As a former barista, this gave me ptsd flashbacks lol. But, I'm glad you're working in such a chill environment and have a positive attitude! This is what I wish my barista job was like.
I started out in the Food and Beverage industry as a Barista and eventually graduated from the Culinary Institute of America and am currently working at a 3 Michelin star restaurant. Your journey so far has been so inspiring to me and I feel like I relate so well with it. I appreciate the content you put out, Ryan and I wish nothing but the best for you! Love from Singapore!
hey chef,im actually very confused if i should become a chef or not.I have my own small cloud kitchen, when its busy,i love the rush and the feeling. Also love cooking. But just dont know if i should become a chef and work 12 hours a day with little pay. Please advice me?And is the industry as bad as they say it is?
Same here, I’ve been cooking my whole life but I’m stepping into my culinary journey next month. I’ve been working as a barista for 2 years and start culinary school in February. I am actually really happy I started as a barista because I’ll have that background knowledge as well. I spend all my free time studying everything I can with cooking and applying it any way I can to my daily life. Cheers to all who take the dive 😊
@@ko-kf2nu hello there! I don't think I'm fit to advise you in any way. While it can be true to a certain degree that the industry is bad, I do personally find some good in it, and to me, it's up to you to see what you can make of it. If cooking does bring you joy and you're comfortable living with the little salary and long hours on your feet, then perhaps stick around a little longer. But if there are other extrinsic factors Eg. family etc then perhaps you might want to take a step back. There is no shame in trading in your knives for another job and vice versa. As long as it makes sense to you and serves your self-interest.
I felt super nostalgic while watching your video! I used to work on a cafe as a barista and even though it was chaos sometimes, it was for sure my favourite job ever. I loved doing latte art - and learning how to do it because I was a beginner - and to chat/interact with clients. I guess working in a cafe has been romanticised for years so it’s good when someone shows how it works daily, like you did. Hope you enjoy your work like I used too. 💖
this looks like the coolest coffee shop, just from the mugs and glasses being used, and the to go cups are so cute. you take such care in your work and the way you guys prepare the beverages. this was so calming somehow haha thanks for sharing
This takes me back to when I worked at some really busy 3rd wave coffee places, there was some stress but there was something I really enjoyed about working there.
Great to see an update from you mate. I went through the soul-searching period a few years ago when I traded my knives for a new start. Wishing you well, happy new year!
This gave me such nostalgia when I worked at a coffee shop. Im interested to hear how you picked this place and some of the favorite things you've enjoyed so far.
So nice to see you at this job. Since I'm currently visiting San Francisco Bay area for a month, and feeling homesick for Vancouver. Your video made me feel how much I appreciate Kits and the best coffee joint in all of Van. Be well, Dear One & Happy New Year. Seeing this video, made my night.
Alot of hard work. Makes me appreciate these workers. Not that i haven't, but i didn't know what goes on in the operations of a barista. I'm a coffee addict.
You look very happy at what your doing! At the end of the day, that’s all that matters is that your happy and you did your best! Lots of love from San Antonio Texas ❤️
Oh I looove this. It seems so much fun for you plus better hours and work life balance, we love to see it! So glad you’re enjoying your new career 💖 also this cafe looks so dope, I love that you can make traditional matcha and you’re weighing your coffee and can taste test before the day starts to make adjustments!
I love working in different creative fields like culinary, drawing/painting, music, etc. I’m gonna start my first job soon after my 16th birthday and I’ve been wanting to work as a barista for a while. I finally found an available place and the atmosphere is so calming and sweet. Definitely a good place for me to start. I wanna get more experience from videos so I can at least have some basic knowledge other than my own coffee-making at home😅
first time seeing content from you and I can tell that you make a great impact on people! Your energy is clean and your smile is bright, you are meant to positively impact people in your life; and you do :)
Just a way to save your wrist later down the line, when tamping, put your fingers on the base of the tamp and push. The pressure won’t end up in your palm then your wrist 🥰 no carpal tunnel here folks. I would look at some videos (love James Hoffman)
Oh my gawd my first week ever as a barista is over and i just don’t know how you guys do it, first time ever on the POS had a customer yelling at me and telling me to get off the register and have someone with experience run the POS it was stressful to say the least my boss was surprised I came back the next day for work I didn’t want to but this is my only source of income so im going to stick it out being a barista
It gets easier with time!! Good for you for trying something new, just remember that even if someone is yelling at you you can always control how you react! I used to get startled now I’ll just stare at anyone who decides To yell, you’ve got this!! Don’t let meanies take away from a fun job! “It can be fun”
@@NoobMaster-ey5sy Just stay calm and realize that while this is a source of income, its a great learning experience! There will be ups and downs that are sometimes stressful and sometimes awesome. Depending on where you work, the customers will be different but there are still some kind people out there! But sadly, there are some meanies so be cautious and friendly! As for drinks, if you have prior experience it should be easier but if not, taking some time, even 10 minutes to look at basic definitions and tutorials on the Internet or in books. I’m a bit late, but i’m sure you got this! 💕
@@mavemichael thank you so much! I did a lot better than I thought I would do, and it helps a lot that I have amazing coworkers and an incredible boss. I still get nervous before every shift but for the most part it’s gotten easier :)

Really fine video production Ryan. The little subtleties like breaking for lunch and it being dark outside as you’re closing really complete the picture. Oh, and have you seen the movie “The Menu”? It’s just out.
It’s fun watching other videos of baristas especially the timings, because for me an 8-CL (we shut at 5 but it’s whenever we actually finishing cleaning) is my usual shift but if I open it’s 7-4 or 5. Bht for you an open to close shift is my usual which seems so crazy to me😮
Mannn!!!! Iam a barista too here and I wish I had all those clients lining up just waiting for me to work on them... mannn!! It really feels good when I’m on a machine... good job 👏🏿
I remember how heavy the used grounds bags were when I worked at a coffee shop. The way you carried them up the stairs tells me I would never wanna get in a fight with you hahaha
