This is a bunch of crap. I paid into social security for 15 years before I started in post office. The social security I paid into I should be paid my benefits on what I paid which should be just about $900. But because of these two policies I get $261. My wife has paid into social security her whole life 40 years of working in,private sector. If she passes a way I am not eligible for any of her social security and hi would have to return to work force. I am 76 years and should not have to do this. We have paid into social security to help with out pension. Instead the government has borrow from social security almost every year for their pet projects. This is our money, we paid into the program. you are not giving us anything that we did not earn. Instead you are stealing from postal employees, firefighters, teachers, police, public servants and many others who by law have paid into the program and are being denied their full social security benefits that they are entitled to. Nothing more nothing less
Look, the bottom line is that if you worked in jobs where you were forced to make contributions into Social Security, then you should receive the same amount of SS payment each month as anyone else who worked the same number of quarters for the same average wages or salary.
Fairness???? These public employees worked many hours for different employers before after and during the time they also worked as public employees. Like everyone else they saw huge portions of their checks taken for social security. Under WEP and GPO they never saw most of that money. That went to your mom’s social security check. You want fair? Stop taking social security taxes from those you intend to shortchange; and refund the taxes you’ve already stolen. Or, just shut up.
Exactly! I am sick of being denied my rightful SS benefits that I paid into for 20 years or more because I also chose to be a police officer and put my life on the line for other people!
Lee will not only not refund any taxes, he also will take from the fund to fund his projects and nobody else. Lee will not give money back to Americans ever.
This is how Bill Clinton is credited with the rare accomplishment of balancing the budget during his last year in office. Congress worked with him and money was ’borrowed’ from a surplus the Social Security Trust Fund was running at the time. And what was left in its place? An IOU. A no you are correct - it has never been repaid.
That's kind of true. The federal government has borrowed money from Social Security trust funds to finance general government operations but the government is legally obligated to repay the money with interest, and the government has never failed to do so. Why would they? So long as a nations public debt is denominated in that nations own fiat currency, it's literally impossible to bankrupt that government.
How about lifting us up down here who worked 50 years and get just above minimum. Can't make ends meet anylonger because the inflation rate is waaayy higher than the puny annual increase of 3.5 %. Then medical insurance rates increase. We are not getting any increase even though they say we are. The raise is not reality.
Despite what Lee has to say....Those with a pension get half of the benefit they would have received had they not received a pension. A better example is someone who works their way thru school and becomes a teacher. They work as a teacher for 10-15 years and return to the private sector. They would only get half of their benefit because they have a teacher pension based on 10 years which would be very small.
They took 2/3 rds of my earned benefit from private sector job. I retired from the Phila. PD in 1999 and worked in the private sector before and after law enforcement, put in my quarters and they took $772 a month out of an $1849 a month benefit when I worked until 70 and am still working. We paid into S.S. in private sector jobs. This Lee Guy and that knit-wit Former S.S. Manager on You tube are so wrong. There are millions of Cops, Firefighters, Teachers etc. who paid into the system and got short-changed by WEP-GPO since inception in 1983. Lee and Weir don't mention those paid into funds, they keep talking about insolvency. It's not the Wep-Gpo victims fault S.S. mismanaged the operation over nearly 1/2 century on the backs of what they call us; " A Minority." The fairness act is the right thing. R.A. Young Ret. PPD
paid into Social Security for 55 years and retired three years ago. This is my money, just like it is for millions of Americans who have done the same. It came out of our paychecks every week, so we have a right to it. Politicians, you must approve whatever is necessary so we can live the rest of our lives without worrying about paying our bills. Remember one important thing: as retired American citizens, we are still helping to pay your salaries. So please, stop the politics and do what we, your bosses, are asking you to do.
Senator Lee would not be getting my vote next go around if I lived there.. Cop for 18 years and my dad for 34 years. These laws are ridiculous. We both worked multiple jobs for many years and have SS greatly reduced. We only want what we earned and paid in..
How is it possible that people that never worked in the United States get Social Security! People that are here illegally are receiving SS benefits. Please explain???
I DONT THINK PEOPLE LEGAL OR ILLEGAL CAN.GET SSA BENIFITS IF THEY AND THEIR EMPLYERS DID NOT CONTRIBUTES TO SSA. PLEASE STOP WRITING WRONG INFORMATION 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
How is it you dont know what you are saying? We did pay into to SS and our benefits get reduced. In my case, I've paid for 34 years and counting. Since I have a pension, too, my benefits are reduced by 60%.
