    I love how Navarro tells Wendy during their last call, "What do you want from me? For me to throw my arms around you, and hold you close like my blood is your blood? Don't think I owe you anything" and the very last shot is Navarro throwing his arms around them.

    • @CrusaderDom3

      He really needs them. He liked and respected Wendy from their first meeting. Marty is a financial genius and no one can do what he does--Del always knew this about Marty. When Navarro kidnapped Marty, he found a resolve in Marty that he appreciated. He needs Wendy's political connects. They are way more valuable than just some lawyer. Plus Helen was trying to manipulate him. That's why Navarro chose Marty and Wendy over Helen in the end.

    The actor that played Ben did an amazing job. I literally broke down and cried during the scene of him screaming “no” so many times about going to a mental institution. Also that same part when Wendy is hearing Ben screaming through the police monitor. That literally broke my heart. The scene of him in the Taxi captured perfectly of his mental illness. And the scene of Wendy and Ben eating at the restaurant asking about his future goals/plans was so tragic. This man deserves all the awards and so does Wendy.

      Aaron Hopkins that’s a good moment too. She realized that no matter how much she wanted to protect him and the rest of her family. He knew too much and he’s going to keep opening his mouth. Unpopular opinion: Helen was actually an awesome character. She was by far one of the most terrifying and intimidating people on the show. She was also one of the most interesting and complex characters. She knew similar to the Byrd family what is was like balancing a family, and working for the cartel as a lawyer/assassin. She was ruthless and evil, but also understanding and reasonable- even compassionate. She was also probably going to have Marty, Wendy and the kids killed because of Ben’s colossal fuck ups. I also think her undoing was ultimately because she was so frightened towards the end, and moved too quickly with her last minute attempt to off the threat that was Marty and Wendy. She overestimated her plan and moved too fast. All in all, I thought she was a super badass character. Her being killed off was made clear towards the end of the episode, but I’m sad to see her go. Even if people think she deserved that bullet, she kept our jaws clenched and nails digging into our seats

    Ozark doesn't do fake-out deaths. Everyone who was shot, poisoned, thrown off a high rise, electrocuted, head bashed, and cremated aren't coming back. That's not this show's style at all. Helen and Ben are history.

    • @ButterCookie1984

      I want to believe that Ben is really not dead, the Nelson killed the wrong man

    • @ohroonoko
      @ohroonoko 4 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      @@ButterCookie1984 Nelson doesn't make mistakes. I have been open to the possibility that Nelson killed the wrong man on purpose. Wendy and Marty believe Ben is dead but Wendy never saw Nelson kill him, Nelson only kidnapped him. And Nelson helped Marty carry the body into the crematorium oven. Marty never peeked inside the sack. I think Navarro instructed Nelson to do this because he made up his mind that he trusted and needed the Byrdes more than he trusted and needed Helen. Maybe Navarro found out about Helen's plan to go to the FBI in order to frame Marty and trick Navarro into murdering the Byrdes so that she could take over Byrde Enterprises free and clear as well as get her revenge for her daughter learning the truth. Season 4 opens on the Lagunas Cartel getting taken down by joint U.S. and Mexican military forces. Meanwhile, back at Navarro's estate the Byrdes and Navarro are inside and then Ben walks in the room. So now Navarro is really no longer a threat because he completely trusts the Byrdes and they helped end the cartel war for him. But there is a new war back in Ozark when the Byrdes face the Snells/Cosgroves, with Ruth stuck in the middle. This is why Ben is so important to Season 4, as a reason for Ruth to return to the Byrdes. And without Ben, Jonah and Charlotte would never trust their parents again. So actually I think Ben is alive. I retract my original comment :)
      I would also like to add that Tom Pelphrey is a superb actor and it would be a shame to not use him more. He is a loose cannon and a high source of tension. The show needs the tension he adds to the story now that Navarro is no longer a threat to them.

      ohroonoko Thats when we learn that FBI agent Maya has been working for the cartel the entire time and she is the one who had the Lawyer Helen killed for trying to set up the Byrdes
      and take over the biz which she could never have run without Marty’s laundering genius and Wendys Political ability. Plus the Byrdes were all in and willing to do right by the cartel even sacrificing Ben. Ben may be alive and chilling in Mexico as a reward to the Byrdes loyalty, but he may be stone dead, we will see, time will tell.

