- A mini guide to being a good support in this wild new patch we have. There are some new concepts that are a bit different from old supporting mindsets, so old tricks won't work as well as they used to. These are my ideas/learnings of the current patch, hope they work for you!

As a pos 4-5 im liking the new patch. Just wish cores would be more willing to kill tormentors. As they dont get the shard they dont seem to be bothered

I often win the laning phase as Disruptor position 5. At the 4 minute mark, I pull the creep wave then use Twin Gate to move to the offlane and assist in ganking with Glimpse. Afterwards, I grab the enemy Wisdom Rune and return to the safe lane to get the Lotus Orb and Wisdom Rune, while also babysitting my core. I repeat this process at the 11 minute mark

@@Delacrow_l_Chawngthu idk man im in immortal 4.3k and my carry is dying when i leave him for rune snatch or ganking offlane or even helping mid. Idk why but its always the issue with my safelane carry. It also happen when im pos 4 supp offlane. My safelane is always a pepeg.

My new favorite thing is brewmaster support with maxing W and going E next. Buy blood grenades, tranq boots and go vessel + shard. :D

I've been mostly Playing either carry or mid for most of my dota play time. Recently had to get some role ques and I decided to learn some support and actually be useful. Changed my view on everything, imo pos 4 and 5 are the single most important players in the game. If they are bad the game is Lost 80% of the time unless mid pops off and enemy 4/5 don't shut him down with ganks. When I play carry these days I focus on being easy to support, so that my pos 5 has one thing off his mind. I find myself having more fun in the game where my 5 doesn't constantly have to put out the fires on our lane. Obviously if a 5 is dogpoop then we are screwed, but I've climbed 300mmr since I discovery the other side of the coin and changed my playstyle.

Unfortunately, I feel like a lot of the strategy of this patch is "win lane, then snowball." I'd love some tips on how to play from behind because it feels like a lot of my games just collapse before the 15 minute mark because we lost the side lanes and cores went to AFK farm jungle letting enemy team take all of the objectives. I've been trying pivoting to some quicker, less greedy builds like Veil of Discord or Pavise or Glimmer to try to stem to bleeding-but there's really only so much you can do if your team is all flaming/feeding.
While yes this patch made snowballing more it did also added many new camps which are extremely far from everything else so what u can do is farming as away as possible from the enemy team give them as less kills as possible and try to gank any solo hero with 3+ ppl
Vision is very important to do that but not important enough to die for it
Having heros with inate scouting ability is very useful
OR u can get the shovel and send the little koblet around
In addition with the extra farming space and tps you do want a hero that can move around quickly more than heros that stay with their core
And the ability to hit the extra farm lying around that no body is taking
Letting the opponent take the lane and try to throw all your cards into another sounds better rn but never over extend your stay in that lane leave towards farm asap
Try sending someone to cut lanes when you're behind. It pulls the enemy into their own territory to deal with you, slowing their push for objectives. Bonus points if your NP is cutting deep waves and your entire team is smoked in the bushes lying in wait for the enemy response.
You can rubberband really hard from a loosing game with the economy changes
Its not your fault usually,
its cause people are.... well, they are. And they see team behind with 3 kills by 10 min and stop playing.
There is no "playing from behind" or anything like it for vast majority of dota playerbase, we dont get to play dota.
If you pick tusk then you can snowball whenever you want :)

Ask for a pull when you decide to rotate through the gate. This simple coordination comm, will make sure you get kills when you get to the other sidelane
Also I've been buying a smoke early game to do this rotation, as people are warding the gates, you dont have to worry about being seen when you go for a play
This. Enemy duo will 90% of times go into the pulled camp to contest creeps. Easy kill.

This couldn’t have came at a better time because I need role queues and don’t wanna gimp my team ^^
Win lane, snowball, then deep ward to prevent farming in new side camps. You can still lock them in hg for the most part. If they find a way to farm somewhere besides that then farming isn't as good as it was and you're winning all the fights, so you're making all the gold anyway.
I try to be everywhere as a support and wind up being nowhere and super underleveled often.

You can do roshan min 16 and up with tombstone 3 and any roshan-killing hero
Can you try to make a video and tell us which support hero is better now for pos 4 n 5, i saw the clinkz p5 video, but wish you can create a rank tier based from your opinion. You can also say something like mk pos 4 n 5 is very good because he can jump trees n get the runes n lotus easily now on this patch(this is jus based form my pov) and i also think that you forgot mention about the "watchers" which is also a good tower for sup hero to capture it. Hope you can take a look on my opinion.
I'm going back after years when I saw this update. The first feeling I had as support is:

The portals looks like a great tool to gank lanes. Time it right with the creeps reaching the front line and TP back after the gank looks good, but I'm still removing all the rust and learning the heroes changes.