What's not fair is government using our SOC. SEC. because they don't know how to budget! I feel it's only fair the DM that used that money should take it out of their pockets to reimburse what they took out for stupid spending! What's not fair is when your spouse passes away we don't get their SOC. SEC. they Paid . The living spouses should get not the government.
There needs to be a complete overhaul of social security. Have something in place for the people that need it now and in the next couple decades. But there really needs to be a completely different system for the future. Having said this I don’t know what it would be, but I believe there are great ideas that should be discussed. Economists should be brought in and a sustainable, stable system should be able to be developed with people that truly understand how the economy works. The welfare system should also be overhauled. The people that are on assistance that get part time jobs or low income work shouldn’t be penalized and have their assistance taken away. It should be a motivating factor to encourage people to get whatever income they can get. It gives them experience, helps them get ahead of the curve, and just plain gives people pride to know they are contributing towards their own care. At a certain income the assistance can be incrementally reduced, but our system is ridiculously flawed.
This guy doesn’t understand how social security is calculated. It’s calculated on an average of 35 years, $0 for the years you didn’t contribute. I know one woman who worked for ten year’s, part time and only received $50 month. He wants to punish people for working two jobs. You can’t live on social security. This guys needs the boot. Stop giving money to foreign countries and take care of your citizens. Quit punishing those who worked for for the community.
Now that the really stupid spending is cut, maybe we can get on our feet faster. I believe this new present and team will do just that. They have already made good changes and more to come. The DM party has really screwed us up (proven!) and Biden didn't care about anyone else but himself and the upper elites that used him! They will go down next.
California here… I am a widow and was told that because I received a pension I fell under GPO I was denied survivor's benefits. My husband worked and contributed to social security and I have been denied for the last 5 years😢 is that fair?
Congress didn't take action for the last 41 years. What about those retirees in their 70s and 80s or those already passed away. Is the government going to pay them back all those years you have stolen from them?
People are entitled to pension-like insurance that employees and employers contribute to during their working time. I don't have a problem with people getting the Social Security Fairness Act, but I do have a problem with people not working and getting Social Security payments.
Lee's explanation doesn't represent what WEP and GPO did to most of us. He doesn't say that taking away 2/3 of the benefit we funded is being redistributed to other SS recipients. That makes SS an entitlement for the majority at the expense of a minority, and that minority is teachers, firefighters, and police officers - a group of people who are not "rich" in any financial sense.
Senator Lee, your a good man but you are missing the mark badly on this. What is MOST IMPORTANT is FIRST....take care of the theft politicians did way back in 1983 when they brought in "legalized theft" for millions like me. We are not getting anything more but the Fairness act ONLY gives us the same as what others have had for so many years. In the last 10 years of retirement for me I have been shorted around 50K in todays dollars! How would you like to be retired, 1/2 your pension gone due to an unwanted divorce and THEN have 1/2 your SS taken away?? This is the MORAL thing to do period. Do this then then look to fix SS in general.
I'm one of those that would/will benefit. I worked 15 years in the private sector, before getting a public sector job. My Social Security is decreased by half if not more, even though I paid into and earned benefits.
I agree, you should not lose what you paid into either. He is suggesting you should I think. Then he will take that money and line his pockets or waste the money on his rich buddies.
I agree you But that is not what they want to do. They want to make sure SS does not work and will crash in 10 years. I million dollars 30 years ago is like a billion today but yet they refuse to raise the cap to make it sustainable. Not our fault if they misused the funds. They need to fix it without punishing all people who paid into the system period.
They need to let the other 97% avoid paying fica taxes on their main jobs for many decades. That’s what the 3% did because the understanding was if they could have there own system and not pay FICA they could increase the size of their own pension benefits from what could be afforded otherwise and a reduced SS check was also a consequence. To be absolutely fair, let the non public worker redirect 12.4% fica taxes of his/her salary to his/ her own IRA/4o1K retirement account every year for decades to increase the size of his/her own weaker form of pension” with no resultant SS check reduction. Good deal! Of course that would bankrupt social security. But what is fair for the 3% should be fair for all. Right.? Granted there were issues with WEP and they should have modified the reduction calculation formula. Not get rid if of the whole thing. We just went from one form of unfairness to another. Who is going to pay the 190 billion estimated cost? My guess is the younger generation or we all will through across the board ss check benefit amount cuts.
