Eva was a little girl who was always sad, for she had only a few friends. Many things made her feel sad and she kept trying to smile and laugh wholeheartedly, but always failed. It began since her best friend, Tina, shifted to another city. Eva and Tina had been together since the second grade. They went to school together and were in the same class. Tina’s father had to leave his job for a better one, which required him to move to another city. Eva was very sad and Tina tried to comfort her with goodbye gifts. She also suggested her to move on. However, Eva was so depressed that she wasn’t even able to bid her friend a proper goodbye. Since that day, Eva started keeping to herself. She was sad and lonely. Everyone tried to cheer her up, but nothing worked. She missed her best friend everywhere... at school, at home, in the playground. Her other friends tried to get her to play with them or join them for homework but Eva always refused. Soon they stopped trying and Eva was all alone. At lunch, during homework, everywhere she was found to be alone. Eva’s mother was concerned for her. She’d try to talk to her every day, after she came back from school. But, Eva would just walk to her room and close the door. She would do her work, eat her food quietly in the room, and then, go to sleep. Her routine did not include anyone else, except for herself. She stayed by herself and refused to talk to anyone in the house. One day, when Eva’s elder brother returned from the navy, he suspected that Eva wasn’t so happy to see him. He found out about Tina leaving, and decided to fix the situation. He went to Eva’s room and found her crying near the window. He went and
asked her what was bothering her. Eva kept quiet for a while, but couldn’t suppress her feelings in front of her dear brother.
EVA: I feel sad all the time. I miss Tine, and I don’t have anyone else. No one talks to me anymore. I feel so lonely. What should I do?
BROTHER: I know what you can do. You can decide to be happy. It’s easy. Start this very moment. Just feel happy in
every situation. Tina has left and life has to go on. Make new friends. Go out with them, enjoy some good time. If you feel heavy, write about it, read good books. Go out in the morning to get some fresh air. Learn to get over things. Nobody has the power to make you feel sad.
EVA: I think you are right! You’re right. It was all up to me. I could have been happy all this time but I didn’t realize it. I won’t let anything affect my happiness any more.
Her brother felt happy and took her to her favourite pizza place and the two enjoyed a delicious pizza. Eva felt happy and laughed wholeheartedly.
