Even though I am an Escanor Fan, the almight's I'm a symbol was a crit bar. Remember, many people don't believe in god or better yet people don't even recognize them. But symbol are recognized by everyone like peace symbol (a white dove), bad luck (black cat) though not many people believe but they do know what symbolizes what.

In the manga it shows a mission before they were wanted and skinny Escanor is being attacked by the Vampire Lord, who is stronger than all the sins (with Wrath being sealed) and he talks shit about one of Escanor's poems about Merlin, and Escanor burns him to ashes brutally as soon as he begins to transform. In the ending he's complaining about the vamp's words and Merlin asks to hear it, which was a cute ending.
