New gun owner... Shot for first time. Friend offered to clean my gun for me I was like no way!! What is a gun owner who can't clean her own gun?? Thank you for the great simple video!!
I've owned my revolver my entire adult life, but been afraid to clean it. So I always have someone do it for me. But today I'm leaving to go camping and I had no one to clean it for me. I've had a cleaning kit for 20 years that I've never used. Today was the day. Thank you for such an easy video instructing me to clean my revolver!
I was always taught that no matter what gun you use, You never under any circumstance, Put any amount of oil inside the barrel. Oil does not compress and can cause a round to become lodged inside the barrel during the firing process which can be a risk for explosion.
You do this for storage. When you are ready to fire the gun you need to make sure the barrel is completely dry. I always run a bore snake through my barrels of my guns before I go to the range and use them and the cylinders if shooting a revolver.
But will you have time to run a bore snake through that gun if you were in immediate danger? Or what about someone else who might not know to do such, A family member perhaps. Never say it can't happen. It is a world of uncertainties.
This is probably a correct cleaning method, but why not clearly state the goal of the cleaning? I'm guessing it's to remove the lead, apply a light layer of oil to the exterior, inside the bore and chambers, all while not scratching the gun. Why use metal rods and cloth holders? Won't they scratch the gun? A good point by esh325, do you have to wipe clean the oil before shooting?

I love this! Straight to the point and quick. Just got my gp100 and was looking for a video to clean my revolver properly. Thanks Ruger.
I have just purchased a GP 100 revolver. Thank you for this video. It made cleaning my revolver easy. Short and simple and to the point.
Thx a lot from France, very clear for my first maintenance or that new gun 😉
Thank you.
Why lubricate it inside the barrel and cylinders? Do not have to lubricate anywhere else on the revolver? Do not have to clean anywhere else?
Hi.
Do you shoot 38.special with your ruger gp 100?
If it's that easy I'm gonna go buy one of these
big help, thanks
what is the powder?
why do you oil inside the barrel
to protect from the corrosiveness of the solvent

Thats why he said "for storage" . For protection leave it dry. Easy
The key is "lightly oiled". A thin film will protect the bore from corrosion and not offer enough resistance for any blockage. Good to go!
Run a solvent patch followed by dry ones before u shoot to remove all the oil. Simple
what powder solvent good gun oil are you using/recommend for ruger stainless steel revolver? what cleaning kit will you recommend? Thanks
He’s probably using Hoppes 9, but Ballistol works great on my Ruger GP 100.
@LeeJonB - Yes
thank you
Why oil the barrel but not the star rod?? Lol Idk but I’m pretty sure that the barrel ain’t need any oil..change my mind
It prevents rust.
@ my gun is made with stainless steel tho!

thankyou for this
The title says double-action but those look like single-action in the video.
This looks to be the GP100, double and single action revolver with a 4" or 4.24" barrel.
Doesn't matter. Soak clean oil dry. Simple
Dont use the same patch for bore and chambers. Bore patch is too dirty
Nothing happens..... I do it...
