How To Grab a Lobster - Check the Technique

Unlike many places in the world, if you want to catch spiny lobsters in California you have to grab them with your hands only. You are not allowed to use any equipment like nets, tickle sticks, snares, or even your speargun. Its a tricky thing to do and it takes time to understand the best way to go about it. In this video we break down the anatomy of a spiny lobster and the different methods for grabbing them.

In NSW Australia amatures are only allowed to catch crays with their hands or with a trap. No torches, hooks. snares, spears, hookers or aqualungs allowed. The limit is two per person per day. The other states have different rules.

I always just grab the antenna as close to the body as possible and then grab the body with the other hand.