I don't know if i like this new "GLICKO" system. Lately I've been meeting far more players who can farm refresher-aghs in less than 20 mins. My previous rank was divine 3, and now I'm calibrating with legends who play like immortals.
At least in the previous system, even if there are Smurfs, it was 50/50 chance whether they are on my team or the enemy. With this new glicko system, if i play well one game, I play against really good enemy players for the next couple of games while my teammates are bang average at best. As a support player, it's really hard to do anything about it when my carry is 2 items behind
I just thought about this, if a game of Dota 2 strategy can be simplified like you said (The 20-21 minutes and get 2 roshes) can easily win the game, why sometimes its so hard ? Even if you manage to execute it with your team ?
ranked up from archon 2 to ancient 2. What i learned is zoning a key hero is better than trading them in clashes. especially if you are a support. Glimmer, Forcestaff, Ghost. Just waste their time and you win games
what mmr do you have right now?
My tomes were always quick bought by the mid or safe lane carry

Dragging waves around the lotus pool is also a situational strat I've found. The situation is confusing your core.
I've won 12 calibration games in a row playing hard support treant and soft support omni. Calibration feels strange this time around. I'm at 16% calibration.
Tree is still strong, omni is outright cheese at this point. Omni can just level hammer and easily pull ahead. It's stupid.
Its % confidence not calibration. I think it means when you win a lot the system is not confidence you are in that rank and maybe should be put higher. Maybe if its balanced w/l, % will increased a lot. Idk.
The grenades seem cool, I keep forgetting I have them.
Press it as a fuck you button. Or if your hero has no cc, gaining a slow is an insane advantage
So what do you think about IO support snatching all enemy wisdom runes?
Just realized relocate is visible on enemy minimap... So furion is a safer bet I guess. Sadge
Jakiro + Blood Grenade helped to me push from Archon to Legend. The harass game is just so good with that, unless your enemy has a dispel. Curse them for a thousand years for having a dispel. I love getting assist now grants so much gold, 2 kills or just even assists in the lane and my Arcane Boots is already finished and I just don't know how and why do i get so much gold.
STOP LAST HITTING THE CREEPS AS A SUPPORT! :p
You know what will make people start to care about doing tormentors? remove agha's shard from the shop so people have to do the tormentor or make it only purchasable after 60 minutes.
Cores rarely get the shard so they dont seem to care.
@@mainwaringjohn and even if they want shard, they farm creeps for gold to buy it instead, so nobody is doing tormentors because support can't do it alone and core can just buy shard in the shop
It's the same as in every other patch. Steal last hits, kills, and runes so you can rush your Dagon
do you understand the new ranking system? i got downranked form legen to crusader in like 10 games,while winning 5. My Herald friend who started last year is crusader now too. And my otherfriends only gain 1% confidence each game....
i feel ya mate. From Archon 4, won my first 4 games, got to queue with Legends, then stupid cores got be playing to crusaders. Now Im crusader 5 xD some cores are just clueless midgame, going farming instead of pushing

I feel in this patch you get A LOT of exp, usually when I play support I`m always on par in level with my cores
Only thing I can remember is an exp rune at 7 min hahah
They are every 7 minutes. 7, 14, 21, 28 etc
remember to try to steal it as 5
Is it worth dying for wisdom rune? My instincts say yes but also I'm lazy and I don't want to do the math.
Great question! If you are level 4, it's about break even in terms of XP if you die for the first Wisdom rune, but you'd also be giving up gold and map presence so I'd probably not plan for dying. After that, it's generally not going to be worth dying for it
WD feels great, blood grenade with maledict is great, OP shard he sometimes gets for free and it helps him avoid feeding gold, can kill jungle camps while moving around, etc.
Pavise is such an insane item. I think if you are a pos5 it's almost a must every game. I would not be surprised if it gets super nerfed next patch
it does feel strong in my games as i see the enemy cores taking right clickers a lot of the time
I still don't really understand the wisdom runes in the early game. Isn't it a huge time commitment even for a 4 support (most favored in that regard) to go grab a wisdom rune? And it is even worse for a 5 trying to steal it or both 4 and 5 trying to get the both runes. Feels like you can really mess up your lane by being gone for that long and that goes against that snowball strategy you talk about. Or am I missing something?
its a skill to understand the matchups before hand and identify which objective will be the best for the future of the game. yes it is a huge time commitment, so if a ward for the ancient camp gets put up and during the 6min lotus you can punish the enemy support for leaving lane. On the flip side, if you know your core can 1v2 why even bother staying, just sneak away and go grab objectives as this will set the enemy supports behind. Normally I just wait for a double range creep pushing our way and then leave if the lane matchup is relatively even.

Any support that likes drums likes this meta. 50 AS and a slow immunity that makes you impossible to touch for no mana cost every 30 seconds.
so many times, whenever I own so hard for the team, there will be one guy for sure from the team that gets so overconfident and kept going solo till they comeback

This map is not for saving heroes as support...is about killing ...no need stack for your carry bcos...the map is bigger now and easily farm... instead keep ganking..push the lanes...enemy pick riki...u cnt save people also...that why saving heroes is not an important objectives anymore...go for kills...

Yup. Almost every loss I had this patch is due to at least one idiot who thinks he needs to jungle or solo lanes for 30 min while the other team is snowballing non stop as 5.
Just curious Zach (Did you ever live in the United kingdom about 15 years ago?).
I think they should make it so your wisdom runes don't spawn after 20 unless the tormentor is dead. It would encourage teams to do it more.
