The performances of Hayes and Cooper are astonishing real and modern. Compare them to other early sound performances.. There are no equals. It is why this film is as powerful in 2021 as it was in 1932.

There is an alternate version with a happy ending in which she lives. Also despite originally being produced by Paramount, when the movie was re-released in the late '40's it was by Warner Bros.! Yes the WB version with the still downbeat ending, is here on You Tube as well.

Every bit as good as Old Hollywood ever got. Maybe not entirely faithful to the novel, but nevertheless a small miracle of compression and capturing the spirit. Energetically directed by Frank Borgaze, photographed by the great Charles Lang (woefully underrated in his early days) and fine work by both the leads. As good as it gets!

This one is much better than the Rock Hudson one. There is more atmosphere and seriousness. I also don't cringe as bad every time she says, "darling". It is much more darker. There's a sense of foreboding doom on the horizon ready to strike. I wonder if that is the 6 years left till America is plunged into WWII or of its that I know what will happen to Mrs.Barkley and her baby. It could even be stylistic choices that the director made. I'm not sure 😕.

“The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.”
    ‭‭2 Peter‬ ‭3:9‬ ‭NIV‬
ROMANS 10:9-11 “If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame”
Matthew 11:28-30 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
“For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.””
    ‭‭Luke‬ ‭19:10‬ ‭
God wants us to believe in His One and Only Son, Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, who died for our sins :D When we truly believe in our hearts that Jesus is the Son of God, who died for our sins so we could have eternal life with God, we are saved from the eternal fire and have eternal life in Christ Jesus!! 💖 May God bless you all! ❤️🕊

These comments are certainly not inspiring me 'to watch this movie' !
There is just something awful about giving such stellar reviews to a movie purported to be or to end so tradgically sad.
Helen Hayes seems a tiny little thing; she looks to be smaller than Gary Cooper by 27 feet ! When Gary reaches down to lift her up for a kiss, - it looks like he's just examining a little cloth doll. When Miss Hayes confided in another that she was 'with child,' - I was a little bemused -

  • @ganeshr66
    @ganeshr66 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Beautiful photography, powerful acting by all three, but a flimsy story. Bad dialogues too.. What for does she keep talking about other women even in death bed and he makes her recite the wedding vow?! And the padre reciting wedding prayer makes it flimsy and bizarre.
And their focus on their personal love lives although both hold jobs that involve serving others suffering worse in war, makes it morally suspect as well. From the synopsis I read it seems the novel deals with that aspect better.
Worth watching just for Cooper though!

The two world wars signaled the death of all human love in the world...
What has transpired since and is happening now are only the death throes
of love. A slow and dwindling death; but death all the same.
