    This shouldn’t be that difficult. You have Amy Adams, you’re halfway home. Just give us a plot with a conflict, have our character learn a lesson, and a happy ending. Boom. Done.

      @@doc8013 well, the point I was trying to make was, if you have a 2x golden globe winner and 6 time academy award nominee, it shouldn’t be too difficult to create a movie that people want to watch if the character motivation is clearly thought out. I think Hollywood tends to overcomplicate things.

      That’s actually the go to movie I use for reference as to why Tracy Letts doesn’t understand film. It’s one of the most incredible plays I’ve ever seen, but I just don’t think he has a clue how to adapt to film. He likes things incredibly restrained to one setting, which works on stage, but often falls flat on film. In my opinion, he’s yet to write a screenplay that justifies why it needs to be on film instead of the stage.
      Y’all can think otherwise, but his films consistently fall short of grabbing an audiences attention. The financial returns on his films speak volumes. His plays, however, have been very success both financially and critically.

    Don’t know if anyone has pointed this out but her front door camera could’ve been a point of reference for the police or justify the meeting of “Jane number 1” ect which would’ve made the rest of the story obsolete. And ofc this device wasn’t mentioned in the book that’s why the story worked there. But here we were given a mounted recording device for free so..hmm

    This movie wasn’t as dry as you make it. It’s not The Godfather. But it is a good afternoon matinee movie. The cast was ok and I think you might be shocked by its performance in the end.

    I think another aspect of how Wyatt Russell got the gig on Falcon And The Winter Soldier is because this movie is originally from 20th Century Studios, it was being filmed and produced before the buyout so when Disney acquired the studio, they must have definitely seen him in this movie and thought of bringing him into the fold, same case with Brian Tyree Henry who will be in Eternals. And we know that Disney is hugely loyal to its actors and crew.

    Joe Wright, Tracy Letts, Amy Adams, Julianne Moore, Gary Oldman, Anthony Mackie, Jennifer Jason Leigh... It always surprises me when such big, talented people working together can't save an ill conceived movie.

    • @jvanness90
      @jvanness90 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You’re as strong as your weakest link. Tracy Letts wrote a bad script. He’s consistently written bad scripts for films. When your weak link is the writer there’s no real saving the film

      For me Amy wasn't that bad, surely she couldn't save the movie but her performance was probably the best part of the film, Wright's direction was a bit flat but still ok, and they kinda wasted Gary Oldman, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Julianne Moore sadly 😔

    Hmmm i disagree about Letts not being able to write a good film adaptation. Killer Joe and Bug, both adapted from his own plays and both directed by William Friedkin, are fantastic adaptations. Especially Killer Joe.
    I do agree that August Osage County was a big let down from the play though, but I think half the blame goes to director John Wells there.

    It's just unfortunate timing-wise that this was made a while ago but coming out now right after Hillbilly Elegy so now Amy Adams has two stinkers in a row. It's not easy adapting these successful thriller novels. Gone Girl was the most recent success but this and The Girl on the Train both were let downs.
