Hi Kurt. I’m planning doing an electric conversion on a DS myself. The suspension is controlled by a pump, there should be no problem to run this off the batteries.
@@mvmallinson Good luck with that. If you can afford modern batteries, you could probably get quite a good range (for example with 18650 cells from a Tesla Model S). I think it's one of the best classic cars to convert to electric, since the engine has always been its weak point - it's not fast and more than that, it's kind of agricultural (how it revs and sounds), completely unlike the car looks.

Onboard charger charges vehicle overnight from empty (some 7 hours). But usually I only do about 20-40 kms a day, so dosen't take long. The DS has regen and as a result has a range of 120kms. It performs better then the original 2.3litre fuel injected motor. Have not tested top speed. Legal maximum in Australia is 110kms. Have gone up to 130 but don't want to lose my license.

AWESOME, Stunning Retro EV, love it!! Your battery pack design is excellent, I always liked the A123 Prismatic Cells, thought they would really take off years ago .. but IMO, they mis-read the market .. A123 was intent and invested in supplying the entire Battery Pack, but OEMs only wanted to buy cells at a time when A123 was not quite at production stages and LG Chem was .. LG Chem won the cell business over A123. About 10 years ago, ALL the OEMs made a decision that Battery Packs would be a "core technology" and that they would only buy cells as a low cost commodity item,... A123 business / product strategy was Doomed to bankruptcy, even though their LiFePO4 chemistry was the safest and didn't need expensive cobalt.
Yeaaaaahhhh love these comments with a LOT of good information!!!! Yeah I remember back in 2013/2014 everyone only talked about A123 cells for both pouch and 26650 cylindrical cells... they also had a bad batch and some companies got hurt big time but there was no where else to go, they’re the best ones. In the end a Chinese company bought A123 and they do all the manufacturing in China. They tried to revive the A123 battery business but was never the same... like you said, everyone migrated to LG Chem for pouch and the 18650 became very popular making the 26650 business obsolete. I love this Citroen, it packs two pieces of history, the car itself and the legendary original A123 cells =]
@@BrunoPOWEEER it's sad that A123 went belly up .. it was poor management, not their core technology. The decision to invest heavily in Battery Packs and to do that with government money provided during the 2008 financial crash recovery .. lead to them over extending themselves. The cells were awesome, and MUCH SAFER than the exploding fire bombs in most EVs today. I worked directly with A123 back in 2008-2010 .. developing several of the electrical connectors they used on their packs, we prototyped, tooled and even made some early wiring harnesses for their battery packs. Those same connectors are used in Europe/Asia regions today on other OEM vehicles.
@@KrustyKlown Unfortunately A123 was dragged-down into bankruptcy due to Fisker Karma going belly-up! They had geard-up for his volumes that never happened. I selected them as they were the best power to weight ratio batteries; might still be the case.
@@AldoGrech55 IMO, even if Fisker had stayed afloat .. A123 still would have gone bankrupt. Their prismatic cells were a year or so behind in development compared to LG Chem and OEMs have valued power density over the vastly superior fire safety of LiPO4 chemistry. A123 business plan was to sell battery packs and cells to multiple large OEMs, not just Fiskers low volumes .. they invested heavily in that strategy, using Obama bail money to do so.. then that business did not materialize .. which killed them almost instantly.

Michael Eric Menk Thaaaaanks mate for this very informative comment!! Very interesting that the weight of the car is directly related to the brakes...
This is the original DS pump, the original petrol engine would’ve completely cover up the pump noise. A petrol engine idling is always running and noisy so you can’t even hear the pump kicking in and topping up, now that it’s electric you can hear any little noise. It’s possible to make quieter which is something I was attempted to help but we were there packing up all his stuff to send to Italy... he can do it when the car arrives there =]
Thanks bro you're back with your new video. I always waiting for your videos 💗
Hahaaaaa thaaaanks for being a great subscriber mate!!!
I’m uploading videos more often now... hell yeaaaahh
Love the car....not sure on the 8yo interviewing tho. Thanks Christ the tones down as the video went on
Motor is AC51 Bruno!! (You captioned AC31 by mistake).
My dad's favorite car 😍
My dads favourite car too!! Hahaaa
Great taste! My favourite car too.
the Citroen DS, which stands for ‘Déese’, which in turn is French for ‘Goddess’. It’s pronounced “day ess”
that guy does the sound effects during the F1 races...wrraaaaawwwwww!!!!
Citroen missed a marketing opportunity there
Yeaaaahhh... imagine if they embraced electric back in the days and released this car with both options: petrol or ELECTRIC.
Even using many Lead Acid Batteries and older DC motors it still would be a nice option. I recently worked on a rare Baker 1912 originally electric car before petrol cars th-cam.com/video/OhnjMdzGusc/w-d-xo.html
Ohhh!!! what-"AH" beauty! Yeah!⚡
wish the presenter would stop saying "WOW!!!!!!!"
Hi. I love the DS. Didn't know much about it. Is the batttery powered DS better than the original version? Would love to see where the motor is and also the other batteries at the back as well. It is extremely increditable to have this built in 2014. What a great man!
Thank you Wai Chow. here you will find all the build details amanoauto.blogspot.com/2013/05/update-well-few-years-have-gone-past.html

