    Awesome video! Any chance you would sell the files for the laser cutting of the brackets?

    Award for chill, concise and informative. This is not the style of rack I'm wanting to build but I still watched every second & got some ideas. Thanks for sharing.

      I appreciate that! Just trying to make the kind of videos I myself like to watch and learn from.

    Could replace the riser top bolt with a pin and hinge that assembly so that you can open the boot on wagons. 🤙🏽

    love it. I love metric. Too bad I live in Canada, but our country is so small that all our commonly available steel is influenced by USA - and we get imperial dimensions

    • @dingeldiy
      @dingeldiy  ปีที่แล้ว

      50mm is close enough to 2 inch so with that info you shouldn't have too much trouble getting steel.

    • @jwiereng
      @jwiereng ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dingeldiy yep the getting 2 inch steel is not a problem, but tricky to use metric system for design and building when most the steel in Canada is imperial

      Try being an engineer and have to talk in British Thermal Units and convert to killowatts all day long... I went to university in the UK and emigrated to the "land of the free" mid career... The UK is all in metric.

    Thanks for the instructions mate, used it to plan out my rack build especially for spacing out the trays. Do you have a plasma cutter? I'm wondering how you cut the intricate shape in the gusseted pieces.
    For those following along at home and are new to metal work, i suggest you adjust the materials so as to maximise the common lengths available to you as most metal yards sell by the meter and charge per cut. best you get whole lengths and cut it yourself.
    4 bike rack:
    8m 10mm round bar (1500 per tray, 500 for support)
    4m 50x50x3 SHS (1300mm top and bottom, 1050 vertical)
    1m 50x3mm flat steel (135mm per wheel tray, off cuts used to cap off SHS)
    250x250mmx5mm steel plate for the gussets
    If you wanted a 5 rack just add 200mm to the top and bottom shs and factor in an addition 2m of 10mm round bar I also bisected the bottom piece and welded directly to vertical bar to omit the extra angle iron and bolts and gain an extra 50mm. i suggest you offset the top piece either left or right depending on which way your wheel is turned.
    This project cost me around $200 in materials including paint and shock cord.

      I had my plate steel laser cut by a friend but didn't want to mention it as I can't expect everyone to do the same.
      Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching!

    Great video mate! How long you recon it took for you to make? Labour wise..

      10-12 hours roughly. Things always take longer when you film it though

    Anyone build something similar with thru axle mounts? Would there be too much stress on axle? Thanks

    • @dingeldiy
      @dingeldiy  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      cant imagine there being too much stress. the mounts only needs to support the weight of a bike

  • @jwiereng
    @jwiereng 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Does this design stress the front wheel? For sure wheels straight would be strongest, but handlebars would be in conflict with neighbour. For sure wheels turned 90 would be the least strong. Seems like there is a decreasing strength as handlebar length increases.

      I see where you are coming from but i don't believe its reason for concern. These style racks are abundant and personally have never heard of any related issues. It's dynamic stresses are limited to only

    Hi Mate. Do those wheel Basket dimensions and height work OK with 29" wheels?
    Cheers

    • @dingeldiy
      @dingeldiy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes they do

    • @frankish5314
      @frankish5314 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I found they did not work for my bikes.. I had to add 50mm to the length of the hoops and mine are mounted at 150mm above the top bar.

  • @frankish5314
    @frankish5314 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I built something similar but we have bikes with 29 inch wheels so I had to extend the length of the hoops to 700mm when mounted 150mm above the top bar. Width of my hoops vary between 114mm and 130mm. Of course I had already made the hoops at around 630mm then had to hack off the ends and weld in extension pieces.. Annoying..:)

      Ha happens to the best of us, nothing like a bit of trial and error. Did you get the result in the end?

    • @frankish5314
      @frankish5314 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh yeah, in fact we just did a 500 mile round trip with 30 miles on rough logging roads. The rack held up beautifully. Hardly even notice the hoop extension..:)@@dingeldiy
