Good review man! Thank you for for this! Very impressive how they went for the full-metal build and crazy sound quality for their first time making a planer headphone. For their second headphone, just WOW!
Bought the xs as soon as it dropped but did not really enjoyed them, recently bought the hifiman ef400 and wow. Amazing pair with the xs. Now I absolutely love the xs
I actually had QC issues with my XS. There was a buzzing in the left ear at certain frequencies. Showed up in my music and my stupid picky ears couldn't unhear it. Was talking to customer service from where I got them from and he was telling me that it's apparently something they've seen a LOT of. So be weary of that. If you're buying an XS, keep things around in case you need to return it. I can't speak to the Moondrop's quality, but the XS was very disappointing for me because I loved how they sounded. I personally just wouldn't feel safe getting another XS because who's to say that issue couldn't come about later down the line. Ended up getting an Audeze 2C and it's been fine but not the same as the XS.
@@SuperReview oh yea I don't think any brand is immune from QC issues. It's just scary when you spend a lot of money on something like that and it doesn't work as you would hope. Eventually I could see myself trying the XS again but it's something I'll never not think about lol. Like I said, curse my picky ears for being able to pick out these little anomalies haha
I had this exact issue, buzzing at 700hz on left driver. Thought it was defective but it turned out to be the cable. I noticed the default cable had some wiggle room on the tip, I noticed cause I used to pushed the tip harder into the driver to fix it. I got a cheap FAAEAL cable from amazon and it completely fixed the problem.
So I did end up ordering the Audeze LCD 2 Closed back after pulling up some more reviews of it and the DCA Aeon 2 Noir. Since I tend to avoid software EQ in favor of hearing the sound from the music being played and the gear (dac/amp chain and iem/headphones), the reviews and frequency response graphs look like the LCD 2 will match my preferences a little bit more then the Aeon 2 Noir. Also I tend to hop sources and headphones a lot so software EQ tends to get in the way a lot of the time.
@@SuperReview Okay the LCD 2 Closed is one of the most confusing headphones I have ever heard. The look and feel like they should be a monster of pure ear destruction, but what i got is one of the most agile and surprisingly delicate presentations of music I have heard. The bass is not the most powerful I have heard, but it is so responsive and it fades in and out of the mix with so much grace stealing the show when needed and flowing back in to the mix when it is time for something else to be highlighted. There might not be the force you get with some IEMs or Dynamic headphones, but there is so much texture and weight to it that the force is hardly missed. The detail is also quite insane from the slight string "wobble" in Johnny Cash's version of Hurt that added so much extra feeling to the mix. Separation and sense of space is also confusing since that is supposed to be the big trade going closed, but it sounds like being in a small but well controlled room with a very nice pair of speakers or maybe in a small venue with the band all around me. The positioning is also very accurate, the music positioning was great so I decided to try it with a test in gaming and the accuracy is on point with none of that weird cylinder effect you can sometimes get when the staging is wider then it is going front to back. Nothing sounded like the sound was compressed left/right, front/back or even up/down.
Thank you for this comparison. I was definitely confused on which one to get. I'm going with the Edition Xs because I value technicalities and stage/imaging over tonality (assuming headphones respond well to eq). You once mentioned that the venus responds well to bass boost equalization. Does the edition xs respond well too?
In my experience, yes! When you EQ the very low bass, like 40hz, they respond doing some bizarre kicks, you can feel it. I do boost and you even can see the large drivers kicking you. But i didn't saw a lot of changes when i tried to push midbass.
@@MTheoOA oh so it's because that region, no specifically the headphone response to EQ. Maybe is your EQ region too narrow or elevated? And is it preamplified so it does not clip audio?

@@SuperReview Looks like 3 of my top 5 this year will be IEMs you recommended. I’m still waiting for the Heart Mirror Pro, which is a Crinacle rec, but it’s unlikely to knock out any of the others. Good idea BTW, to include an over-ear headphone this year. Will you be considering wireless OEsor just wired?
I’ve been interested in both of these for some time. Do they both leak more sound than a HD600? When I take my HD600 off it isn’t too audible. Enjoyed your review, hoping to see more headphones though!
I have to ask - when you say “hi hats” do you genuinely mean hi hats specifically or do you mean cymbals in general like the crash at the beginning of dreams for example? I can see that crash being super splashy as it does come across somewhat harsh on a lot of my sets. Thanks for the review!
@@SuperReview ahhh yeah I get you now, I thought you were referring to that ridiculously loud crash at the beginning of dreams. Now it makes sense. Thank you for cleaning that up!
@@SuperReview Ah, K612 Pro and my Edition XS, had listened to hd650 too and other junk. Love both (not talking about IEMS, those i don't like as much as headphones, having hana 2021, some akg, tin hifis, etc). The thing is people talk about that Focal dynamics and bass slap... I don't even know if this is just placebo after watching the focal drivers moving like crazy or it's pretty much how you feel it (even if it's flat measuring). All this talk makes me so curious
No. The Sash Tres 45ohm takes the crown for overall best technicalities under $1000. High up there with the Arya, LCD-X 2021, HD800s, Focal Clears and etc. Only issue is wait time in getting it made as it's a custom headphone
I think the one big problem of venus is the treble. The treble is so dim that you can't really enjoy basically any treble focuse music, they gonna all sound lifeless and dark on venus.
I personally wouldn't use the Tiffen Black Pro Mist filter with these kind of product videos, makes everything look bloomy and washed out without a proper color grading.. then again, this is just my assumption based on the image I'm seeing.
All film drivers just arnt serviceable longterm. I had stax their long gone. If I went that way again I would buy the hi-end headset with the metal stator frames and build my own ten Y tube
