  • Welcome everyone to my review of the new Cupra Born.
    The Born is Cupra’s first EV and shares a lot of its underpinnings with the VW ID.3. However, for Cupras car to stand out it needed more than just a different face. So it’s a little lower and being sold as an electric hot hatch!!
    Underneath we have 2 battery and 3 trims available.
    A 58 and 77 kWh batteries with an e-Boost option (standard on the 77kWh). Power is 201 bhp which is upped to 228 with the e-Boost for 30 seconds. So 0-62 on the 58kWh is 7.3 or 6.6 seconds. 7.0 for the larger and heavier 77kWh.
    Trim levels are easy to remember. You have V1, V2 and top of the range V3.
    Charging is a decent 135kWh capability so 10-80% should take around 40 mins.
    And finally range is between 254 and 341 miles.

    A great review, some of the comments on this video are ridiculous - keep up the good work.

    The arm rest looks so much better than the stupid individual ones on the id3. It’s the one thing I hate about it.
    Born looks so much more fun, And the seats look better than on my early id….
    I don’t think I’ve ever used the “start stop” button in my 2 years of ownership…
    Great review!

    You put your finger on it in your first sentence, Dave. It's a handsome beast. Much prettier than the VW. Nice review!

    The thing is though, if you buy a Cupra Ateca, all the buttons for heaters, air con etc are in the centre console as they should be.also with propper data logging equipment these are timed 0-60 at 5.8secs.

      I think if your looking for an EV, an Ateca is not going to be on your list!

      I've seen 5.9 clocked on a couple of channels. 58kwh with the 20" 235 wheels. Which is a warm enough hatch for most.
      The 0-30 is where it's at that's what will get you out of any trouble you find yourself in, and I imagine the 40-70 is decent.
      I've just swapped form a 100s of miles a day jab to working from home so probably max 200 a week. I live in an area with lots of tight B roads we use often so this I think will be ideal for me.
      My kids have all grown. And my job has come home, so I no longer need an estate, I'm about ready for something a little fun. Also I live in the centre of the UK (north Wales) so no where is really more than 2 max 3 half hour stops. So on the odd occurrence I venture out, I'll just add on the time needed.
      I'm a massive EV hater too, as I've never seen the point of them given my old job, so I'm sorting of doing it now my life has changed as an experiment, to see if it changes my perception.
      I don't think it will, I think if your doing miles a diesel still wins until they hike the price of fuel up, hybrids are ok, but Norway driving your still only getting 45-50mpg, 64-70 in town.
      I think If you don't do a lot then EV is fine, if not look elsewhere. Basically get the right tool for the job.

    Great video! The only put off for me was the odd appearance from the rear. In the flesh, it's strangley narrow and tall like a mobility vehicle. I assume it's due to the battery pack under the car not being well packaged within its design

    Good video! Any idea if 2024 born will have physical buttons? I’ve narrowed down to born v3 or a Q4 e tron But yet to drive either. Had a Skoda hire car for 2 months so I’m a bit familiar with VW type cars. The 2021 Octavia infotainment was glitchy as hell btw. Lag , sometimes freeze, crap really.

      Thank you for your comment. I cannot confirm if the 2024 Born will have physical controls yet. But something that is a common theme with VWG cars is their infotainment systems. Hopefully we will see some improvements and physical buttons back in the cars like we have seen with Skoda and Audi.

    Not mentioning that the larger battery car is only a 4 seater is a complete fail. That's really important especially as most buyers will be company/lease buyers who won't be pouring over spec sheets and doing test drives.

    • @AutoBears
      @AutoBears  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey there young Adam. I’m not reviewing the V3 and I’m sure if I had it I would’ve mentioned it. Plus not everyone used the middle seat. Luckily that’s where the salesman comes in 😉
      I wouldn’t call it a complete fail.
      Do you need a hug?

    • @adamyoung9655
      @adamyoung9655 ปีที่แล้ว

      @AutoBears That was kind of my point though mate most EV users don't test drive the cars and spend ages in the showroom so it's really important people know there are only 4 seats in the 77kw model. I appreciate the lighthearted reply though as in hindsight my comment was quite blunt. 😊

      @@adamyoung9655well if you spent ages in the showroom and don't notice there isn't a middle seat, I think they should buy a bike 😂😂😂

    • @StephenButlerOne
      @StephenButlerOne วันที่ผ่านมา

      V3 seats have leg extensions, are electric operated and have massaging functions. I think for both front seats. But not 100% on the passage massaging.
      Exit- just asked ai, yes both front seats have it on the V3 trim

    This car has grown on mt so much, im going to hopefully put an order in tomorrow. Thr 58kwh (for thr 5th seat) and the e push one in v3 trim as i want the better seats. Im getting older and my back likes a beeter seat.
    All the later reviews ive been looking at thr ui seems much snappier thsn this first round of review cars.
