I was truly inspired by the song I left my heart in San Francisco by Tony Bennett. I already had a passion for time-lapse and of course, the beautiful landscape that is SF. Thinking on how to approach a new project I decided it was best to collaborate with Dredg, a band that I had grown up with and admired. Dredg was equally excited about the prospect of covering one of the best classic songs of our time and morphing it into something artistic and new.
We primarily used the Canon 5D Mark III, which has served as an amazing product for our projects. To capture unique movement within our shots we used Dynamic Perception's Stage 0 and the Stage 1 accompanied with Emotimo's TB3 Black Pan & Tilt System. With the backing of these two companies we were able to successfully capture our vision within each composition.
And of course, what is a project from PermaGrin Films without using our GoPro armada. As we ran around the streets of San Francisco guerrilla style, GoPro's served as an excellent behind-the-scenes tool to show off our techniques. You can find these videos on our instagram - / permagrinfilms

Just got back from my honeymoon in San Francisco and I definitely left part of my heart there! What a beautiful city and home to my favorite band, Dredg! I hope to return one day and eat chowder & ice cream for a week again 😊

"I Left My Heart in San Francisco" was written in 1953 by a gay couple, composer George Cory and lyricist Douglass Cross, who had met in San Francisco, then moved to Brooklyn. The song captured their romantic nostalgia for the city where they fell in love. Some things I see missing are the Cliff house, Ocean and Sloat Beaches and more of Golden Gate park. The only only glimpse of GGP was the Hall of Flowres and that was it. It is typical to show the popular tourist sites and forget about all the places that locals and natives go to

Glad the vid description mentions you shot most of these timelapses with 5D Mk III's. I love GoPro's, but they can't do timelapse like a DSLR can. Not yet, anyway.

How do you control the exposure when going from night to day and day to night (i.e. prevent overexposure when going from night to day and vice versa). Do you use Bulb Ramping? Or just estimate the shutter speed you need and stick with it?
