I have a 1973 Z1 it was passed down to me by my father. "He's still alive". It's all 100% original other than a few small things. The gas cap needed replaced, seat needed redone, and obviously the grips have been replaced as well. Other than that nothing else has been changed. It really is the most beautiful bike ever made.
I owned one...the first release year. The most IDIOTIC thing I have EVER done in my entire life...was to sell it for some crap car, I needed to get me back and forth to an out-of-town College. I should have just taken the Greyhound, during the winter months. Was a 'good' idea at the time...but I have had years to reflect on my IDIOT (Kick me...Kick me NOW) move back then.... Oh well...I can say that I owned one for three years!
Holy moly. Beautiful. I have a 77 a1. This winter I finish it...and start on one more. The looks. The SOUND w an open header is incredible. Love em. I would ride nothing else. Get em while you can people. They are drying up.
Awesome example of the Z1. I bought a 76 model in a nice copper bronz color back in NZ the same year...what an experience...But I did love the 72 Z1 more, black motor and all. Best example I've seen. You can tell a real artist has restored this.. its a wonder this clip hasn't already inspired Kawasaki to put the bike back into production. A fitting piece of music too. Very beautiful indeed. Closeups were great, only thing missing is some footage of the bike cruising thru some nice country road.
THE most beautiful motorcycle ever designed & produced......AND a most beautiful and fitting piece of music to go with it. Unconditional love for true classics. I well up every single time I watch this wonderful senario!
I saw the prototype Z1 being tested in Arizona before production. It looked just like yours except the fenders were brushed aluminimum instead of being chromed. We asked the Kawasaki tech crew what it was and they said a 900 four stroke. I went to the Kawasaki dealer in Tucson and told them when I saw and they thought I was high on drugs. The story goes it was disguised as a Honda CB750, but it was not. It had KAWASAKI on the tank. A cool memory!
I love the z900. when rode on i did not have a full licence. When I got my licence, I did not have the money and finally I saved up and broke my leg. I am still not giving up on getting one.
Beautiful tribute to one of the most iconic motorcycles ever built. I had the pleasure of owning a 1974 Z1B from brand new. I still feel sorry for ever selling it. ❤️
I had one exactly like this one back in 1973 in Caracas Venezuela it was one of 6 units that came to the kawasaki dealer imported directly from JAPAN. I traded in my brand new Kawasaki 750 H2 (disc brakes) 3 cylinder two stroke which was considered the fastest bike in the world at that time. I wished I kept those bikes.
Ive had kwakas when i was 20 now im 55 and owned several z1b , z1000a , z1R , z1000 , and current bike is z1A and now building a toecutters z1000a , let the good times roll
A rare Gem indeed! Hard to believe that bike is 35 years old. I suspect you must be a secret time traveler capable of transporting objects to the future! :0) Quite a beauty. Thanks for sharing.
When the madness of todays life gets the better of you, where better to regain your sanity ? Back in the days, of the Z1900 :) I cannot help watching/listening to this ten times a day. You nailed it ! Thanks for the video, and the most suitable music. Only never say goodbye to our beloved Z1 900 :)
Immediately after this bike rolled off the production line, it was cryogenically frozen on a mountaintop facility in Norway for 30 years. When it was finally thawed out, it was maintained and ridden by a magical 7-foot tall elf who is light as a feather, and rides the bike amongst unicorns in wheat fields.
I bought one of these brand new in 1973. remember it like it was yesterday. Wish I would have kept it. paid $1995.00 for it. that was list price and they wouldn't take a dime off, and I didn't care. Rode it for 6 years and sold it for more than I gave for it. Would give triple to get it back.
a beatiful example of this bike I don't mind the music either I had a z1a 74 model when these machines came out they were streets in front of anything else on the market
:'( i wish my dads bike still looked like that my dad has a z1 900 1973 that was chopped up and modified for drag racing extended rake, 4 into1 headers, and lodes of engine part swapping and modifying poor thing has been sitting in the garage for 14 years i think its time for her to get a new paint job and get back on the road your lucky you go one so well preserved i envy you :/
Yes, I will agree that this one is most likely the finest in existence. It sold on 'fee-Bay' recently for well over 20,000.00! I'm also certain that the buyer was happy to have acquired it for what they paid for this motorcycle. A small price to pay for the preservation of the fantastic memories this particular model has provided for us all!
I had a ‘74 Z1 for four years. After riding a Honda CB500f4 for three years this was a real wake up. I learned self restraint on a Z1. Anything else could be deadly. I put a bunch of miles on the thing and it was very expensive to keep on the road. Sprockets, chains, rotted pipes. Fun bike though
The main Mad Max Baddies used the 77 Z1000s, no Kwaka 9s were hurt during the filming. An occasional Early Honda 4 is in the baddies gang. The actual Oz film with all Kwaka 9s is "Stone" from 74......look it up, its a gas man, dig it, a Film of the times Man, its a trip!!!.
@@peterhoulis1184 The Z900 appeared in Australia in 1976. In Kawasaki terms, you have the Z1 in 1973, the Z1A in 1974, the Z1B in 1975, then the Z900 with the twin discs in 76. Stone was made in the 73/early74 period, released in 74. So No Z900s at that time.
I used to own one of them in the mid 70s. Sold it for a few hundred quid. I could weep when I think how much it might be worth now. A stunning bike and a rare and beautiful example in this video. I could lick it all over!
Very nice bike! I will pass along some information that might save you from some major engine damage. The '73 Z1 came from the factory with valve shims that had an indentation in the center of the shim. These shims were known for blowing through the head at higher RPMs. This happen on my '73 Z1, and I had to have the head replaced. Kawasaki switched to flat shims on subsequent year models and this resolved the issue. They also installed the newer shims in my engine and I never this problem again. If you don't know if this bike still has the original shims or not, I would recommend you verify what they are, and if it still has the original ones, change them out. I'm sure you don't want one of them blowing a hole in the cylinder head...
I too feel the 1st gen Z’s, Zed’s for you European’s is is just perfection. I’m a proud owner of a 75’ Z1b. I will never get rid of her............ well maybe when I’m 85. 😎
The Z1 shown in the beginning is just about flawless .beautiful machine. The only thing they couldnt blow off was the Kawasaki H1 and ofcorse the H2 maybe top end but not through the first 4. Ive owned and ridden Z1s and about 6 Kawi Triples. But the bike that I had that took out the Honda 750s SuperSports was my 1975 Suzuki GT-380 with J&R expansion chambers & K&Ns and jetted by me.I bought the Kawasakis later. And they could do the job too.
I had an H1 at the same time my neighbor had a '74 Z1. I could stay right next to him on the 500 through the gears, but it also had chambers. I don't know about a 380 taking out a 750...that's a big cc difference...my H1 would beat a Honda 750, but it was a 500. A buddy of mine had a '73 H2 and it was a bit quicker than the Z1 through the gears, but the Z1 would take it on top end...

