned the Tetris grandmasters, Sinister1 and Pokemon plays Twitch, so really you got my faves down there.
In terms of combining humour and incredible deep knowledge of a game, Andy's speedrun of Link to the Past without ever using a sword was pretty incredible and showed off some bizarre coding behind the game.

my favorite moments are always seeing a really cool looking run of a game i've never seen before or don't know much about. a while back, one of my friends learned a japanese famicom game called Gimmick! and it was one of the most impressive things i had ever seen. seeing it at the very next gdq was really cool

Town of ZZT at SGDQ14 is by far the highest amount skill shown at a GDQ, and I am utterly disappointed you did not mention it. Also, an honourable mention to George Forman's K.O. Boxing at SGDQ13
