Actually we don't know, there have been cases of "remission". It's hard to accept you've been living a lie at the old age, and so you can see she says stuff like "you've made it to the good guys", because she still holds on to the picture of the world in her head.
In general, she will try to minimally adjust her position, for example, Russians are told they have a mighty army, but when they see that the army is no good, they do not extrapolate it and do not suspect they are being lied to in other aspects as well, they always assume: "well, it's just the army". Then, "he's just lucked out and ended up in the hands of good guys, most Ukrainians are not like that". Then, it's "well, those shelling of civilians is an outlier case, Russian army is not like that in general". So, she will keep finding justifications, like the fact that they make her son say this, or that he has lost his mind in the war, and it's not necessarily that she will fully understand what's going on.

@@jameswomack9019 US and NATO advisors probably gave Ukraine the advice to let "deserters" and POWs do these things (like the phone calls) to put Ukraine on the right side of any World Court Tribunal. It is VERY EASY to turn inhumane when you see your friends and neighbors being indiscriminately killed by the enemy. But taking the higher ground deprives Russia of the argument that they were just "getting payback" for the mistreatment of Russian POWS. It also wins "hearts and minds" both abroad and among the enemy. It's a lot easier to get enemy troops to surrender when they know you aren't going to kill them outright.
