This song is really part of a 3 song Trifecta.. "Harvester Of Eyes"/"Flaming Telepaths"/"Astronomy", as the songs run together without interruption, or space between, experienced by listening to the Vinyl Record. The way it was intended.
Blue Oyster Cults best album Secret Treaties ! If you liked the solo on Flaming Telepaths try Then Came the Last days of May off their On Your Feet or on Your Knees album .Great song also !
No, it isn't. You're just another robot who can't think for yourself, so you blindly spew the nonsense other robots spew. Other than Flamin and Astronomy, the songs on ST are average to mediocre.
Dude, you absolutely can't go wrong with the amazing Blue Oyster Cult. There's so much great music to listen to. It's a deep deep rabbit hole but if you dive in, I can already tell you won't regret it.
BOC has one of the deepest catalogs of great music of any of the classic bands. Although they're mainly known for 3 songs, Reaper, Godzilla and Burning for You. Even their recent stuff is excellent. Hard to pick a favorite, but Astronomy and Veteran of Psychic Wars are two I always come back to.
You don't need to believe that. It was intended to be the Imaginos concept album by Sandy Pearlman. The band members did not want it marketed that way, but every single track on Secret Treaties is part of the Imaginos saga. Some tracks from BÖC's first two albums are also related to Imaginos. Albert Bouchard revealed this in a BÕC forum several years ago. He named the songs. Recently he produced a three album series about Imaginos that includes all of the songs. You can hear the albums here on Yoilutube on Albert's channel.
Three years ago during the pandemic lockdowns....I still remember the night I heard it with astronomy after and I was convinced I discovered a great band a bit late but better late than ever.
💯 Is a matter of fact, I think the "Flaming Telepaths/Astronomy" duo, from Secret Treaties, has been their greatest 1-2 punch in their 50 year history. Congratulations on getting introduced to them via that 1-2 punch.
I prefer to think of the triple play of Harvester Of Eyes, Flaming Telepaths and Astronomy. These three run into each other on the album and all three are fantastic. Stay Cool 😎 and… \m/ Stay Metal \m/
A very underrated album that must be listened to start to finish. Catchy grooves and lyrics you can’t get out of your head. Will never recognize R&R HOF until BOC is in it.
Thank you Tee! This is one of my all time favorite BOC tunes. And one of the best lyrics ever, "is it any wonder that my minds on fire, imprisoned by the thought of what to do." Theres a bit of alchemy in this. And yes, the amazing solos!
@TheAdventuresofTNT and this was 1974! BOC is SO good. If you haven't heard veterans of the psychic wars or the last days of may, please check them out.
I just wanted to say that Judas Priest had no metal bands to be inspired by whenever they were creating their music kind of not knowing what they were going to be and they didn't release their first album until 1976 but in 1975 they got to perform on a show in England of possible up-and-coming groups they had no money they had the constantly work crappy jobs and they actually performed what I think is one of the greatest live performances of all time and that live performance of the song dreamer deceiver from 1975 is not only one of the the most awesome live performance in My Mind by that group but that version of the song is so much better than the studio version that came out a year later and the way they performed that live with the lead singer just staring right into the camera lens it gives me chills now man it really does. I hope you at least one day watch it on your own if not doing a reaction video to it
I think Flaming Telepaths has a far deeper meaning that's part of Sandy Pearlmans concept of the soft doctrines of Imaginos, in which a group of aliens from the Dog Star Sirius known as the Blue Oyster Cult led by one Desdenova attempt contact with a human telepathically thus the 'Flaming Telepaths'. It connects to Astronomy, Harvester of Eyes and some other early songs.
