    I found this video to find out about the R10 video capabilities, but the vast majority of it seemed to be explaining how much better the R7 is, and vaguely mentioned the R10 in passing, maybe the title of the video should be changed to 'R10 vs R7 for video'? to be honest, as an informative video, this one was useless!

    As a Canon R6 owner I love the R10 for a nice affordable backup solution. Costs less than a zoom lens and provides great stills and 4k video in a pinch while the R6 cools down. Plus as a more compact camera its easier to tether to my side while shooting with the main R6. The R10 is also a great locked down camera for a two camera shoot. Should also be a great gimbal camera as well due to its light weight and more compact size. Easier to get balanced on a gimbal vs the R6.
    I will add I am a big fan of the HDR PQ mode on the R6 so for me the HDR PQ 10bit as the only 10bit mode on the R10 works very well. I think more people should embrace the HDR PQ mode vs log. Its a nice punchy out of camera accurate look with rec2020 color and all the extra dynamic range. No messing around with log or having more noise in the shadows. Super clean high dynamic range video with accurate Canon colors. I edit with FCP and its HDR tools make converting to rec709 very easy. These days I keep as much as I can as HDR since I own two HDR TVs, a iPad XDR and a 14" MBP XDR.

    When I was in college, I moved from Texas to Colorado to live in the mountains. One of my favorite hobbies was to mountain bike. As I was new to the hobby I bought a slightly above grade entry level mountain bike. I would frequently go riding with a friend of mine who was a mountain biker for YEARs. He had very good gear. I always thought that if I had used his bike I would be able to ride about as good or almost as good as him. What I didn't realize was I didn't have the lungs or the legs or the technique yet for riding.
    This is the same as the r10. It is a great entry level camera. It will be great as a learning tool for entry level (even professional - meaning people who want to make money off their camera) It actually SHOULD be used as THE tool for new people to mirrorless, new people to video, new people to searching through menus etc. When you advance to a more complex piece of equipment before you are ready, you don't have the background on it and you think your equipment is the limiting factor.
    So yes the r10 does have a place. A very important place. The beginner. Can still be pro.
    I think it will be the standard for entry level mirrorless. I think canon will probably make inexpensive rebel-like offspring using the r10's body since it is different than the r7 /r5 / r6 / r / rp.

      Hi, I think R10 vs R7 benefit the fixed sensor for inside /outside car videos? You have mentioned this also in case of R5 vs R5C, picture wont shake, its moving along with car, I dont why they couldn't make ibis which could be turned off in a way that the sensor is really fixed and dont move around in a car. So I would be interested due to this R10 , question is overheat, since in a car could be hot, smaller body less heat distribution? maybe but at R10 only 6k downsampling vs R7 7k downsampling, an overheat comparison would be highly appreciated, thanks for You great videos

      mrbeast uses canon g7x. leave these tech nerds to worry about specs. the r10 is way more than any youtuber would need. yes, any youtuber.

      I completely agree, as a beginner camera it is great. But the R7 would be better if they can afford it.
      I love the R10, don't get me wrong. Like I said in this video i'm even considering buying one myself for my home photography camera.

    If you want higher quality 4k 60 the r10 crops less (1.6 vs 1.8) and it is about 4/10 pound lighter too. If you use it with the 800 f11 lenses having ibis isn't much of a benefit. You save 500 dollars while still having the same autofocus and similar enough image quality (reviewers say 24 vs 32 megapixels isn't as big of a difference as one might think).

    I work with the R7 and the the m6 mark ii, last one serves as my B-Cam. As the m6 does have a record limit and does overheat when shooting for longer time in 4K I am thinking about getting an R10. I could still use the spare batteries, can use the lenses I already have for my R7 and as a small carry on option it as well would be ok.
    I do hope that canon is going to release more rfs Glas though, a 11-22 with a decent f stop would be great. Still, I think for this scenario it would be nice to have an r10

    Hi Carl, well, maybe useful as an expendable crash camera - but otherwise the small battery would do it in for me. Have to use it with a separate audio recorder and sync unit I guess if audio required (Bang!) and if one does not have them 7 is the better bet as you suggest.

    It's all about the weight. I can put an r10 and 18-150 into a belroy slingbag and I won't even know it's there. But Canon dropped the ball on build quality. The grip is of such thin plastic that it flexes slightly when you grip it. The inside of the grip touches the edge of the battery door (which sits pretty loose), thereby making clicking sound. It drove me bonkers and I returned it for that reason alone. I could have stuck a bit of masking tape over it, but it cost 1260 euros!!!

  • @Skux720
    @Skux720 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    You're right, the R10's value just isn't there when you compare it against the R7. I don't really see why the R10 exists; people who are serious about video will want C-Log and 4k60 uncropped, and people who just want good video straight out of the camera will be better off with an M6 Mark II which is much cheaper especially when you consider additional lenses.

    • @truthseeker6804
      @truthseeker6804 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      m6 mark 2 is "cheaper" by about 70 bucks, whilst the r7 is more expensive by about 500 bucks. so youre comparisons is totally off. this is in everyway a better video camera than the m6 mark 2.

    What camera did you shoot this with? Just curious. Regarding the R7 or R10 - the lack of built in ND filters is a big turnoff for me. I know one can be added, and perhaps that’s fine for some use cases. However over the course of a day different ND filters will be needed - making the external ND’s an expense most people don’t account for

    • @EmeraldAudiovisual

      @@EmeraldAudiovisual my Canon XC10’s have built in ND filters. Granted they are video
      Cameras first and photo second, but has the same physical format as a DSLR or Mirrorless and priced well below $2k.

    • @EmeraldAudiovisual
      @EmeraldAudiovisual 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@hibbasc1 That's a camcorder, not a camera (DSLR/mirrorless). You can't exchange the lens, you can't make stills in RAW. It's not even comparable.
      You may be able to make JPEG snapshots, yes. It has a 1" CMOS sensor with a max of 12 mpix. How was that a valid example in comparison a fully fledged mirrorless camera body, that has a wider ISO range, can record twice the frame rate video at 4k, can take stills in RAW and has twice the megapixel on the sensor and costs half the money ?

    • @hibbasc1
      @hibbasc1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@EmeraldAudiovisual what I was trying to say is the body sizes of the XC10 and R7 are pretty close in size and I would like to see ND filters trickle down into cameras in this price range especially when they are marketed towards photography AND video.

    • @EmeraldAudiovisual
      @EmeraldAudiovisual 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@hibbasc1 They are two entirely different products with two entirely customer bases. You comparing them is like talking about two different planets.
      Sorry, but your expectations don't match what you're expecting to pay. The feature set of the R7 and R10 is literally in an entirely different league and if all you can complain about is the lack of internal NDs then you've not done your homework.