Government workers paid in, if they worked a previous job, were forced to pay in and deserve the benefit. Also the government workers spouse was also penalized for the pension of their spouse. Double penalty.
His statements are ridiculous. What's not fair about teachers, police, FF etc receiving the FULL amount they are entitled to based on the same qualification (credits) as everyone else? And they are not getting preferential treatment or a "raise", just "back pay" they have been shorted for decades. Also, it's ludicrous to think that they have any responsibility for the looming crises. A specific group recipients should not be discriminated against and expected to foot the bill for political ineptitude. Fortunately, there are other politicians who truly understand the meaning of fair play.
Now senator... let's talk a little about maybe passing legislation to prevent predator insurance companies from killing U.S. citizens by denying payment for care... don't you think it would be more fair to the American people to have universal healthcare? Let's talk...
Give a race to everybody on Social Security and SSI not just a few of them they're not the only ones who suffering there's a lot of more people out here on Social Security and society that suffering that don't make no sense why we suffering so f****** much
Mike Lee thinks Social Security should not exist. As far as I know, he does not think we should get our money back either. BTW, Mike Lee is wealthy and never would need Social Security, yet still can draw it and a government pension.
He's mostly right - the issue isn't whether "dual workers" would get what they paid in, it's that they would receive a higher replacement rate than non "dual workers" with the same income. Yes, this is unfair and the loophole should be fixed. He's incorrect that the trust fund is being raided - it will eventually run out due to a miscalculation, not because money is being taken out of it. Please watch Dr. Ed Weir's channel for a complete explanation.
Its the unfairness act it only helps public servants that got pensions because I guess they only matter nobodys job is above anyone elses I've worked 47 years total I have no pension the job I retired from I was there 27 years hard labor 4 hernias carpol tunnel surgery knee problems cement floors do that always been a very hard worker didnt have the education to get a better job my scars and hands are my resume why is this fairness act only for state city federal workers it should be for all
Sadly they don't care about our knees and hands. They want to raise the age to collect to 70. Tell that to someone who works in a manual labor job Senator. You'll never relate
And contributing to the state teachers pension almost wipes out any spousal benefit I get from my husband. You are nuts - you'd better do better resesrch!! How about your senators give over the money we pay for your funded lunches, travel, etc. This fella is totally WRONG!!
Fairness act is a great thing to happen, but the government needs to work on the ssi benefits and ssdi, ssi recipients don't even meet the poverty line ,and it's time to get it together, and either politicians get on the move about it or ,attorneys in the public to get a civil class action law suit to go after what ssi recipients are in need of and money they have been unfairly screwed out of for alot of years that have went by
You're doing a fantastic job! Just a quick off-topic question: I have a SafePal wallet with USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). What's the best way to send them to Binance?
I worked 15 years as a firefighter earning an approximate $900/mo retirement and he thinks I shouldn’t receive any SS that I paid into for 30 years. POS!!!
Agree, we paid in, it is not entitlement, it is our money. It is not our problem if they mismanaged it. The only way to fix it is to guarantee our payments. It was not their money to spend. Let them increase the cap. A millions dollars 30 years ago is like a billion now so why is the cap so low? I am tired of bs acts.
I agree, if you pay it in, you should get it back. But Lee never will suport SS and will end disability for even veterans if he has his way. He believes poor people are lazy and not hurt, no joke. Lee also is against anything to help those who cannot help themselves guaranteed. Look at how he talks of anybody not rich.
@@mikehocking4836The point it is for anyone who paid in. Then make it so the public employee gets less per month, but gets their total over a longer period or gets more up front and it runs out quicker. But the way he talks, he thinks you should get less even though you paid more by paying both effectively.
Federal workers make a higher than avg salary and get excellent benefits, including 17+ paid federal holidays, 30 days vacation yearly excellent healthcare and a huge pension. SOME municipalities and city workers and some state workers have lower wages than average. Their pensions are much smaller.