The song from the Imaginos album, "Magna of Illusion," speaks about how the aliens were able to telepathically influence Europeans to go to war with each other. The result was World War I. This song characterizes the corrupting influence of these telepathic transmissions on unsuspexting humans. It's described as a drug injections, but the effect is believing lies and acting on them.
Many, many of Blue Öyster Cult songs are based on lyrics written and guided by their late director, Sandy Pearlman. He has injected an entire fictional universe into a lot of the band's earlier works. The "Soft Doctrines of Imaginos" are an ENTIRE rabbit hole, if you're willing to go down it. Suffice to say, this song goes far deeper than drug addiction. Its placement on the album is no mistake, and pay attention to the amount of times they repeat "the joke's on you" at the end -- and then listen to the song "Astronomy," which comes directly after. I've listened to this song so many times, and it's never stopped blowing my mind.
This is my favorite band. Started listening when I was 9. I have so many bootlegs from that era. Been collecting for 40 years. Good times. Listen to Cagey Cretins. Funny and weird. Then Came The Last Days Of May. . Monsters. Fallen Angel. A lot of good songs. Be My Baby Cover (Highly Recommend as a reaction video) Very Eclectic band. Never did what any one else was doing. B.O.C is the only band I ever found that ever album is nothing like the albums before it. All the Albums have no songs that ever sound like any other song on That particular album. BTW, the only album where all 5 of the members sing is Agents Of Fortune. The keyboardist sings True Confessions. Only lead vocal he ever did. Get all their albums through '95 and you wont be disappointed.
Favorite BOC song: The last one I listened to. Drug addiction is a good interpretation, but I think it's about a mad scientist who has been experimenting on himself. (too many times),
I'm a big BOC fan, I saw them live in a small venue in Lexington, Ky. back in 1994, they sounded good, an they played about two hours, good show. Check out Burnin for you, Don't Fear the reaper(my favorite), Veteran of the Psychic Wars, and Cities in Flames
One of my favorites from their earlier era! You can't go wrong with any of their first three albums for deep cuts that only true BOC fans prefer. Try something from the live album: On Your Feet Or On Your Knees!!
Absolutely. Wish SOMEone would do "Hot Rails To Hell" from OYFOOYK. Not only do we get the signature piece from Joe, IMO, Buck's CLOSING solo on that is one of his greatest.
i saw blue oyster cult play a free show at south park amphitheater in pennsylvania. my favorite blue oyster cult song is then came the last days of may, and they jammed the fuck out on it! it's about a 3 minute song but live it was over 10 minutes, and that made my night!
IT WAS GONNA GO RIGHT INTO ( ASTRONOMY ) 😊YEAH T, THAT WHOLE ALBUM ( SECRET TREATIES ) IS FIRE 💯 DOMINANCE AND SUBMISSION, CAREER OF EVIL, CAGEY CRETINS 😊THIS ALBUM WAS RIGHT BEFORE ( AGENTS OF FORTUNE ) TAKE CARE MAN 👍
"Is it any wonder that my joke's a knife/ and the joke's on you". Secret Treaties is the one the best rock albums ever! When I saw them perform Flaming Telepaths live in the 70s, it was like they were hypnotizing the audience and when the outro came with "and the joke's on you..." it really seemed as if they were casting a spell on the audience. One of the absolute best concerts I ever saw.
This is the first video of yours I've watched. And I've subscribed. I love BÖC. And you've described Flaming Telepaths better than any other You Tuber I've heard !
They are fire now, aren't they? 🔥 They are known by the general public for those hits you mentioned in your intro but they have tons of great deep cuts like this, their 70s & 80s output is pure gold. From the same album, try ETI, another BOC banger. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎸🎹🎶
