Just sending you a 🤗 big hug. Saved this video. Really appreciate your taking the time to help us novices with notions. You're so sweet and such a joy to watch. God bless.
Hello Holly😀 Ohhhh yes hugs to you to! I’m a hugger and get so frustrated when someone doesn’t really hug🙄😝 Great video about the notions, I’m newer to quilting, researching tools, getting my own crafting space, for REAL space👏👏👏. It is a work in progress. I’ve sewn and crafted my whole life but recently jumped onto the quilting pool😳 and ohhhhhhh so excited! Well Thank You and others got the wealth of knowledge. 🥰❤️😀
I have essential tremor, worse in my left hand also. I didn't know what it was until a woman at a quilt guild meeting was behind me as we waited in the snack table line. She saw my paper plate fluttering and said, "Oh, you have essential tremor. I have that too." To make matters worse, I have some diminished touch sensitivity because I waited too long to have carpel tunnel surgery and the nerves were too damaged to fix completely. People, there's a lesson there! If you have it, TAKE HEED. I'd think I had ahold of a needle or pin but I didn't. I have the magic pins and the SlideLock in both sizes also. For a while, those SlideLocks were scarce as hens' teeth. I found one place that still had some after looking online for days and following every possible source. I think the first maker retired. I'm so glad someone is marketing them again.
I had an ocean, but I live in the desert now. I love your "notion" video. The first video of yours I watched was your previous notions video. I loved your personality then and I was hooked. You and I are easily amused by cute and quirky things. I love the stilettos. I've yet to get one. I have something I use that works for now. Thank you for your videos, Holly.
I really enjoyed this video. I like hearing/seeing what other people's experiences are like. My all-time favorite notion is my 12" add a quarter ruler. I've been working on a pineapple quilt and every round requires trimming the fabric and leaving 1/4". I would like to get some of the alphabet pins. Would sure help a lot. LOVE your earrings! Have an amazing day and hope you get a hug or two. xo
I have a set of long & sharp pins like yours, but mine are in the shape of arrows with the letters L, R, U, D, on them! (left, right, up, down). Right now, I just use them as regular pins; as I get more into quilting, I'm sure I'll use the directional aspect of them too! So far, I love them, and they were NOT expensive at all. As for the opposite side of your Martelli cutting mat, if I had one, I would take a highlighter pen and highlight either the whole inch numbers or the 1/2 inch numbers to set them apart from each other. I love that fidget box for those pins! I don't have anything to add yet, but I do think I'm going to enjoy my rotary blade sharpener when I get around to using it! Hey, you should also make a Sewing Studio Must-haves that are NOT sewing notions! Hugz back at ya, Holly!
Hugs, hugs, Hugs to Everyone. I love watching videos about notions because, though I don't like to admit it, I am a notions junkie. I say this as I have not gone back to any kind of sewing yet. My hands don't work as they used to either. My cat bit my hand, side to side, two years ago and it never went back to normal. I did get an infection from the bite. Anyway, I had spent entirely too much on notions, rulers especially. I was collecting things to get into quilting when I retired. When I did retire, I found that I had purchased 17 rotary cutters and now they are sitting doing nothing. Well, let me close by sending Light and Love to Everyone. ❤
I bought some also, and I couldn't believe how inexpensive they are. They come in colors, but I like the clear ones. They also have needle cases that come in nice wood and brass for dirt cheap. I don't know how they sell them for that little.
Holly great video. I didn’t think that odd see anything new but I loved the letter pins because they’d work better for me than the alpha bitties do. Sat here looking things up as you spoke. The magic pins, and the acorn product for getting flat seams were also of note. As far as notions, I have a pair of Tula pink tweezers that I love for when I can’t grab the thread tail after my machine cuts it. Silly but I also have a mini pop-up trash can from FQS that I can’t live without. I keep it on my cutting table for all the cutaway trash.
I'm gonna get some of that Acorn Easy Press stuff and try it out. It sounds great. I love the humble wonderclip. I use them to keep my epp hexies in groups though. I don't really use them for their intended purpose.
Hi Holly! I have all these notions with the exception of the block lock rulers. My favorite seam ripper is the Bernina and my mat is a Quilter's Select. I haven't tried a Martelli though. The Quilter's Select mat grips the fabric and works great with there rulers and rotary cutter. I must disagree with you on owning all the notions, being OCD I Must Own all the Notions of a specific company! 🤣🤣🤣 So I do have all the Quilter's Select and about 90% of the Creative Grids rulers...I talk to them and tell them, "You Rule!" I'm cracking myself up. Thanks for the video on notions!
Thank you for adding the links. I have been looking for the the abc/123 pins. I will try the pins with the larger heads. I can no longer pick up the regular pins due to arthritis. Hugs
I just started getting a couple sampler boxes 2 months ago. I'm looking forward to maybe getting some of these goodies in the future. Most of my notions are vintage that I inherited from my mom and grandmother. I love them, but wouldn't mind trying out some new things like the stiletto.
I use them most often when cutting out sections...like for bags....when you want to cut right up to a corner spot, but not go past it. Those points do that job super well.
I’m left handed, and when I bought my first Creative Grids left handed ruler I realized how easy rotary cutting can be. Thank you so much for this video. I like sharp thin pins and so I’ll be trying the magic pins and the number/ letter pins. Have a lovely day.
@@ksharpe8137 I had a whole new thought process when my 19 yr old Christian B son from a 2 parent middle class family came to me to confess he was addicted to Cocaine and couldn't kick it by himself. I truly believe when you listen to your toddler about the little things he will come to you about the big ones
Always nice to see what other quilters choose for there favorite notions. Just went into my sewing room and realized I had the large slidelock ruler that I bought from the company that was bought out. Not sure why I tucked that away, hording it I guess. Lol. Now I'm going to go through all these rulers and notions that I do not use thanks to you. Always good to look over the notions that really dont work for you. Thanks for sharing yours.
I really like that thread cutter. I have the tall purple gypsy quilter one but I feel like the round one would probably have been a better investment. Oh and the throwing stars are called shuriken.
Thank you for sharing. I bought the quilters slidelock because of another video you had. I bought it because I had a major issue with the slippage at the end. Absolute game changer. I will be buying the smaller version soon. I now also need to buy the pressing pen, and the larger scissors. I love your videos but you are bad for my budget lol. Big hugs to you and one for your Dandelion too.
I love the Aurifil boxes and bought 5 a few years ago when they offered them with a spool of white thread for the price of the thread only. My favorite snips are those Tula snips! The big loopy handles are awesome for me! I have 2 pair and often think about getting another pair just in case lol. I love the clover seam ripper too, I have had more expensive ones, but those white handled ones really stay sharp and are handy. My favorite pins are the 1 7/8” glass head silk pins by Dritz and I use them when paper piecing, but they aren’t as user friendly as the pins you have, Thanks Holly for sharing your favorite notions with us all, I know I appreciate it, I haven’t tried that acorn liquid stuff but am interested in getting some to try. Thanks again.
I’m hugging my pillow right now. 😂😂😂We have some of the same notions! I have 2 Martelli mats small one that I won on a Thur show and big big one I bought! They are greatest!! Thanks for sharing. 🤗🤗
Thank you Holly this was a great video! I really need those purple numbered/lettered pins but I bought that pressing pen ages ago but have never used it because I didn't know what to do with it! lol I just thought it sounded like a great idea so I bought it hahahaha NOW I know what I can do with it! Hugs to you from Australia 🦘🦘❤❤
Holly, have you used the Stripilogy ruler? Complete game changer for cutting. I have used it in every quilt I’ve made since I got it. Pricey but worth the cost.
Just sending you a 🤗 big hug. Saved this video. Really appreciate your taking the time to help us novices with notions. You're so sweet and such a joy to watch. God bless.
I love hugs! I'm in! A truly warm and friendly HUG right back at you Holly. Thank you.

