Just a correction from a US Army and OIF veteran. A NCO means a non-commissioned officer (enlisted). There is always a commanding officer and a XO or an executive officer and then the NCOs and junior enlisted.
The officer should had already known that you don't salute in an active combat area.And I guess Pvt Butz ended up getting the finger,,lol.i had to go through a couple of those exams when I was in the Army,,let's just say it was over & done with quickly.
