    I'm a liberal at heart, but a big part of traffic accidents/injuries/deaths come from being distracted by your phone I completely agree with that law.
    Off course they do it in an unmarked police car. The difference between a marked and unmarked car on the road in combination with how people act on the road is huge.
    If someone experiences a long lasting mental illness for a minor fine like this, says more about someone's weak mental state than the way this situation is handled. If a person somehow escalates a situation like this it says more about that person weak communication skills than how 99% of our cops are.
    Work on yourself, instead of getting pissed off on a situation like this and calling a country fucked up. For an adult man you have a lot of growing up to do.

      Well, if it wasn't evident already, the problem I had and still have is using unmarked police vehicles to hijack poor motorhomes off the highway and give them a huge fine for..... navigating, essentially. With power comes great responsibility.

    • @FO0TMinecraftPVP
      @FO0TMinecraftPVP ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @Martin Andersson You're still not getting it and "simplifying" it in your favor what actually happened. Yes, you are using the navigation, but it's not the correct way. You need something that holds the phone for you, and it can't be your hand. And why do you think they get undercover? People only care if there are cops around, if they don't see any, they are more likely to not care about rules.
      And by the way you phrase it ("poor motorhomes", "harassment", "can't look at gps") you're still clearly not understanding it. But maybe you never will, that's up to you.

      They are. You can have a nice chat with them. To be a cop on the street, it will take several years on a police school. They are highly trained in de-escalating. Very professional. You can walk next to them and smoke your cannabis. You are allowed to hold a phone in your hand in the car when the car is not moving. A fine for bumper hugging/sticking on the highway would be about 630 Euro or $700....Regards from the Netherlands

    Unfortunately the police are right on this one and you're not being harrassed. They were polite and fair and spoke excellent English - maybe a different story in France, but you'll still have to pay. I keep thinking of the guy texting in a lorry in the UK who smashed into other drivers and killed people on the motorway - the point is fair, but you probably know that. Looking forward to the Scandinavian leg of your trip 👍

    • @themartinandersson
      @themartinandersson  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for your comment! ❤
      Well it's hard to argue the police "are wrong" hahaha, of course. And I don't object to the law, either.
      Although I think we ought to refine it a little bit. Me and probably 5 billion more people are using the phone for navigation and we will keep using the phone for navigation for all eternity no matter how much they criminalize said behavior. Hence, I would also like to see the police be more prudent and not use undercover police in unmarked vehicles to create dangerous traffic situations and pull off "normal" people off the highway. I'm having like a hundred different issues with that to be honest hahahaha
      Traffic controls I would be completely okay with, even undercover police intercepting normal people if they are talking to the phone, using it texting or anything else that is seemingly a prolonged mobile phone use.
      I am very happy that they did ticket me after having pulled me over. The fact that they didn't make an exception and even told me about the guy they ticketed on his birthday, was a demonstration of equality before the law. Well, at least us peasants are treated equally. The holy king is above the law lol.
      Again, I am very happy for your comment! I expected a whole lot more heat to be honest, basically to have this video completely trashed. According to TH-cam analytics it is one of the most approved videos lol. My intention - or call it desire - is to vlog and show my life just as it is, no filters, no censorship, no "angles". This includes including myself even in moments where I am "in the wrong", unhappy and/or unpleasant et cetera.
      For example this video, I am not at all happy with how I treated the police. I was overly grumpy and could have dealt with the situation differently. Indeed, I could have edited the video differently like not including the "why do you harass people" comment, which I understood full and well was going to be interpreted by many as being overly criticizing or negative against two very pleasant police officers. But hopefully, this transparency will also invite people like yourself to object and discuss these aspects even when they go against the video's narrative.
      For your info, we stood there maybe upwards of a whole hour (the payment machine needed to be called in) and we had a very very good talk. Although the video makes it out to sound like I was the one harassing the police officers with my negative "harass" comment, I can assure you it was meant as a more general statement and wasn't putting them down. We were only "arguing" a little bit during the first ten minutes of the stop while I was still inside my car. Outside we were talking about loads of stuff, making jokes and just hanging out in a very friendly atmosphere to be honest.
      SO... I guess what I wanted to say with all of that is simply just a big thank you for your "disagreeing" comment. I hope you will voice your opinion again, the next time! You know "conflict" drives human development and me personally, I do not fear people disagreeing. I find those conversations to be the most exciting and fruitful. But when I see a whole herd of people nodding their heads to everything that is said from a podium, that's when it is time to run hahahaha

      We simply have to be real here. Yes, people should mostly not hold a phone in their hand, or a bottle of water. But sometimes that's what we do, it's human nature. And it's always going to be that way.
      Have you never held an object in your hand whilst driving?

Just as I occasionally pick up a bottle of water to drink. I am pretty sure this has happened to you as well, and anyone else driving a significant distance.
      Let's keep it real. There is no law in the world that will ever make natural human behavior go away. So if there is a law that automagically makes all of us a criminal, then obviously this is nothing short of tyranny. The law must be updated to permit a temporary and short-lived use of objects, given the circumstantial traffic situation and individual needs.
      In the U.S. I think, one is not even allowed to touch a phone screen even if it is mounted and one is at a traffic stop. This is just ridiculous.

They don’t just turn them on for no reason. Second of all I don’t think anyone on the planet likes getting a ticket. I know I don’t but if you just think about how many traffic accidents happen due to people being distracted on their phone even if they are only using it for navigation it would shock you. Also you can just buy a holder for five bucks for your phone and then it’s perfectly fine and you won’t get a ticket.

      In the Netherlands you cannot hold a phone in your hands while driving, it makes sure people don't use them in a car, because the distraction of it have put a lot of people in serious risk of accidents. Buying a phone holder is an easy, safer and less costly option than holding your phone yourself. Just learn traffic laws first when you enter an unknown country to you. And yes, everyone who holds their phone gets an expensive ticket (360 + 11 euros ish if I am correct).

    Getting a ticket is frustrating and make a driver less focus on the road. Isn't it ironic? It's easy money from the sheep.

    Uneffing believable. Real criminals can just go along their business as the police are afraid of them but harassing good people is their kick these days. They should check people several times before giving them such a ridiculous ticket. If a person is watching their phone several times while driving, which you can easily see if driving behind someone using their phone as they start swerving, then they should intervene. Not because you looked on google maps for a couple of seconds. The Netherlands used to be such a relaxed country, lately it has turned into an extremist police country.

      I can only agree! By the end of the day, it's not like I am going to stop or even CAN stop using my phone for navigation after all. In particular what I am against is the fact that they were patrolling the highway in an unmarked car and didn't mind creating a MORE dangerous traffic situation than what was. When will they start using undercover police to ticket people jaywalking?? We have to let normal people be normal and use our tax money and police force to solve real crime instead.

      @@ramatgan1 Most common misconception where the directness is felt as rudeness, but that is totally up to you to perceive yourself. You have to understand that a different culture is just gonna be an eyeopener and is getting used to. I went to the middle east and noticed people were really nice, just to then later hear that they weren't being totally honest with their compliments and or opinions, but that's their culture and it's not a normal thing to give out your true opinion compared to what we Dutch people have. It can be felt as hurtful, but atleast you know they are being themselves and not having a seperate persona.
