Titan, this has got to be my favorite video of yours so far - and there are many contenders! There's so many things I genuinely like about both the music and the video... where do I even begin?! Okay, well, the music first - I love that quick, yet gentle fade-in, as the camera pans up from the ground, as well - like you've just been left face-down in in the middle of a snowdrift, and now it's just you and the isolated path that lies ahead. That steady, driving 8th note rhythm in the bass is just perfect, and really sets a driving tempo for the piece. It also makes the part at 0:33 that much more impactful, when the rhythm changes for a few measures before resuming the original bassline. The chimes sound so crystalline and have that classic "SNES ice-themed level" sound, which just takes me completely back to that era of VGM. They sound so cool and refreshing, and although I'm not a huge fan of winter irl, the atmosphere it creates sort of makes me want to go exploring in a frozen-over snowscape, like what you've shown in the video... well, for a little while, anyway. 😅 I like being warm. And that percussion is so good! I love how the kick has that ultra-modern sort of warped-click sound, and the snare is really unique, in the way it sounds sort of filtered or dampened a bit. The hi-hat rhythm is dope, and I love how the rhythm is constantly changing up, and how it works beautifully in tandem with that industrial-sounding percussive instrument first heard at 0:06. which is kinda like a factory hammer or something (I'm thinking particularly of Smithy's factory in Super Mario RPG). And the way the hi hat mixes up the fills and 16th notes just keeps the song lively all the way through. I like that snappy ending, by the way, with that drum fill to bring things to a close. I'd be remiss if I didn't mention those synth chords, and it almost sounds a bit like a choir at some points, too; it gives the song a really majestic, yet intense feel, and it's perfect for a wintery mix. And dude, that transition at 1:07 into those pointed cymbal crashes - so good! I could listen to that part alone on repeat for minutes on end. Seriously, this song is loaded with details, and it's abundantly clear that a ton of time and effort went into polishing the piece and making it sound as sick as it is. Not that your other songs aren't filled with sound gems themselves, but this one in particular really has everything going for it, never sounding sparse, nor muddy. And let me just say, I freaking love the video that you used for this remix! Between the video footage and the pictures, it really sets the scene for the wintery environment the blue guy himself had to trudge through. I've actually not played Megaman X4... well, actually, that's not true. I played it when I was way younger, and I kept dying on the first level, with the train scene, and I just got frustrated and never gave it another chance. 😑 I seriously need to go back and replay it! But yeah, past failures aside, I also thoroughly enjoyed reading the description, and seeing your inspiration and thoughts behind the video and music. I love me some TH-cam, as well, but I totally get you - going for long solo walks and just getting the chance to be away from screens and the other nonsense is so liberating sometimes! Really, Titan, this was an awesome video, and this is THE song I want on repeat when we finally get snow here (in New Jersey) and I get the opportunity to go for a nice long winter trek. Thanks, man! ❄
Glad you enjoyed it Equalyze!! To answer your first comment - it's all fake!! I'm not actually alone in the wilderness here, there's always a bunch of people around. And I have to stop filming or awkwardly film something off to the side 🤣. Can't complain though, it's always good to see people out and about enjoying the weather - from a safe distance of course! The chime sound needed to sound right. The whole feel of the track is supposed to be a winter setting so I made sure not to stray too far away from that classic SNES chime sound. Using a piano or something more traditional wouldn't really mix well imo. Glad you picked up on that! I used to hate the winter when I was younger. It was always so depressing and dreary. But I guess I've learned to just bundle up properly and just continue enjoying the season. Sure I love summer and the warm air but winter has its own beauty. I feel like I've been enjoying it more so now that I'm forcing myself to go for these walks. No excuse not to go for one, unless it's detrimental to my health! I honestly think you should review music man, you have an ear for it. I had no idea you'd be able to pick up on all of the little things going on in the track! I mean don't get me wrong I appreciate people enjoying the music for what it is, but to get a comment so detailed like that just makes it so much better!! And those synth chords are actually some weird choir sounds I found. I was thinking they'd probably ruin the feel of the track ( especially at 1:07!) But it's good to know they created a "majestic" feel to the track. Oh and I get what you mean about X4, it's a pretty tough game and it can actually be very frustrating lol. But it's a great platformer to play if you ever have the time. In fact I'd probably just watch a quick speedrun of it to get an idea of the game. These walks have done wonders for me man, I just love the idea of going on a little journey and enjoying the sights and sounds around me. I wish I recorded these areas in the summer / fall / spring . Seeing how different the areas are in the 4 seasons is actually really amazing. I never knew how different the environment feels when a little snow or sunshine hits. Ill probably continue to upload footage from these walks and maybe I'll do a longform one without any music. Just me walking aimlessly! Finally if you do get around to go for a long winter trek - be safe! Slipping on ice, getting frostbite, even sliding around a little can mess up your ankle. Walking in the winter is amazing but it's very easy to get hurt. Thanks for checking out the video Equalyze, I sincerely enjoy these long comments, they're like a mini review of the track and I love reading them! 💎
