Rimuru lets them go and invites them because he wants to learn more about their village that was attacked because he has his own village to protect. Add on the sleep and non-lethal attacks used against the goblins. That little extra motivation of having a village he wants to protect makes his decision to invite them to talk make so much more sense. Normal anime stories only have the well it wasn't lethal and was a misunderstanding. The village and villagers of the show add believable stakes for the OP MC.
It's funny enough how he put the big man to sleep, he did with the woman quite lightly, just tying her up, but he hit the next man so hard that he stuck in a tree😅
Ogres in Japan are basically horned monster that are descended from demons and are usually proceed as a warrior clan. Like how Kaido in One Piece looked like in his Hybrid form. They they also reside under the Oni category. Which are any demon like monsters from Japanese mythology. Like the vampiric demons from the anime Demon Slayer. Orcs on the other hand are usually just humanoid pig people with insatiable appetites.
