Matt’s backyard build not only got me back into mountain biking, it inspired me to lose a lot of weight. I used to mountain bike a lot back in the mid-90s but by early 2000, life got in the way. Then like so many others, I stumbled across Matt’s backyard build around Ep3 and quickly become hooked. End of May I got my old mountain bike tuned up and planned to go riding only to realize that at over 300lbs, I was too heavy for my bike. So instead or riding, I started walking. 10k steps a day and no more snacking at night. Told myself if I lost 50lbs I could get a good mountain bike and if I lost 75lbs, I could get whatever I wanted. I lost over 100lbs within 1 year and love riding again.
Same story here with not riding since early 2000s until watching matts backyard build series. Now out digging and riding every week and progressing further than ever before.
I’ve been away from all forms of MTB for almost 20 years & it’s Matt’s content that has brought back my interest to DH, hardline, slope style and all the other antics from Bernard etc.
Redbull need to help him put on a mini slopestyle rampage in the UK with super unusual features and judging based on innovative moves rather than perfect runs.
Easily one of my favorite bike riders ever. Seems like such a genuinely great person too. .... I also have the great honor to be one of the people who got to name two of the features in his "Playground" jump line 🙏
Probably the best interview I've seen for a long time. Matt Jones is such a great bloke, no way should you ever be embarrassed by your success, you put the work in so you truly deserve it!! Legend ❤
How nice all these comments are. The mountain bike community is the best. The two nicest communities of people I've ever come across is the Metal scene and mountain bikers. You wouldn't expect it from either. You guys rock. 🎉. Subscribed.
matts videos brought the next step for me. ive been digging like 5 years ago illegal on existing trails and stoped after it got ruined so often. but i started again after the backyard series and now work in a bikepark as a shaper, trainer and bike mechanic living a cool dream matt broght up to me een reality does look a little diffrent then most people think of the job. only sad part is I get less to riding or racing but the building of dh tracks or jujps and then test riding it gives a lot of experience an opportunitys.
Takeaway inspiration - “overcoming the mental challenge of thinking you can’t do it, amazing. Everyone should put themselves through that as many times in their life as they can. There’s no better feeling than doing something you felt like is impossible, it’s brilliant” 🙌🏻
Matt got me into biking, i saw one of his youtube videos and decided to start riding my local trails, he pointed me in the right direction with tutorials too.
Great interview. Made me think though that if your entire livelyhood and career, all the sponsorships, projects etc orbit around youtube - how do you risk manage that in case you can’t do youtube any more?
Brilliant interview! Can’t wait to see what times Rob and Elliot get to put on the barn door and also what forfeit the loser of the Hardline Jones head to head has to do 😂 Keep up the awesome work 🤘❤️🌈🕊️🌍
It maybe crass to talk about money but I for one want to know. It doesn’t matter to me if it’s a tenner or ten million, but I’m interested to know. I remember trying to find out and doing some rough calculations based on Sam pilgrims view count, but I think it was inconclusive and could have been anything from £50k a year to £50k a video if one went mental. 100k a year on average seem about right for the likes of Matt and Sam?
I loved the back yard bills during lockdown kept me going and it was brilliant through difficult times. Sadly I dont follow matt in any aspect and lost respect with the way it went with his ex.....................
I started listening to this episode on iTunes and the 11 minute BSing intro was unbearable. I came here to see where the content actually started. So glad they cut the intro out of this
He’s not really one of the best slopestyle riders in the world, or even in the UK. He’s not a slopestyle rider at all anymore. He hasn’t done anything even close to his previous level for YEARS, let alone anywhere near today’s level. Have you actually seen the tricks he can land today? Why on earth Rob keeps calling him one of the best? He doesn’t even deserve the Red Bull helmet anymore 😂 Not to mention what a horrible person he is 😒
He was one of the best, and that’s what Rob is referring to. And he deserves the red bull helmet because red bull sponser people who can get their brand advertised, and that’s what Matt does as he is one of the most well known mountain bikers in the world.
He does admit this in the interview - he knows we wouldn't podium in Slopestyle if/when he goes back, but would likely qualify. His personal life is a little rocky, but so are many people's?

The weight loss goals is so genius bro congrats

That’s what it’s all about bro! Getting after it and enjoying life. Congrats to you good sir

Well done mate that’s inspiring :)
Matt jones is one of the nicest guys out there. He’s one of the reason why I love the biking community. Biking is the best

Over the past couple years Matt Jones has become my favorite ride , and person . sorry gee and brendog
Top bloke! An inspiration to all. 💯🚴
Matt Jones is honestly one of the nicest professional athletes I’ve ever met. I met him during Crankworx in Whistler when I was working

This episode is awesome. Great combo of personalities.
Why so few views this is a great interview...
what an epic episode!!!!
Really enjoyed watching and listening to this! - Cal
Matt Jones is the whole package!❤
Happy to see Rob give Matt his dues for what he did at Hardline Tasmania. That was so impressive

This is dopamine.

That was an awesome insight into the life of an auntripanur. Thanks so much.
Matt Jones to Rampage has to happen!
Thanks for this. It was wonderful ❤
Awesome wholesome video lads. Love ya’all even more 👍
What was the name of that red bull series that was mentioned in this episode? I forgot and can’t find it..
Design and conquer on Red Bull TV
showed his riding skills are from another world when he rode down that defy downhill line on a hardtail.
Brilliant podcast
Very good interview! 3 legends ❤❤❤
Outstanding film chaps
Is this on Apple Podcasts?
Had no idea rob was speaking regularly on a podcast. Cant believe Ive been missing out!
Legend.
Is robs shirt inside out? lol
I've honestly thought one of the reasons Matt has built what he has with the people he has, was to go to rampage, he's more than capable of winning it
Great interview. Made me think though that if your entire livelyhood and career, all the sponsorships, projects etc orbit around youtube - how do you risk manage that in case you can’t do youtube any more?
awesome 🎉🎉🎉🎉

If, like Matt said, the courses are built so that you can get from top to bottom without peddling, I'm surprised Warner didnt get into free ride.
Come on you losers!!! 😂 rob warners such a legend , Matt’s great too 👌👍👍
4 step kids? Matt are you talking about Ben, Jamie, and I dunno the other 2?
sick MJ is the man
Googles"can peacocks fly" 😂 peacocks only fly 2% of their lifetime and can't fly for long and fly very poorly. Great interview 👍🏻
Has Rob got a purple beard? Haha, only joking.
All hail the egg!

i think how it use to be was definitely better!
Thought by 2013 there were bigger features in the UK to practice on! Clearly not! 😂
oosh i really hope the downhill game is good no one has every really captured it correctly in a game all ways to over the top and lacking replay value
I loved the back yard bills during lockdown kept me going and it was brilliant through difficult times. Sadly I dont follow matt in any aspect and lost respect with the way it went with his ex.....................

Come on mate! Are you such a snowflake that you actually had to post this?
is matt a stoner?
Very much doubt it. He’s too productive

Correct. He's just a salesman now, but a good one.

Wow, who pissed in your Cheerios when you wrote this?
