  • Chicken feeding system, Duck feeding, fodder systems, sprouting chicken and duck feed, happy healthy chickens and ducks
    In this video I take you through our 4th generation of sprouting and fodder system. The previous systems all worked well however this system takes less time to manage. We are very pleased with our winter feeding system (in deep snow country) which includes a in coop composting system, the sprouting fodder system, fresh greens daily, some frozen (and thawed) kale, dried sweet corn, and grain adlib.
    On nice days when there are open spaces (no snow) the chicken and ducks are out foraging, like they were today. Pond 5 is thawing so the ducks are having a blast today. A pair mallards are back and they are getting acquainted again.

    We have done a very similar system in the past but we sprouted barley and sunflower seeds. We moved Off Grid last spring and are tight on water usage so we haven’t yet taken back up that practice. Looks like you’re doing a great job. :)

      Yes many of our Dobermans have been blanket lovers and don't venture very far without a toy or their blankie

    I assume sprouting seeds is so your birds get greens in winter. I am in the North Island of New Zealand, and get a mild frost in winter a few times. It is fascinating to see how you cope with your climate.
    Excellent tutorial videos, that I can often apply to my situation. Thanks for the great detail you give, it is appreciated.

      yeah, we are on the other side of the ditch, with same weather. It must be hard dealing with snow for months on end.

      I lived in Karratha, WA for 10 years. I love Kevin's videos, such a contrast to the climate just north of Auckland, heaps of knowledge and can also apply or get ideas adaptable to my situation. Some of the stuff Kevin has done is unique, so I am totally fascinated.

    Great video Kevin. Did you show the hole size in the gray buckets or did I miss it?

    Do you supplement anything else for the ducks?

    • @GrowingABetterTomorrow
      @GrowingABetterTomorrow  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No we don't offer any supplements for the ducks. most of the year they're getting all the nutrients that they need by forging in the food force and along the margins of the various waterways. Their feed during the winter time has appropriate nutrients to meet their needs over the winter.

      @@GrowingABetterTomorrow so pellets and fodder in the winter ? I'm a newbie and looking for alternatives to pellets. Thanks

      @@kd6dash3dot7 Yes that's all we feed during the winter except for vegetable scraps Kale, greens, etc. during the winter until pond 5 thaws which it did last week. Then they forage and eat a mix of plants, seeds, weeds, invertebrates, as well as insects, worms, snails, and crustaceans. Their bills are always stirring up the margins of the ponds, swales and canals.
