    Update 10/04/2022 well it looks like the bearing is getting noisy in the tensioner pulley .The question is can the wheel itself be changed or do you have to replace the whole tensioner arm?

    Hello Willem, what brand was the tensioner that failed? I bought a WAG one, but now I think I should perhaps just leave the original.... Thanks

      It was actually a VW original that I put in previously...

    Did you have any problems with the belt afterwards or the issue is solved for good with that?

    Is the V belt and the timing belt, the same, my car's V belt snapped but the car could still start but it showed the car not charging

      No the poly v belt drives the alternator, power steering pump and AC compressor. The timing belt drives the cam shaft, water pump and diesel pump, is it a toothed belt and is timing sensitive.
      It is wise however if your amarok does not have the cover on the poly v belt to check that no pieces of the poly belt entered the housing protecting the timing belt.
      When the poly belt snapped and the timing belt is still fine and the car runs fine then it should start and you can drive it. However your battery will run flat from the electrics drawing power from it...
      I have with a few trics done abouth 360kms gravel road in Nam with a snapped poly v belt... No alternator, not power steering and no AC... So it can be done. I have however rewired my elctrical system in the back to use my lithium battery to power my ECU so I could keep going. Not really advised to do if you don't know what you are doing, but it is possible...

    Argh, the tensioner pulley ,the demise of many an amarok engine once the serpentine belt finds the timing belt.Mine went through 3 pulleys,belts and an alternator pulley because of the shit quality of the tensioner.My brothers rok blew the engine because of it.This was before the robuster timing belt kit came out.The steel one has now been on mine for two years ,so far so good.

    I have a 2014 Amarok. I replaced the alternator and tensioner but I have a problem with my belt always breaking. Any suggestions?

      Have you replaced the idler as well? Have a good look at all the pulleys and try to see where the belt gets its damage from with regular inspections. Also are you using dealership parts or alternative aftermarket? I've had a bad experience with aftermarket belt and are now back to dealer supplied parts...

    Did you study mechanics? Geez you are very knowledgeable

      I studied mechanical engineering for 3 years before I switched over and graduated as a civil engineer... So I have done my fair share... The mechanic part I learned from an early age as I grew up on a farm where my dad did all the mechanical maintenance himself... As for the rest, I try and stay current and learn everyday because I enjoy it...

    I'm surprised that the German engineers envisioned the removal of the engine mount to fit one F'ing bolt.

    • @willemtreurnicht3818
      @willemtreurnicht3818  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well they didn't really, that's why there's different torque specs for the bolt for when you re-use it...
      But I get your point, it's unfortunately just one of those bolts.
