Steve, OUTSTANDING video series! I’ve been a Spektrum/Futaba guy for years (first Futaba was a “State of the art” 4 channel back in the early 80’s!). I just recently bought the TX16S MKII 4-1 with both a 915MHz and 2.4GHz Express LRS modules. I was so happy to find your video series! This radio has SO many possibilities and you break it down simply and concisely. I tried doing a custom “Hello” sound file… somewhere along the way I screwed up though… it was a Sinatra “Fly Me to the Moon” clip I edited. Once in the transmitter, it plays but it sounds like an old reel to reel playing with almost dead batteries! Remember the scene in the movie Apollo 13 when (I think it was Swigert’s) tape player batteries were almost dead??!
Excellent series of informative videos. Clearly explained. Simple to understand. Built on piece by piece. Structured with a view to the big picture. I can't wait to get my TX16s and put all this stuff into practice. It looks like it and OpenTx is a powerful piece of kit.
An important note to users: To prevent your radio from taking a long time to start up after adding sounds to switches do this. Sounds added to switches initial start up positions will cause them all to be played every time the radio is powered up and will increase the time it takes before the radio is ready to be operated, so edit all switches initial position special function entry as follows to prevent this. On each switch initial position function setup, move the cursor to the far right option that selects how many times the track plays (1X) and click it so it can be modified. then scroll left to see the (!1X) option and select it. This option prevents tracks from being played at start up but still play whenever switch is changed to it afterwards. Do this to all switches initial position they are in at start up and have a sound track assigned to them. hope this helps everyone because the radio will take a lot longer to boot up when there are a lot of tracks to be played.
I would like to know how to do the text to sound and get them to work on the TX16S. I have done the text to voice and put it non the radio but it will not play it play on the computer.

@@theartofflying3108 See bottom of the radio, pull the rubber thing away, see center slot. There is a micro SD card in there from the factory. Best thing to do is replace it with a better quality, larger capacity card. Seems like the factory ones are nothing but problems. Just copy contents from the factory to your hard drive and then from your hard drive to your new SD card.

Great video. But how do you make the sounds yourself? When I try this, no sound is played although the radio finds the files. Does it has to have a special format or something?
It’s great content and helps us learn how to use some special functions etc… but… just because the tx switch has changed state doesn’t mean that the function has necessarily changed, like arming for example. If you just set the sound off the switch it will voice prompt that it’s armed, but if there are prearm conditions not met it will still be disarmed. So driving voice off switch pos is not really correct. it’s far better if the voice prompt is driven from the telemetry data where it’s actually the fc arm status that’s driving the voice prompt, that’s where I want to add some custom voice prompts!!!!