Ly! Thanks for sharing. Have an awesome day!
Hmm…a few items to add to my wish list. I have most of these notions. Thanks for showing us the notions you use!
Thank you for the video. I have arthritis so it helps to learn about products I can use
I like the thread and bobbin storage.

I love most of these notions. Not sure I understand when to use slide lock. Acorn glue I use for binding! Game changer!!!

Holly I love your top and earrings! The color looks fabulous on you! 💞
Thank you for sharing. I love the Martelli mat you showed and that might be the next one I buy.
I have bought the project bags from Temu in many different sizes. I love them and they don’t cost much
I bought some also, and I couldn't believe how inexpensive they are. They come in colors, but I like the clear ones. They also have needle cases that come in nice wood and brass for dirt cheap. I don't know how they sell them for that little.
Thanks Holly. I needed a hug today.

Please share what you use pointy scissors for. I have a pair and never know when to use them! Looking for ideas.

@@DandelionStitches oh that’s a great tip! Thank you
I love that acorn pen too!
Lots of notions, & I do have most of them!!!😂😂😂

I'm a lefty too. 🤓
❤❤❤hugs! I'm going to have to try Susan's scissors. I have all of the same notions up to the pins.
My grandson is 8 today. He saved my son's life...his Daddy turned his life around because "I never want my son to know me as an addict"
That’s an awesome testimony! Thanks for sharing. ❤

I need some of those purple label pins! Perfect for foundation paper piecing!

I’m sure you told us but I couldn’t find the ruler with wooden handle. I would love to try it out because I slip a lot when cutting❤

I think it would have helped to have your cutting mat back on table to see the items because there was a glare from the wood desk
Agreed. That glare was super annoying.