      @@aaronbrutus2654 I don't think so. Because in season 1 Darlene is what you portrayed, she hates outsiders messing with their business. Howerver in this season you can clearly see darlene saw an oppening with Wyatt from the lagmores and the development that came from that. She knew Wyatt, hating Ruth, would be a gateway to explore the dynamics between ruth and the Byrds which, as everyone saw, resulted in Ruth joining Darlene in the end.
      You can see the shift in power when Darlene admits to killing his husband right after Wyatt tells her that Ruth killed his father and uncle. Instead of Darlene being pissed she saw the opportunity to guide them towards a common enemey...the byrds.
      You also have the consider that the Frank Sr was well aware of the problems his son was causing. I actually liked Darlene's action there and to me it was a good moment for the show.
      This season was by far the best one, I'm really liking the direction and development most characters are having and I hope that they can build upon this for season 4 even though, to me there isn't alot more material to go from here (the ending on this season even though it's a cliffhanger, it was a kinda closed ending). I hope they end the show next season or the season after that so it doesn't feel too dragged out.

Think about it - it's the 2nd casino that brought Helen to move into town; that's what put Helen and Ben on a collision course; that's what had Helen thinking about removing Marty; that's what got the Kansas City mobster's idiot son more invovled, which created conflict for Ruth...and on, and on...at the end of the day, Marty rescued his family, yet again, all the while having to fight with Wendy to do it which, come to think of it, was how it was way back in Chicago when she was emptying out their bank accounts and gaining the attention of Del, who offered to just kill her, and it was Marty who saved her life there, again - sheesh, imagine if she'd just stay on page with him!

    • @Whorecultist
      @Whorecultist 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@dgaubin I disagree that all of that falls on Wendy. The mobster's son was a jackass, and I don't think them buying the second casino really effected the path that he was on. Don't forget, Marty is the one that brought the feds down on them with his attempt to sabotage Wendy, which is why Helen got so heavily involved in the first place. Wendy is also the one that told Ruth about Ben, she warned everyone about him. Ruth is just as if not more guilty for Ben's death than Wendy is. She watched him have his massive episode and still asked Darlene to get him out. I won't disagree that Wendy has made some mistakes, but Marty has played an equal part in the mess.

Like Marty told him, the margin for error for their family is practically nonexistent. One mistake might be forgivable, but if you keep making mistakes it’s going to cost you your life.

    Agent Maya works with the Narvarro cartel and has been the whole time. Which is why she turns down every case Marty hands her and is so stubborn on trying to get Marty this insane deal. All to see if he's loyal. She probably ordered the kidnapping of Marty and flagged the account to see just how loyal he is. Then of course the last epsiode, she calls Marty to confirm he wasn't the one who signed the false confession. She then knows the truth and tells Narvarro. Hence why Hellen is killed. Agent Maya is the real girlfriend of Narvarro and the baby daddy is, you guessed it, Narvarro. Just kidding. Just a theory of course. Does it actually make sense though? A few things: First, the actor who played Ben deserves and Emmy and Golden Globe for his portrayal. That was some of the best acting I've seen on television in a long time. Like when he was in the State hospital crying to Ruth.. Damn near teared me up. The emotion was real.
    Second, although I saw Ben's death coming by Wendy it was still heartbreaking and shocking to see. I thought Wendy was going to pull the trigger herself though, which would have been very heartbreaking. Did anyone else get a Of Mice and Men vibe? A Lenny and George between Wendy and Ben? Ben was Lenny and Wendy was George. Ben not being able to help himself, trying to do right in his own mind but only making things worse just like Lenny? Then during their dinner when Wendy asked him where he envisioned himself in five years, that reminded me of George telling Lenny to explain the farm they were going to live on. Great scene, powerful scene, even if it was a little predictable. But still very powerful.
    Third, I also saw Helen's death coming, but just like the above example, it was still shocking despite somewhat predictable.
    Overall I was impressed with the season. It started slow, and I didn't like the back and forth between Wendy and Marty. I understand it was important but I'm glad they didn't have it like that the whole season. But it really picked up half ways through. Charlotte's acting was pretty good. The actor who plays Jonah still needs work. And the actress who played Erin definitely needed work. But they're kids, so it's understandable.
    Just my thoughts