Toured the western US in 1975 on a blue one. I Like Mozart's K40, Bach, bla, bla, bla, your soundtrack is good and different. Most of us who rode them love the Z-1 music. The music of Ferrari, of Dual Overhead Cams, 12 Second Quarter Miles, Races won at 130 mph.
I bought a used z1 in 1998 that had a fuel problem, drove it around a few months. Then I got a letter in the mail from a guy in TX wanting my bike, how he knew I had one I'll never know, but I received a check in the mail for the bike he bought it sight unseen for 1500.00. ended up picking it up months later.

Stunning motorcycle, from the reverse-flared exhaust tips, to the fork-integrated reflectors. Motorcycle manufacturers need to bring these styles back, yet with modern technology (ABS, fuel injection, etc) - would be a smash hit, like Ford, Chevy and Chrysler have done with the 60's and 70's muscle cars. Not sure what they are waiting for ...?
Wow... I would pay a LOT to get one of those in such an amazing condition! Just change a couple of small details and the exhaust and you could have a Z1 that looks just like Eikichi Onizuka's Z1!

If there is or has ever been a better looking motor cycle than the Z1 I cant think of one !! maybe only the the later H1F

back in the day mine had a front end shimmy around 130mph, it had a lot left but i didn't have the balls to push through the shimmy. loved that bike
