A hard lesson learned by David.
Felt sad over it but my soul is lifted by the subscribed figure above...rising steadily through the word of God and this teaching....people turning to the Lord.

“This poor man called, and the LORD heard him; he saved him out of all his troubles.
The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them.
Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in him.”
    Psalm 34: 6-8

The story about Hannah Overton, and the people who are so self-righteously convinced of her guilt, need a taste of their own medicine. They don't have any compassion until something like this happens to THEM.

Greetings from Charlotte, NC....I use your teachings often as I am studying the book of 1 Samuel and I have a question about your comment regarding David's lies. Are the lies told here any different/worse than the lie David told in Chapter 20, when David asked Jonathan to lie to Saul about why he (David) was not at the first moon dinner? Is it any different than the lie Rahab the harlot told regarding the spies? It feels like you are giving David a harsh assessment here. I know he, like all of us sins, and he does some despicable things later on but I just felt you were hard on him here. Thanks for pointing out the way David was quick to sincerely repent via the Psalms. I covet your response.

@@CalvaryChapelOntario Rats! I was looking forward to the answer. I don't think one lie is different from another but David had had such incredible victories, it seems hard to believe he would start operating in his own wisdom but actually, we all do that don't we. God gives a breakthrough and it doesn't take long til we are already trying to figure out our next step without waiting on God. Humanity hasn't change much.

@@annchovey2089 Haha me too would love to hear the reply. I agree that a lie is a lie no matter the motivation or goal, whether it's black or white LOL. Lev 19:11 says 'Ye shall not steal, neither deal falsely, neither lie one to another.' Simple. Yet I have read so much about lying in the Old Testament that at times I wonder if it's just fiction! But I guess it's not! It's incredible how godly men eg Abraham, Isaac, David all lied. Guess God wants to show us that we are really so fallible and need Him desperately. Jeremiah 17:9. If you read 1 Kings 13, you will read a very very bizarre story about lying. LOL.

I find it funny how some ppl say 'you got to believe in yourself' when they want to motivate others. They are so far from the truth.

First - thank you for your teaching. Your approach really helps to make scripture come alive. A quick question for you though - how do you reconcile David's taking matters into his own hands with Psalm 34, which is said to be written by David around this time and is such a Psalm of faith and trust in the Lord. Is it that David is not recognising that his own actions are not in keeping with what he espouses in the psalm? (I know as people we sometimes do that. We often seem blind to the fact we practise the very things we speak against.)