There is an overarching concept to nearly all BOC lyrics, from the mind of their mentor/producer Sandy Pearlman. It’s a vague, rambling sci-fi narrative in which malevolent alien forces manipulate individuals to effect human history. It makes assessing their lyrics REALLY difficult…they are often powerfully evocative and seemingly meaningless at the same time. Your take on the first verse being about drug addiction is correct, but the 2nd verse gives it that weird context…I think this song is a forerunner of “Veteran Of The Psychic Wars”, from a few albums later.
I am a big fan of Blue Oyster Cult I hope that you will get to listen to Take Me Away. I'm also a big fan of Judas Priest and take me away by Blue Oyster Cult is a kick-ass song
Probably my favorite BoC song but the version I really love is when they re recorded for the "Classic Cult" album (I know blasphemy from all the hard core BoC fans here)
So glad you did this one. GREAT choice, Lance! This one epitomizes their black & white era. Too bad you can't capture their iconic song transitions from their first 3 releases. And I'm sure you can tell the vocal differences between their many commercial hits(usually Buck's vocals), versus the way harder-edged vocals of Eric's. Editing: Yeah, your favorite, "Subhuman", is of course, ala Eric.
I'd like to recommend another song by Blue Öyster Cult. Please, please, check out "The red and the black" off of their live album ETI Live (Extra terrestrial intelligence live). SOOO GOOD!! Or "I love the night" off of the "Spectres" album. I absolutely LOVE THIS BAND!! ❤🎶👂🙂👍
You should give the whole album a listen. Secret Treaties is meant to be listened to all in one go. Each song flows into the next and they all tell a story.
I love BOC, almost every album you listen is a master piece, I love their rock & roll creepy and dissonant sound. BOC debut album is the perfect opening for what's to come, Fire of unknown origin is the most psychedelic but pleasently performed album, tiranny and mutation goes hard as hell, agents of fortune is the one with the most catchy tunes, specters feels the last album you'll ever listen to - very spooky and mysterious like death itself, cultosaurus erectus was the start of a new but cool era on their sound, and the top of the cake is secret treaties which is epic!!! If you want to check another song, maybe you'd like The golden age of leather, from specters. An epic song
Dominance Submission always got the highest volume in my car😊.....whole album is about govt. mind control..sublime...just creeps into your mind unknowingly..until..oh shit happens..😮😮
Well I've opened up my veins too many times And the poison's in my heart and in my mind Poison's in my bloodstream Poison's in my pride I'm after rebellion ..... I'll settle for lies. ⚰️ ♠️
Donald " Buck Dharma" Roeser is one of the most underrated guitarists, and doesn't get the credit he deserves. His tone and playing are phenomenal.
True. The same can be said of BÖC overall. The original lineup is the greatest collection of American musicians in my opinion.
so fast, too!
This song is really part of a 3 song Trifecta.. "Harvester Of Eyes"/"Flaming Telepaths"/"Astronomy", as the songs run together without interruption, or space between, experienced by listening to the Vinyl Record. The way it was intended.
You got it...yeah baby. 😅😅
Blue Oyster Cults best album Secret Treaties ! If you liked the solo on Flaming Telepaths try Then Came the Last days of May off their On Your Feet or on Your Knees album .Great song also !
Yeah, back in the 70s, I wore out my bean-bag chair and headphones to his solo on that one.
No, it isn't. You're just another robot who can't think for yourself, so you blindly spew the nonsense other robots spew. Other than Flamin and Astronomy, the songs on ST are average to mediocre.
Blue Oyster Cult will always be
My favorite band
They are amazing musicians
Thank You So much

