      This 100%, Jake. Even if you can’t find replacement carpeting right away maybe you could try use a bed liner spray on the floor.

    I look forward to seeing the headliner and carpets replaced, because those things look gnarly!
    Fun tip, seatbelts soaked with degreaser in a bucket then power washed come out looking **Brand New** colour wise. It's a cheap and fantastic method

    • @bryangilmer671
      @bryangilmer671 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      But does that compromise their strength?

    • @joannaatkins822
      @joannaatkins822 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@bryangilmer671 fortunately not, the plastics used to make high tensile strength materials like ratchet straps, safety ropes, and seatbelts aren't affected by simple degreasers like dish soap/simple green etc which is all you'd need for a seatbelt, even ones as gross looking as Jake's.
      Polyester thermoplastics are the main or sole plastic used in seatbelts, and you'd need an acid to affect the chemical structure, and at that point you'd have to be actively trying to destroy the things to be using something you'd need a respirator to be around

    Vinyl dye and fabric dye are two different things. You need both to achieve a decent end result that will last. To remove the headrests, a piece of flexible metal, similar to a slim Jim or the metal strapping on a pallet is all you need. Raise the headrest. Slip the metal down the back of the bar as far as it goes. Push down on the headrest, taking the metal with it. Hold the metal in place and pull the headrest out. In your junk yard travels, if you find the headrests from an 88/89 Crown Vic LX, Grand Marquis LS or Town Car, grab them. Keep them. Those headrests are the reason I have a healthy neck and back instead of being a mess or in a wheelchair.

    I am really liking the Ranger content. As I've said on past videos; I love your channel because you do it on cars that are actually attainable by the common man. Not these elitist prick's that have a collection of multiple $1,000,000 Lamborghini’s. Keep up the solid work. Jake something that I tried that worked is renting a carpet shampooer from a local grocery store mixing 10 to 1 water to fabric softener (make sure the fabric softener is unscented.) and then using that mixture to effectively shampoo the seats. My brother and I restored a 1986 Volvo wagon that originally had a light tan interior. Overtime son and fade due to constant traffic had turned it Gray with yellow patches. It looks like crap so we shampooed the seats with just a regular shampoo mix. Let them dry. Went through and used a type of RTE fabric dye that we brushed on. After it dried and cured 72 hours later we went through and used the fabric softener trick. It worked well and it did not take out any of the dye that we just put onto the seats. Just a little tip I thought I'd throw at you to try if you like.

    With the seats out, that would have been the perfect time to do something about that awful carpet. If you didn't want to replace the carpet, it still should have come out to be pressure washed, and dyed.

  • @Danman1972
    @Danman1972 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    dude... while you had the seats out you were like 2 steps away from taking that nasty carpet out. Pressure wash it, hit it with dawn and a drill brush, pressure wash it, extract the water with the wet/dry vacuum, and let it dry in the garage. It will do a world of good. While its out. Clean all the plastics and sills of the truck. I did this with my 08 GMC. Had a water leak and had to let the whole truck dry out. I blew apart the interior... dried out the Jute in the bed of the truck along with the carpet on a nice sunny day. Cleaned everything. Interior looked new when I reinstalled it after fixing the leak.

  • @martyjones7225
    @martyjones7225 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    A stiff brush should soften the fabric portion of the seats. I changed the color of a set of Tbird seats to use as computer chairs to black and 12 years later they are still soft. SN95 (94-04) seats will also bolt to the Ranger seat tracks as the metal frame in the seats are the same as the Fox body.

    Sorry Jake, I really like your channel and have subscribed and watched since Hoovie suggested we watch you and Elliot - but you really should throw out those seats, carpet, headliner, dash and visors. Start from scratch with better items. You and the truck deserve it. Also, the original seats offer some back of head protection. The Mustang buckets look like they would let the back of your head smash the rear window glass. Stay safe man.

  • @mhans79
    @mhans79 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    You can turn the 60/40 seats into bucket seats as well. I did it in a 98 ranger I had years ago. Take out the driver seat, peel back the upholsterry and cut the foam off the little center seat. Cut off the metal from the little center seat so you are left with a bucket seat on the driver side. Trim the fabric so you can make the driver side seat look like it should when the fabric is resecured to the seat. Add a shorty center console from an older explorer and your done. Bucket seats with a center console that provides an armrest, storage and 2 more cup holders.

    I've been fixing up a cheap 94 Toyota Pickup and first thing I did was rip out the interior. See if there's a vinyl floor kit instead of the carpet, I love vinyl floors in my trucks. Also I'm impressed with how those seats fit, I hit my head and scrunch up my legs in the regular cab Toyota and I'm only 6' anyone bigger than me would have to stick their head out the window. It reminds me why everyone ended up going with extended cabs and larger as time went on.

    I swapped mine to Explorer seats. Since I don't plan on replacing the center console, I put the driver's side seat on the passenger side. Passenger seats are generally in better shape. With no console you’ll constantly be reaching between and under the seats to retrieve items and touching nastiness. To each his own, but I would have just rolled with the vinyl dyed gray and the fabric the gray muted maroon. Custom 2-tone seats. They do look comfortable
