Looks Amazing! Those counter tops are beautiful! Love the "false" hood as well! May wanna seal it just for cleaning purposes cause of grease rising. And I like the Hersey brown however I think a marbled look would be really pretty as well. You can actually buy diy marble counter top epoxy kits.
Another fairly cheap option for wood counters is floorboards! We found some oak flooring for $3/sqft and my husband just glued it onto a piece of plywood. He did have to make an edge piece, but it turned out really nice and super affordable!
Beth, you should use food grade sealant on your countertops. Poly is not food approved - maybe you can sand the top coat and use food grade sealer like tung oil or beeswax (Howards butcher block sealer is good). I wanted butcher block countertops and got mine from Lumber Liquidator (they come in 12ft sections) and they have held up beautifully. The 'range hood' is gorgeous. Now if I can just get my husband to do these projects and have fun at... (you guys are a hoot!!). Just about to end when I saw your post - so sorry to hear about your Dad. My prayers and thoughts for you and your family.
I don’t think the epoxy is food grade either???
Thanks for the tip. I always try to go non-toxic, as I suffer from chemical sensitivity. Can you use the food grade sealer over chalk paint?
@@chocolate-eq6jn I don’t think you can use any food grade oil/wax over any type of paint bc the wax/oil has to penetrate the wood, which is usually raw, but check with the mfgr.

Absolutely astounding!!! I'm in awe of you both! I love everything about your work. I've never knew you could paint sinks! I used to have stainless but got white. I'm not much for keeping it bleached, so now I wish I had my stainless back!

Those kitchen counters look stunning. Your vision and Shane’s handy work are a force to be reckoned with when it comes to affordable D.I.Y. decoration. Even though I’m still iffy on things getting caught within the cracks and crevices, it’s still beautiful. Maybe it’s just a little dip, since you said you put in wood glue to prevent anything from falling in? Anyways thank you Merina and Shane for sharing your genius decorative minds and helping out us poor folks who love the high fashion D.I.Y.s but can’t afford it, and making them affordable.
It turned out beautiful! 😍 It's a blessing to have a handy husband... Haha! My husband replaced our countertop too (we basically had to inexpensively remodel his great aunt's home so we could live in it), he made it out of 3/4 inch plywood and stained it and put polyurethane on the top. I wished I could share a picture. It's one of my favorite things in the whole house now you got me thinking about making my sink white. 😂

I was wondering if you would maybe wanna try and make a noodle board for the top of your stove? It covers the burners and can give you more temporary counter space. They are usually made with wood. I would like to make one, maybe with the foam poster board.

Love the renovation! Thought- if you don’t use your back door a lot, you could swing your laundry glass door to hang from the fridge wall, across the outside door and you could hide your vacuum, mop etc behind it if you cover the bottom glass panels. Still leaves the outside door accessible in an emergency. Extra storage. Hope that makes sense 💖🇦🇺

Everything turned out amazing!! The hood vent was WOW!!!! AND THE SINK!!! HOLYCOW!!! We redid our bathroom in 2019, I spray painted all of my faucets, because Menards only had the bathtub stopper in the rubbed bronze, so that was my only option. Here we are in 2022 and they are still holding up! I would try some different coverage on your countertops for food. Or invest in a couple of good large cutting boards! 😘😘 you guys did an amazing job! 👏👏👏👏👏👏❤️❤️❤️❤️. I was glad to see the spray paint came off your hand! I was like uhoh! You crack me up!🤣🤣🤣

I did similar countertops like 15 years ago with furring strips we did the floor too it was so pretty. You should consider doing two to three coats of a food safe sealer on top of the poly. You can also make the matching stove cover. I love the range hood that is so cute! Thanks for sharing!

OMGosh!! This video came at the perfect time! I’ve been redoing my kitchen. Tore off all the contact paper on my counters and decided to restain instead! Painted cabinets antique white. I’ve wanted an oven hood (like that expensive one) forever but I need my cabinet space, too. Thank you for great idea!! Your kitchen looks awesome, by the way! Great job, guys!

I LOVE how it all turned out! Have you thought about cutting the center out from behind the hood range door? Then Shane could build a shelf all the way across and you could maximize your cupboard space to be able to put more up there.

I really like how it looks.. but the practicality of the range hood worries me. With the steam from cooking and the grease splatter, would the wood start to warp? Not being a turd, my bro in law builds houses so I have learned a lot from hearing different things from my sister.
Merina, I love it. If you are having trouble with the wall door staying shut do magnets. It’s a cheap easy fix. If the sink doesn’t hold up look into ikea sinks. I’ve had a white sink from ikea for 5 years and it’s still in great shape. I really love how the kitchen turned out.

Beautiful job! I have Ikea butcher block counter tops and we used Waterlock to seal them so they are food grade safe.
What did you put in between the cracks of wood? Just the poly or did you use caulk also??

Oh My Goodness Marina!! Beautiful! We did our countertops about five years ago doing the same thing. We tried to refinish them a few months ago, and it didn't go so well. The finish bubbled up. But on a good note, for our anniversary this year, we bought some walnut wood from a saw mill to redo them. If you go to an actual saw mill you can get pretty good deals if you can plain and sand the wood and all of that good stuff.:)
When you say you used filler so no liquid gets down in the cracks what did you use and how did you use it?

Oh my stars!!! I LOVE THIS!!! about 20 years ago my husband built wooden counter tops as we didn't have the funds for new tops and really wanted to update our chipped and stained ones. I dearly loved them despite the fact that nobody had them. We sold our house 7 years ago and I still miss those counter tops. One day I'll have them again....you just taught me how to make them!! Stunning and beautiful as always you hit it out of the ball park.
You guys have blown me away with this kitchen remodel it is so gorgeous I'm in love with the sink I'm in love with the counters and the stove hood its show's that doing it yourself is the best you make a mastake its on you can fix it to look to your likening!!!!!

My husband built me a table like your countertop and he filled the cracks with black wood filler, so I never have to worry about crumbs getting in there. It's completely smooth.
I love this!!!! It makes me wanna do it lol maybe I can talk mine into letting us do this! ❤️ We are much like y'all in the diy category we like to try and make things ourselves budget friendly! You can do alot of things with 2 x 4's and fence boards we've discovered!
We just did the wood counter tops, what did you use to fill the under side? I love the gaps in the top as well but didn’t have any idea on how to stop things from falling through.