Mike Lee, a gentleman I usually respect and agree with, is dead wrong on this issue. I spent many years working in jobs, including the U.S.Navy, that required me to pay into Social Security. In the latter part of my working years, I was employed by the State of Colorado and its political subdivisions. During these years, I was required to pay into the Public Employees Retirement Association (PERA). The retirement “pension” I receive from all those years of service is far from generous. But as I approached retirement from that system, I found that I would lose about 1/3 of the benefits from Social Security that I HAD ALREADY EARNED through my years of service and contributions into SS BEFORE the PERA employment had even begun. This was caused by the WEP - the same WEP Mike Lee wants to keep in place. Now my wife and I are trying to make it on these two limited fixed incomes as runaway inflation has eaten away at our purchasing power. Tell me, Senator Lee, how is that fair?
Did the government figure out this financial change when they decided to take out $$$ for SS for those who were covered by other pensions from the start? If the government was enough smart, they should've done such mistake. Those who are against it, simply get lost! You're sending the wrong message Simply.
You’re not considering that in many government jobs, especially at the State and County level, the employees are paid at lower wages or salaries than their counterparts in the private sector. In exchange for this, some of them earn a pension. But these are generally not the lucrative pensions like those that used to be paid in private industry jobs. They are more on the level of Social Security payments. If you work for 20 years, 10 in the SS system and 10 in a State government pension system, you don’t draw full benefits from either one. So it isn’t a matter these employees who worked for both are getting more. They’re actually getting less because WEP requires their SS benefits to be reduced as compared to those who worked the same amount of years at the same pay rate they worked during their SS years.
This is a bunch of crap. I paid into social security for 15 years before I started in post office. Basis I paid in I should be able to draw out.
Sounds like Lee is arguing even those who pay in should not get what they put in. This despite him being a multi-millionaire.
If you didn’t work for the government this doesn’t apply to you.
The word windfall is a lie! It’s not double dipping either. Those benefits were earned. Stop trying to rip off public servants.
Look, the bottom line is that if you worked in jobs where you were forced to make contributions into Social Security, then you should receive the same amount of SS payment each month as anyone else who worked the same number of quarters for the same average wages or salary.

Its the unfairness act it only helps public servants that got pensions because I guess they only matter nobodys job is above anyone elses I've worked 47 years total I have no pension the job I retired from I was there 27 years hard labor 4 hernias carpol tunnel surgery knee problems cement floors do that always been a very hard worker didnt have the education to get a better job my scars and hands are my resume why is this fairness act only for state city federal workers it should be for all
If you paid in, you get it back. The monthly rate is so you get it all and probably helps with tax burden.
And Lee is a guy who wants to end SS.
Fairness act is a great thing to happen, but the government needs to work on the ssi benefits and ssdi, ssi recipients don't even meet the poverty line ,and it's time to get it together, and either politicians get on the move about it or ,attorneys in the public to get a civil class action law suit to go after what ssi recipients are in need of and money they have been unfairly screwed out of for alot of years that have went by
There is not a more two faced senator than Lee on this subject.
You're 100% right there.
Having taxpayers pay for losers is the Dim way.
It should be for everyone not just public servants
I agree, if you pay it in, you should get it back. But Lee never will suport SS and will end disability for even veterans if he has his way. He believes poor people are lazy and not hurt, no joke. Lee also is against anything to help those who cannot help themselves guaranteed. Look at how he talks of anybody not rich.
@@mikehocking4836The point it is for anyone who paid in. Then make it so the public employee gets less per month, but gets their total over a longer period or gets more up front and it runs out quicker. But the way he talks, he thinks you should get less even though you paid more by paying both effectively.
How BIG are Government pensions? Because SS doesn’t pay what public jobs get.
Federal workers make a higher than avg salary and get excellent benefits, including 17+ paid federal holidays, 30 days vacation yearly excellent healthcare and a huge pension.
SOME municipalities and city workers and some state workers have lower wages than average. Their pensions are much smaller.
He needs to stop talking
People with disabilities should be allowed to keep receiving their benefits if they get married 😢that is so cruel.
I agree, because they paid into it and need that to survive.
6 to 8 months?! Hahaha!
This is stupidity they have to cut benefits to all or it done.
Not if they just hand out benefits like they should have and never touch the SS fund for other pet projects or to make their buddies rich.
@@easyenetwork2023 this system cannot work because the demographics. The politicians keep spending money.
The government giving more to the government.
you are absolutely correct Senator Lee
Gona make the wealthy wealthier, and the poor diggin in the dirt as usual.
Sen lee go away.😂😂😂😂😂😂
Yeah what what makes them deserve more than anybody else oh they work for the government
Im sure President Musk will discuss this issue with Vice President Trump.
