The Dao De Jing is my favorite book. I've read it over 30 times. It has so much to offer the world. I feel like it is a compilation of all the ancient Chinese wisdom. It really has helped me become a more serene, and resilient person; a more complete person.

I read some of the Dao De Jing when I was younger while learning about tai chi. This is a great video that takes us back thousands of years ago. Very well done.

Beautiful story and acting...thank you for sharing this! I just finished reading the Dao de jing here as a Chinese American. It is changing the way I think about my life thousands of years after it was written. Thank you Master Lao Tzu!

Chinese all over the world ought to feel proud of what this true roots of a civilization is. That is why the Chinese is the embodiment of all essences of culture and value that made them so successful and indomitable. The Western and Europeans had better learn from the Chinese to see the world in a more humane perspective and not live for greed and power.

"I ain't got whole day! Come on, Consciousness! .. begin!" ... this person wanted to experience and acquire Consciousness so she sat in the lotus posture and held her asana, closed her eyes and drifted in the supposedly meditative state which can induce the experience of Consciousness. Then, .. just like you, I guess, ... "I ain't got whole day! .."
This segment did explained every aspect of Dao if you only watch to the end. Do you have knowledge in the Hindu Dharma or the similar Buddhist Dharma and Samsara? Dao is the same, the Origin of all things and the External Laws for Humanity. It never ends and in Samsara, the cycle of origin and beginning or cycle of life and death (rebirth and reincarnates).

The Daoism or the way. It means know the way or the path or the leader or temple long time ago in Chinese culture those who knows Dao or the way of nature operate or the universe energy..it is like water, it is nourishing everything under heave, it is the force, the name, I don't know, so i called it Dao...laotzu wasn't the creator of Dao, he wrote the Dao de jing... Daoism in China has many sects, so are corrupted by superstitions but not real wisdom/ phenomena, just belief is not reality. Chinese Chan is based on Dao or it is called Zen in Japanese. Without Tao, there is no guide to understand our lives here or nature. I hope china encourage more people read it.
My favourite Daoist is Zhang zi' s commentary on the Dao, it is more pure.

Where did Laozi say: "Let them enjoy their food, beautify their clothing, be satisified with their homes and delight in their customs"? Moreover, this is an incredibly simplistic response to the question "What is it like 2,500 years in the future?" Is the purpose of the former quote to suggest contentment and finding joy and contentment with everyday life? If so, it is in line with Taoist philosophy; if advocating for a materialistic view of life, it is far from this philosophy. In fact, it is the antithesis.

Well, it's all in modern mandarin, so...
Would love to see in classical (middle?) Chinese. Many syllable Endings (-k, -p, etc).
English: "The tao that can be told is not the eternal Tao."
Mandarin (Chinese): "道可道非常道" (Dào kě dào fēi cháng dào)
Middle chinese: (daw kha daw pje zjang daw)

Middle Chinese: Phrase: 心有餘而力不足 Pronunciation: sim jɨu jɨo nɨa lɨik bɨut sɨuo Meaning: The heart is willing, but the strength is insufficient
Old Chinese: Phrase: 氣願而力不足 Pronunciation: *kʰjəʔ ɢʷa[n]-s ʔəʔ lək pək-suk Meaning: The will is there, but the strength is insufficient

In this tradition one does not hand out the answer.
Western thinking wants to reach "conclusions", which literally means closure. It wants to close the subject from further thinking. Western thinking is mostly about handing over conclusions, answers. Answers are based on reasoning. Reasoning is basically extending existing answers into new answers, "reaching" conclusions. It is like extending your arm to grab a fruit. Western thinking is goal-directed thinking. It is based on fulfilling desire. When it grabs one thing, it eats it, then it wants the next thing in endless repetition. It reaches for ever higher fruit.
No matter how much one acquires it is never enough. Look at the US, a country build on its greed. The richest country in the world. Americans are four times more affluent than the world average. Still it is not enough. Robbing and killing the natives was not enough. They needed to go abroad to rob and steal more. Even when billions live in poverty through their ruthless exploitation, they still need more. They have their import for free, they own 60% of all companies in the world in $. They swim in dollars. Their rich keep tens of trillions in trusts, tax free, It is not enough. They eat more and the hunger only grows.
What does the seeker find? And what does the finder seek? Those who embrace questions become masters, those who embrace answers become slaves.
The Chinese think that East and West can learn from each other. This raises questions. What does the blind man see? What does the deaf man hear? How come one so rich still needs to steal? How come one so mighty still needs dirty tricks? How come one so full of his own self-righteousness can not afford the truth? How to fill a full pot? How to empty an empty pot? Why does the slayer feel victim? Why does the one so full of himself feel so empty? Why does the one empty of himself feel so full?
We need to ponder on these questions
