Chaka, King of the Zulus and Emperor of many of the peoples of Southern Africa, reigned at around the time of King George the 5th ( and John Quincy Adams, or was it Andrew Jackson? in the United States ) right when the British were beginning to establish a colony at Cape Town. His personal story is sad and sordid but he was a great man with the tactical ability of Napoleon and Caesar. The miniseries by Edward C. Faure encapsulated his grandeur. This is my favorite song from that miniseries, about the love between Chaka and his main servant girl. For the definitive history of the Zulu empire from it's beginnings through Cetheswayo ( the last Zulu king before the empire was disbanded ) read the book " The Washing of the Spears " by Donald R. Morris.

I watch Shaka Zulu every 1-2 years. Out of all the episodes of this story, this song in episode 8 stands out more than any other. It is so beautiful, I find myself listening to it over and over. It that short scene, it defines the hidden feelings she has for Shaka and what Shaka has for her. When she sang the part, " I just want for you to be mine", and Shaka stopped and looked up. It also shows that Shaka is not just a beast warrior, there is some compassion and love. I need the lyrics in English and the native language.

Thank you for the translation. I watched this series when it first aired in the USA. I loved it and couldn't wait for each episode. When it became available on a DVD, I bought it. Years later, it became available on BluRay. I bought that, too. This was, and still is, a great series. I'm watching it, again, in June of 2023, and I came looking for its sound track. I love African music. This is the only shows that I don't fast forward through the beginning and end credits, because I love to listen to the music. I have no idea what it’s saying, but it sounds great! Thanks, again, for the posting and the translation!

Yes much love and respect to Africa I myself have a little bit of African blood about 15 percent but I fully embrace it not like some people. Today I was having a discussion with a Middle Easterner who was giving me a hard time about giving Africa respect but I tore apart his argument Black is beautiful much love to all the beautiful Black women out there like Pampata!

This song is extraordinarily beautiful. It depicts love and romance with a softness and firmness (masculine and feminine) all at once which is due in part to the English verses that are essentially delivered as velvet-covered iron commands: "Look around but look at me only." The Zulu background singing just confirms that this non-traditional love song features a singer that is empowered or at least feels that way and is making sure the beloved knows what will happen in the long run. Yes, love can often be haughty, selfish and jealous. Quelle surprise!

I come from a Central American country called Nicaragua. In 1979 the primarily mixed race population overthrew the White dictator of the country and established their government. I think South Africans fought a long time to do the same thing and now they have their country back.

Why can't I stop listening to this
I saw this miniseries for the first time when I was 10 years old ( I'm 38 now ) and I LOVED IT. I was always a history buff and I was raised in a military family so I had great respect for Emperor Chaka's military prowess. I went out and bought the album for 100 dollars on Amazon and when I became more computer-saavy I uploaded this song, the best one on the album. The scene that this song was played for in the miniseries was very poignant, and it showed the only vulnerability that Chaka EVER showed. What a miniseries!
I feel ya. I watched tha mini-series wit my mom when I was a kid and I been hooked ever since. And this happened 2 be 1 of my favorite songs from tha series. Big UPS 4 tha upload, homie.

What a beautiful song...brings back memories of my childhood, watching shaka Zulu miniseries.
I remember becoming fascinated with this miniseries back in '86. I was 15 and had yet to learn of Chaka and his military prowess. At least he gave his Zulu nation the chance to be proud before the British decided it was time to start wiping them out like they'd been doing here in the U.S. with the Native Americans, of which I am. Chaka truly was one of those rare men...just like the song is named on the ost. What an amazing story and miniseries!!

I still have the album somewhere ... bought it as a 12-13 year old (I think). This was THE song that just captured me (I watched the series back then too). This song, the title sing "we are growing" and "Nandi's Theme" were my favs. Gorgeous!

I am a Bantu from Uganda. This is a Runyakitara Runyankore (great lakes region) approximate, "Omushwere wangye, wanyijuka nongayaya, oyijakunzikura wa'hwerwa amani. "My betrothed, if you do think of me it's without regard (i.e. putting me low), but you will ressurect/raise me when you run out of strength." A helpless rendering I guess, we are thousands of miles and many many generations apart but the language carries through. It was the same language once. I will never not love this song.

Marvin Grant I bought it used off of Amazon a few years ago. It cost me $100 for a used copy but it was well worth it, it was in Like New condition. New in shrinkwrap would have cost $175.00!!!
