    I truly believe that if we want to be good gardeners, we have to be patient!! It takes a lot of patience to wait for the seeds to germinate! 😃

    Master gardener Scott...your videos are like no others I have seen ... The easy way you explain different issues and walk people through the steps that need to be taken is just outstanding!! For me this is just the right time to find your channel since I am a new gardener... this is the first year I purchased seeds and even when i started late, I have really embraced this new adventure ... I already purchased some seeds for fall planting.. and watching your videos has given me more encouragement to continue this new adventure.. since I lack areas for planting at this time, I have started planting in pots..
    Thank you for the time you take to guide those who do not know all those little important details and explanations..

    I still have to hold out almost 2 months before thinking about fall planting. If I put seeds in before mid September, it will be still too hot. My first frost date is late December. Can't wait for that cooler weather.

  • @litebkt

    I’ve discovered I can grow all year round with little tube tunnels. My most difficult time of year is mid July to mid September. It gets pretty hot here in the Sierra foothills. Zone 8B. I have to start my seedlings indoors. I’ll try out the burlap. I suspect that way cardboard could also work.

    • @GardenerScott

    I'm just up the road from you and I put my seeds in the ground last week ( ̄▽ ̄)b (I think we tend to get our first frost a bit sooner, bc we're at a slightly higher altitude). Also made some hoops, and I'm trying out some spare window screen to cover them, for the sun but also to block some of the rain and hail so they won't move the seeds around or splash them right out of the bed! Seems to be working pretty well so far.

    I have a a maggot problem in my compost. I'm pretty sure they came from the old stinky broccoli plants I just added to the pile where the flies love to lay there eggs. Will they disappear as their food source breaks down and decomposes? I don't put any meat in the pile. I did just add some grass clippings to try and heat up the pile to toast them.

    • @GardenerScott
      @GardenerScott  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They'll disappear as they age and turn into flies. Turning the pile will disrupt them.

    • @GardenerScott
      @GardenerScott  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There really isn't much difference between the seeds. The organic seeds were produced by a certified organic grower. The plants that grow from either will look the same and grow the same.

    • @LifesAProject
      @LifesAProject 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@GardenerScott Yes, that is what I hear. But I never really get a good answer about if organic seeds produce a fruit or vegetable that is healthy for you because the organic seeds are grown without the use of synthetic pesticides, herbicides and synthetic fertilizers.

    • @doloresreynolds8145
      @doloresreynolds8145 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Organic seeds are important if you’re going to be eating them as seed sprouts. Some seeds, like corn seed, come treated with a type of poison to keep ants and fungus from getting the seeds (birds don’t like them either) if you don’t get either untreated or organic seed. Other seeds don’t get treated at the manufacturer. It depends what problems those particular plants/seeds are susceptible to.

    Hi Gardener Scott, is there anything to watch out for when using mushroom compost as an amendment? I’ve heard it can be somewhat nutrient deficient and may contain an abundance of salt and possibly pesticides depending on where it came from.

    • @GardenerScott
      @GardenerScott  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      HI, Nick. The compost I use is a blend similar to what is used to grow mushrooms in and not the remains of mushroom growing medium. Re-used compost after growing mushrooms can be deficient in nutrients, but still has organic material. If salts and/or pesticides were used, it may not be a good choice in the garden.

      Honestly, if you don't have the patience to watch his video, then you probably don't have the patience to effectively garden, either. There is a very good reason why Mother Nature takes advantage of using TIME to allow things to grow and develop. Effective (and efficient) gardening doesn't happen over night. Why should ANY gardening videos not follow the same principles?

My remark was re: when he is actually emptying/filling beds (people should know how to move dirt if they garden or play with it).
