I have one from 2002 put 60.000 km on it and stille runs great. Only waterpump, clutch and valve rocker bearings are replaced on the engine. That's all. But at my age now the vibrations are killing me. Good bike.....
Hi Jos Thanks for comments, that's interesting to know about waterpump, clutch and valve rocker bearings. Mine has done 37500 miles but not by me as I recently bought it and not ridden it much, and not at all off-road. It's very lively compared to my previous suzuki dr650 and yamaha xt600e, in a different league really. I found the vibes bad at first but as the engine warms up they seem to be less noticeable, 60mph is bad, 75mph is good. Balance for a tell bike is exceptional. As far as maintenance I've done the exhaust valve gasket, changed oil and filters which isn't too difficult really. I'm looking forward to getting some miles on it on and off road, its seems to be one of the few bikes that are built to go anywhere. Enjoy mate😀
Hi Thanks. Yes they are great bikes. It was for sale but not been relisted. The more I ride it the more I like it. Great power as you would expect from a ktm
I'm sure you're kawasaki klr650 doesn't walk around the garden on its centre stand when you rev it, this bike did! Wouldn't personally have another, the vibes are a real problem, and reliability questionable.
@@simonwyatt6453 I had a choice between this KTM 640 and the KLR650, I was advised by a friend who owned one to think twice because of lack of parts, so took the KLR650, but the KLR is a bit of a slouch, doesn't offer much, but is reliable, I'm in the process of selling it, getting a bit sick of old model bikes
I wouldn't personally advise buying one, I found it to be unreliable, yes parts are very scarce. I would stick with you're klr650, the ktm was very powerful but it won't last like you're klr will. Good luck with you're search if you decide to sell it.
Hi They are a great bike, also I would recommend looking for a post 1996 dr650, they are not as good as the ktm 640 for power or suspension but they are so reliable, they also can be molded with suspension and engine.
great tip for the side stand ☝

What side stand (kickstand) is that? Generic perhaps?
@rippinrogers hi
If I remember correctly it had been welded on by a previous owner.
Just bought a 99. I'm in love. Sold a Harley to get.
Congratulations, they are certainly entertaining to ride, enjoy🖐
Sounds almost identical to my 05' Klr650

Thought they went to dual front disk in 05?
Hi
Yes you are correct, its been removed by the previous owner.
Probably for weight purposes.
King
that left hand side view port oil looks dodgy?
Hi
Please explain why it looks dodgy?
Hi Simon, is your bike for sale?
Man I hate this registration tables that look like for car, thank Gor here in Slovenia we have the small one
Yes I know what you mean, very easy to break, agree they look ugly on most bikes, but that's the law here so we have to stick to it.
@@simonwyatt6453 I know man law is law.I had Ktm sc 620 and lc4 640sm,now at end of year I’m thinking about buying something like this,Adventure!
