    I don't think there is anything under those bricks, except debris! I do wonder if that structure is some kind of a smoker used in the early days to preserve meats.

      That's my guess too a smoker or outdoor oven

    Jeanie, you need a mini chainsaw. They are 4 or 6” and come in pink! I just bought a 6” and can take down branches up to 4”, things my prunes cannot get through.

      I bought one too, mine’s blue. Best purchase ever. Don’t have to wait for the husband to do little jobs. We also got a 12” dewalt battery powered to take down and cut up small tress and branches that fall. Used it today, it was great.

    From the look of the mortar on the back wall of the mystery structure it’s obvious something was up against it when the bricks were laid. Can’t wait to hear what it is, or was. Fascinating! By the way, great aim, Jeannie!

    • @1834RestorationHouse
      @1834RestorationHouse  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Lol! I kind of wish I could have seen it when she hit it. There was another structure out there at one time. The mortar patterns indicate that it was built up against wooden lap siding.

    It's a storm window. I wonder if it would be better to use plexiglass... Just a thought!
    I think that under the bricks there are... more bricks! Useful, though, when you have a whole house to restore!😁

    if happens to an old window, there is still salvaged glass with bubbles and waves available for restore/repair
    perhaps closing shutter when mowing will save glass OR lean plywood or chipboard over important windows when mowing (Did lag bolt come from mower?) laying a window like that on newspaper once in truck will help keep shards from being left in truck (for easier clean-up)
    yes, is reasonable cost to replace glass in that metal frame - a wooden frame would cost more
    when removing trees butting against a structure, if want limited damage to structure, once get to stage you have, you could drill holes 2-3 in. deep in stump and a few roots can see from surface, fill with high concentration salt solution this will help kill it and might be easier to remove when you get time to do it (don't get salt other places it will become a dead zone to grass, etc.)
    of course, at own risk, evaluate your situation and make own decision - your work efforts are great!
    under the pile: since people have tendency in a situation as that to pile stuff on something already existing, maybe a corner stone or brick corner if structure was that wide [or maybe old pump or dumper (scoop looking tub for collecting scraps to give animals) those are great to find maybe it'll be weird and they'll be a ringer under there]

    Bullseye Jeanie!! {lol}. Nice job on clearing up the small trees. I paid $5.00 for a replacement piece of glass about a quarter of your size but I installed it myself so Im sure that was your added expense .The mystery structure is interesting, I do hope you find something among the brick. Blessings.

    Just this week, I managed to break two windows from our garage. I believe they were each 8 x 14 ( more or less), and they cost us $75.00. I would say you got more window than we did for about the same cost. Watching you cut those trees and then taking the limbs to the curb made me envious. In Orlando, we have to cut ours to 3 ft lengths (use to be 4 ft) and then tie them into bundles. The yard waste guys won't even pick anything up if not tied or put into a garbage can. The trunks can go to the curb, but again, small enough to easily be handled. BTW, the trees are supposed to fall away from you 😂.

    • @1834RestorationHouse
      @1834RestorationHouse  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I misjudged how the tree branch would fall. If it were bigger, I would have tied a rope to it.

    • @vickiephilpitt7697
      @vickiephilpitt7697 ปีที่แล้ว

      @1834 Restoration House. It was a good thing the "tree" was a small one (perhaps bushy limb?) as all you got was a mouthful of leaves vs a headfull of hard trunk. 😉

    Mike, you should be undercutting those limbs on the opposite side of the side of your cut so the thing falls straight down without having a strip of bark to make it swing around and hit you. Chainsaw 101.

    Alittle clean up turned into a whole video. Sorry about the window. I say $80 is a fair price. My father was in the glass business and owned a shop for many years. We all had to work there on the weekend as kids. Earned some pocket money that we spent at the corner store. Learned a lot, too. Hope your finals went well. Have a great weekend. 👋❤️🤍💙

    The chainsaw is the fun part. Grinding out the stumps, not so much. I was not happy when the gal at the home center said their 'stump killer' product would take six months to work. I realize you are trying to clear things out at this point, but in the UK they "coppice" trees in woodland areas. This provides fire wood, and stimulates new growth in older trees. Some of the wood can be used to build garden fences, make supports for climbing plants (like trellises), etc., which will be free. They have a rustic look. Bunny Guiness just did a video on this. You'll love how cute they look, Jeanie! Something to think about. My place is about a third of an acre, and I have quite a few fast-growing trees. I plan to get a chipper/shredder at some point so I can make my own mulch. Congrats on the first magnolia! I do think something is under the bricks. Don't we all love secrets?

    I like how Mike detected how the window was broken. IT was like he was an expert on ballistic evidence.🤣😂 I've been home from the beautiful island of Oahu for 2 weeks now. My husband got a really bad cold and then a week later, I have it now. Yuck. I've been dizzy and all I could think about was when Jeannie felt dizzy when she was suffering. I really love how you both go out on a limb and branch out when you took those trees away from the mystery structure. It's going to look really interesting. Can't WAIT to see what it is. Team work makes the dream work. You guys are a great team. First of all, I don’t remember seeing those pile of bricks before so it’s hard to say if there’s any under them. I think I’ll just wait till you tell us. I’m curious though. Do your yard n waste management pick up all those branches just like they are? Where I live we have to have everything tied up together in piles. Unless we cut the branches smaller n placed in trash cans. If they pick up like they are you guys are really lucky.
    I can’t wait when we find out exactly what that brick area was used for.
    That was amazing how freaky that was Jeannie mowing the yard n that bolt went flying n hitting the storm window. Thank goodness it didn’t hit the original wavey glass window. That would of been heartbreaking.
    Take care of one another n stay well.

    What a truly enjoyable video! Im not sure why, but I don't think I had the mystery structure properly placed in my head. I was surprised to see it was just off the deck (ow was that the camera perspective making it look so close? I had it somehow off to the side of the house, further forward, but it makes more sense for it to be convenient to the rear entrance. I'm back to thinking pump house... Darn! I can't remember what was ruled out when we were all wildly guessing before! 😂
    That was an impressive shot, Jeanie! Even more impressive are your climbing skills - you were all over things unsteady things today with grace and balance and surefootedness. I'd have toppled off and sprained my ankle! 😂