The French cars was so different that any car manufactures . They are in a class of their own . I am glad I am French . My last name or Sr name is Mullineaux . My dated my family tree that goes back to 900 AD in France just south of Paris . Matter of fact I think buy now it would be a village or suburb of Paris . I like to say hello to all the Mullineaux in France if there is anyone left .
Jeff Mullinix yeeeahh very likely that Citroën employed at least one Mullineaux when they’re designing this beautiful DS in France!! =]
Like if you remember the gattaca's car.
What is its range, top speed, 0-100kmh acceleration speed and charging speed?
Great video BTW!
@@AldoGrech55 Thank you for your reply! I am planning to do this project on my 2010 Toyota Corolla. Im planning to get a tesla model s charging socket, motors and battery to get a better range of atleast 200km and faster charging of 2 hours maximum, would that work?
@@pompmachine4999 Should work fine. 2 hour charging time depends on a lot of things. The Tesla batteries certainly can handle-it. However it also depends on the charging infrastructure and battery cooling. So I think you need to do a bit more research; or trial and error, as I did.
Yesss... Aldo is here ohhhhh yeaaaahhh
Guy said wow in that video more than I have in my life.
Hahahahahahahahahahahaaa this is hilarious mate hahahahaaaa
Such a shame that the credibility of Aldo's remarkable achievement is compromised by such a ridiculous commentary. Whatever your problem is, you managed to make this one of the most painful videos on youtube.
Hahahahaha making the most painful video on TH-cam is got to be a remarkable achievement hahahaha ohhhh yeaaahhh =]
If you find a cure for ADHD then cure him
Thanks for making and sharing video, I have a 1972 citroen ds21 in new jersey and suggestions on how i can get it converted to electric?
Lovely video bro, I love your enthusiasm . Its how i sound in my head all the time. What is the range of the car?
Hahahahaha I’m laughing here imagining something like my voice inside your head hahahahahaa you must be a happy guy like me.. =]
Range, this car was made in 2014 and anything over 80 or 100km range was like WOOOWWW... this Citroën is doing around 120km on a single charge, it depends how hard you drive.
So much POWEEEEEEEERRR ohhh yeaahh
120kms. limited by the maximum weight allowed by law in Australia!
@@AldoGrech55 Thank you .
Nice...I was waiting for it since a long time. Hope the hydraulic s work perfectly
Thaaaanks mate... yeah Aldo got it spot on!! I’m sure we could make it nearly silent doing some very simple modifications. I was going to help improving some other stuff too but Aldo had a limited time in Australia sorting out paperwork to send this car to Italy. We are close friend, there will be lots of opportunities in the future =]
Bruno ...just love your "enthusiasm for love of electric cars ....love them too & thank you,
Aldo awesome & well done...Electric retrofit I would call ...Wooooohhaaawooo ......I tried :)
Hahahahaha thaaanks!! That comment just put the biggest smile in my face wooooohhhaaaaaawoooooo... hahaha ohhh yeaahh!!!
Interesting video, but painful to watch. I literally had to cute the sound and read the damn subtitles for the whole video.
Thank you I guess.
I've been wanting to see one of these since watching Gattaca.
Hahaaaaa yeaahh this Citroën DS are a true classic car... electric is even better Hahaa ohhhh yeeeaaaahh
There's a DS collecting dust around the corner from my place. However, if I were to do this myself I think I'd go with the convertible.
Bravo Aldo!!! Good work!!! How many distance run with one charge ?
Hahaaa thaaaanks mate... this car is very aerodynamic so it’s actually quite efficient, can do between 95 to 110km range depending on driving style and terrain (lots of hills or mostly flat) and also windy or cold days expect more like 95km range. Which is okay for most urban daily drive =]
120kms. limited by the maximum weight allowed by law in Australia!
The perfect combination of old school reliability with an improved powertrain.
Génial, DS unique au monde ! bravo.
Hahaaaa thaaaaaanks mate!! Bravoooo bravoooo =]
... could have been an interesting Video ... if the audio wasn't so annoying ... *sigh
Ok this is awesome and I plan on building it soon or anytime I get a chance.
Yeaaahhh building an EV is a super fun project you’ll learn sooooooo much!!! I always recommend people to start with a smal Electric bike to learn everything in small scale then step up and play with bigger stuff, that extra knowledge may save you between $10k-$25k in making the right decision buying the right things and putting things together.
"It's so quiet! Wwwwwoooooowwww! Can't hear anything! Wwwwwwoooooooowwwww!" I enjoyed the presentation, btw.
If ever a car was built for electrification
So cool epower thanks.
Such a nice car project keep it up

Fantastic
Yes, I'm originally from Gozo. Have been away for the last 35 years.
Why not 18650 cells?
2014
Tesla used 18650s in the 2008 Roadster.
Lifepo4 are also easyer to keep safe. (yes, you to get Lifepo4 in the 18650 size)
Yes, but unfortunately with less than half the energy density.
@@elgalloazul no, lithium cobalt oxide 18650 has 3.15 times the energy density of lithium iron phosphate battery.

BigCooter.com woooowww now I know why you know so much about A123 hahaaaa