Hard to pick a favorite, but Astronomy and Veteran of Psychic Wars are two I always come back to.
was lucky enough to have seen them back in the mid 70s. they were fantastic. Buck Dharma is a very underrated guitar player.
My belief is that "Secret Treaties," was a concept album in which all the songs are intertwined. One song leads to another.
You don't need to believe that. It was intended to be the Imaginos concept album by Sandy Pearlman. The band members did not want it marketed that way, but every single track on Secret Treaties is part of the Imaginos saga.

It's never too late! Discovering BOC at any point in one's life is like finding God.
I prefer to think of the triple play of Harvester Of Eyes, Flaming Telepaths and Astronomy. These three run into each other on the album and all three are fantastic.

Veteran of the Psychic Wars will always be my favorite Blue Oyster Cult song

Sometimes I can't get that song out of my head.
@@sspaay the BOC song Take Me Away or Dreamer Deceiver Live by Judas Priest?
Their first 3 LPs are best heard straight through. a lot of the tracks are connected.
With 'BOC" you can always count on at least one smoking hot guitar solo, from the very capable (while under appreciated... IMO) Buck Dharma
The Bouchard brothers are from clayton NY. And yes i'm from there.
Favorite BOC song: The last one I listened to.
Drug addiction is a good interpretation, but I think it's about a mad scientist who has been experimenting on himself. (too many times),
Yes, it is this, because Sandy Perlman often talk about the scientifico world.
That whole album rocks. In my top five 70s albums.
If you haven't already, you might want to check out a tune called "The Vigil"
The Vigil could be their best song. It's in a tie with a few others, but it's definitely near the top of the list.
Too difficult to pick a favorite BÖC song. They had so many great songs. Just when you think you’ve nailed it down, you think of another.
One of my favorites from their earlier era! You can't go wrong with any of their first three albums for deep cuts that only true BOC fans prefer. Try something from the live album: On Your Feet Or On Your Knees!!

"Subhuman" off On Your Feet or On Your Knees is pure musical bliss.
To me 7 Screaming Diz-Busters is the highlight of that one. Buck is absolutely Sub Human on that one.
Love this song. One of my favorite guitar bridges . Superb crescendo.
i saw blue oyster cult play a free show at south park amphitheater in pennsylvania. my favorite blue oyster cult song is then came the last days of may, and they jammed the fuck out on it! it's about a 3 minute song but live it was over 10 minutes, and that made my night!

One of the great hard rock albums of the 70's, and certainly my favorite American one, Secret Treaties. BOC, the pride of Stony Brook U, LI NY!
On Your Feet Or On Your Knees. Showcases their first 3 albums LIVE. The grooves are awesome.
Best live album. Period.
I think you're now ready for the studio version of "Hot Rails To Hell."
Shortest rock band in history, but giants in R&R history!
buck dharma barely reaches 5'2". He is also Jimmy Page's favorite guitarist!!
My fav BOC album 💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥

this band is originaly from upstate ny. were im from.not many people have herd this song.
Bouchard brothers were. Buck Dharma from Long Island, Bloom and Lanier from NYC
This album is 1 of the most influential of the 70s,imo,even it's so underrated.
I think you should listen to "She's As Beautiful As A Foot" from BOC's first album.
Right there with you on that.
Also 'Workshop of the Telescopes' and 'Redeemed' from the debut, 'Baby Ice Dog' and 'Wings Wetted Down' from Tyranny.
Also excellent. So many superior choices
Definitely, a deep cut. 👍
'black blade' is a good one

BÖC's music (until the Bouchard brother were squeezed out) always had a hint of the esoteric.
No one squeezed Joe.
BÖC is my favorite band. But they were never the same once Albert departed.

If you make the music a little abstract this could be a Zappa song, also On Your feet or on your knees
TH-cam won’t let reactors play Zappa or atleast his estate. I believe they block or copyright strikes reactors.
On your feet or on your knees, is a B.O.C. tune not Zappa
Lance is the man.
Stick close to him with Blue Oyster Cult.
He knows Death Valley Nights.
Of all the BÖC music that I've listened to this one has kinda hung with me. Long ago I would incorporate "Flaming Telepaths," into my online monikers.
Good One!
Suggest-- lips in the hills; I am the storm ; or The Vigil
TNT listen to "Heavy Metal Black and Silver" by BOC one of their best songs.
Buck Dharma always drops it into Arab mode.
Dominance Submission always got the highest volume in my car😊.....whole album is about govt. mind control..sublime...just creeps into your mind unknowingly..until..oh shit happens..😮😮
Addiction to drugs, or reality itself?
yeah! subhuman! great freakin tune!
If you like Subhuman try Subhuman from the Imaginos album
