All good at this point. I sent the electronics back and the repair shop admitted the reverse polarity oversight. This is after a week of exchanging emails where he kept telling me it was impossile to have reverse declination unless it was software related or something I was doing incorrectly.

Hi: I have a Classic LX200 f/10 from 2001. Recently repaired Dec Runaway. Was returned from a repair shop and now I have N/S reversed in Dec motor. Since I do astrophotography, my GOTO and SLEWS are reversed when planetarium software tries to communicate with LX200. Your opinion for the cause of this would be appreciated. Thank you.

Seems that they inverted the motor polarity... This will happen if they have wrongly remade the encoder cable assembly. I can help, just private message me with a picture of your dec motor assembly.

Do you work on these classics anymore? I just bought one and I think it needs to be gone through. The seller had never used it before and plugged it in for the first time just before I arrived from a long drive and he said it beeped then died. I’m afraid to touch it honestly.

Sounds like one of the 5 notorious LX200 capacitors shorted. You'll need to find out which one. There is a fuse which blows (yours is no doubt blown), so you'll have to buy a few 1.5 amp slo-blow fuses for testing and progressively plug in connectors until you find out which one died. Check out cloudynights.com for more info there.

I have just replaced the motor encoder boards with your boards, but found calibration (also with your board) a little frustrating. Achieving the correct settings by adjusting the pots was not as smooth a process as the video, fine adjustments seemed to caused rapid fluctuations in led colours. Nevertheless both drives seem to operate as commanded on the bench.

I've seen that as well on some motor assemblies. I believe there is a wide variation in the IR components as well as encoder mask alignment, across all of the LX200s sold over the years. I've had success with re-aligning the masks but I do not recommend doing that, especially if drives are operating OK. Also there seems to be more noise in one direction than the other, for instance try both north and south movement on the DEC drive; there is a noticeable difference on our LX200 here.