    The underrated arc in this season was the Wendy and Helen duo. Helen was supposed to be an overseer of the operation an ended up becoming friends with Wendy. So much so that she had dinner with them, and let them meet her daughter. Wendy helped Helen find a place, and they both discussed their marriage issues. She also helped Wendy with the idea of making Navarro legitimate money. Helen at this moment became vulnerable, she became more of a person than a boss. After a while, Helen noticed that Wendy was gaining a little too much clout for her comfort. Wendy was getting away with criticizing Navarro, not answering her phone for him, and calling him at her leisure. Once their children were detained by the Sheriff, that put a strain on their relationship. And Helen turned back into the ruthless Helen we all know. And Helen set in motion to uproot the Byrdes because of their liability issues.

    **SPOILER ALERT**
    Ben was released from the hospital and went straight to expose Helen to her child, which is what got the Cartel to go after him. It wasn't him going to the casino which put him on their radar, it was because he pissed off Helen personally.
    And I feel that Helen was killed not because Navarro chose the Byrdes over her, but because he noticed that Helen started working in the interest of herself, whereas the Byrdes were working in the interest of him. For example, Wendy got her own brother killed for Navarro, which was for his betterment, whereas for Helen that was a personal victory.
    Helen's plan to get rid of the Byrdes was full of holes. It made absolutely no sense for Marty to confess to the FBI after Wendy had her brother killed for Navarro - surely he would have turned before that. Plus to have Helen of all people represent him when testifying against Navarro was plain stupid, Navarro would know that Marty is smarter than that.
    Helen was an incredible lawyer so she still had value and Navarro could have sat both parties down and told them to stop their fighting. But it became clear to him that Helen's plays were simply to discredit the Byrdes rather than to help the Cartel. Navarro mentioned to Wendy that it's not a partnership and he is only using them. I think in Helen's case Navarro noticed that Helen started to use him (to gain the casinos and hotels for more money in her pocket). That's why she was eliminated.

    • @conorv11
      @conorv11 4 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      I agree about Helen's plan to get rid of the Byrds was vindictive and ill-planned, however, I do not believe Navarro chose the Byrds over Helen because she was working for own self-interest, rather I feel that Navarro truly saw how much more of the Byrds were able to help Navarro, and how Helen and her personal vindictive nature put that at risk. The birds simply had more to give to Navarro than Helen ever had. Marty is far smarter than anyone else when it comes to laundering money so he is a clear asset, while Wendy is clearly smart and is ambitious. Moreover, we know Navarro saw the two plans ahead of him, one where the Byrds ended the war, and one where Helen ended the Byrds. Clearly, he just chose the better option for himself and got rid of Helen because he knew her ill-will and crappy plan would cost him.

      @@conorv11 I feel like you're saying the same think I am, just in a different way. Aren't Helen's ill-will and personal vindictive nature large components of her own self-interest? If they weren't, Navarro could have kept Helen in the picture, promoted the Byrds and told Helen to play happy family. After all, her personal hitman Frank works for Navarro, not her, so even Helen wouldn't have been able to touch the Byrds.

      You guys remember when Helen told Frank the hitman, that if her day ever came, to tell her. I guess his missed the memo 😅

      Yeah, going to the casino put him back on the radar after Ruth successfully hid him at the Snell farm. He went straight to see Helen and he was never going to be able to fix that, but might have been able to hide out. Helen's plan was that Navarro would kill the Byrdes when she showed him the confession. I don't think she ever intended to have to see it through in the US because Marty and Wendy would have disappeared.

      Haha. I was just editing my new Ozark video and stopped and watched that scene in the driveway when I saw it in the editor.
