How generous was this woman - she most likely did not feel 100% at this point but she completely gave herself to this channel and to us for this tutorial. We miss Melanie so much❤️
Thank you for this tutorial! I have a small antique quilt, a little stained from age and storing, but still usable that has this tying on it. I always wondered about it and imagine it was the main way quilts were secured by hand a long time ago. I decided to get it out of storage and use it out of respect for whoever took the time to lovingly make it. Thank you for illustrating the process. Someday, I may check out your 'Your First Quilt' series and try one of my own.
I have watched several tutorials on hand-tying a quilt, I like your method of going into the quilt two times so if the knot ever came undone, you could still recover it...phew! I have heard of machine tacking, just forgot about it, there are applications where I would prefer doing that as well. Thanks again Melanie.
Hi Melanie! I'm a big fan of you and your work. You've been and you continue to be so helpful in my crochet journey! Thank you so much for being amazing and helping me learn something new ❤️💙❤️💛💓💗
Hi Melanie! thank you so much for this tutorial! I love quilting but I never had the courage to start to make it… I think I will do it this weekend! Let's go! :) Stay safe! kisses ;)
OMG! I asked and you answered! Thank you so much for this tutorial, it was very helpful. I will send you a picture when I finish my quilt. It might take me a while though!
I'm so excited. With all that is going on I see Missouri Star is sold out and orders are a bit behind. I'll do one hand tied in the house until things even out. Thanks!
I made mine by taking to lengths of yarn, find the centre, bar tacked the yarn to the quilt- tied and snipped to the length you want. Use top thread same colour as yarn and bobbin same colour as back 👍
Good tutorial!! Thanks, and I love the quilt can you show us how to make that pattern, and the fabric is so beautiful!! Thanks and have a blessed day!!
Firstly thank you soo much for this video.. I’ve been watching other videos but hand quilting is something I won’t be able to do.. I have arthritis in my hands.. And I don’t have the right machine or space to do machine quilting.. This looks like an amazing way to it.. Secondly, do you have a video on the quilt design?? It’s beautiful.. Thank you again.. Love from London UK 🥰🥰 Nadia xxx
If hey this is what I do. I don't have a quitting foot so I hand tie. But the batting I use is either old blankets or left over fleece. But thank you for showing this 💜
I'm sooooo happy you made this tutorial! I'm still a bit scared to try my first machine quilted quilt and this is how my grandmother made all of her quilts. I have always wanted to try it!
If you arrive on an other colour like your pink, I presume you will change the thread colour?? Me, I know that machine is more quick but you hand, as you do, is more cuddly, fluffy and it’s what I like cuz I make babies quilt and children! So cuddle, cuddle!! Thanks.
I have just started to quilt and I wanted to know how if I baste the quilt together before I start to tie off the quilt. What weighted batting should I use.
Sarah Watson, her Terrestrial line. This is only 2 fabrics, the grey is Kona Cotton in Ash and the bold print is Epiphyte from the Sarah Watson line ;)
That is a beautiful quilt! Is the cotton thread the same as the cotton crochet thread? The tutorial was very informative. Thanks for sharing! Have a blessed day!
This tutorial was so helpful and I am so excited to get started with the Curvy Log Cabin Quilt Class! I am loving patterned fabric!! where did you get it?
Hi Melanie! I had a quick question. I purchased the juki hzl lb5020 machine and I love it! I am looking into purchasing a walking foot and was wondering if there was one you would recommend to go with that machine? Thanks!
I have a question on one of your previous videos. In your video Easy beginner quilting tutorial with jelly roll. When you trim up the quilt aren't you cutting through your thread you just sewn? And will the top start to come apart? I'm new to quilting and want to do it right. Also doing it by hand. Thanks for anyone's response.
Would it be better to use a flannelette liner inside, instead of the widely used Hobbs batting,..so that you don't have the issue of how far apart to tie/bunching up, etc.? What about using a flannel flat bedsheet? Would that work? I am making a scrappy picnic blanket from all my crumb blocks and was thinking of this more budget friendly...and 'available' option.
Watch Donna Jordan of Jordan Fabric's on youtube; she has a hand tying process where all you see is a 'running' stitch...but no loose ends on the front of the quilt...
I have question that may have been asked a million times but I can’t find a good answer...do you spend much on rotary cutter blades? Mine loose their sharpness so fast. How often do you replace yours Melanie? And do you have any tips on keeping them sharp! Thanks. I love your videos.
I have a weighted blanket (20lbs) that I’m unable to reattach to the removable cover it came with because the ties ripped off. They were really skinny ties and the weight of the blanket pulled them clear off or pulled them too tight to the point that I was unable to undo the knot and had to cut them off. Do you have any recommendations on how to remedy this? Ideally I don’t want to tie them because I’m afraid they’ll become too tight again to undo and elastic/button doesn’t seem like it’ll hold the weighted blanket strong enough.
Melanie Ham Thanks but I’m afraid I won’t be able to find a clip string enough to keep the 20lb blanket attached to the duvet. I think that might work for regular duvet insets but this is a heavy blanket.

I’d love to try this quilting method

@@MelanieHam I hope so! Ahahah! :D
My mom just did this last night. It was so much work she said. I would never try this, but it’s cool and it looks interesting.
It's good to know that it's an option if you should want to ;)

Is the Husqvarna Viking emerald 116 suiable for quilting and doing patterns?
You got me into quilting!
Thank you so much.😀🇵🇱

Thank you for this. I’ll be using this technique on an upcoming project. Could you please share the name of the fabric you used? It’s great!
The print is by Sarah Watson, from her Terrestrial line. This bold print is called Epiphyte and the grey is kona cotton in the color ash ;)

Missing you ❤️
Where can this fabric be purchased?
Does anyone know if you can hand tie a quilt that has minky/cuddle backing?
How do you wash your quilts?
Thanks for posting this Melanie. I’ve always wanted to make a quilt. I m at just try your method of hand tying it.
Hey Melanie.. thinking of you today. Praying that all is going good. Take care ❤️
Is there a way to hide the hand tying so that the yarn can't be seen?

Upholstery thread is very strong, yet still thin, you can find coats and clark brand at Michaels
Hmm... my first thought is some sort of clip or clamp that would be low profile enough not to be in your way while you use the blanket.
MrsB8T Thank you I’ll look into that.

I have been noticing from a few videos back. It may just be in my mind but you look tired these days. Is everything okay?
I can't complain ;) I'm doing ok, you are sweet to ask.
@@MelanieHam glad to hear from you
I had never seen that before, and I am not sure I like it.... 🤢
