@@floydndaisy you have no idea! Firstly the song embodies the Kiwi attitude. (And I'm a naturalized Kiwi.) Then I learned that Tim wrote it about his 6 months coping with a nervous breakdown. Absolutely an emotional roller coaster of tragedy, sorrow and hope.
@@jorjinawright2141 I really enjoy their music, however I am a bigger fan of Neil’s solo work and work with Crowded House. Not so sure about the Fleetwood Mac thing.
I come to This Song Often, A Sailor, I've Sailed Around The World 3 Times, Seen Most Of it... I find Solace in the Memories Of Being At Sea, with the Vaulted Dome Of Stars on A moonless Sea, or in the Swirling Fairy Glow in the Eddy Currents From the Propellers Endlessly Driven By Two Reactors... Yep Sanctuary. Cheers
Split Enz were part of me growing up in liverpool seen these lads in 70s , then crowded house great times ,they were brilliant at Glastonbury 2022 music keeps you going 🎙
As much as I love Crowded House, Neil Finn's solo stuff and his songwriting, there's something more compelling and special about Eddie Rayner's creative instincts and keyboard wizardry, along with Tim in his comfort zone. Spectacular.
I was at this concert at rod Laver arena, up in the nosebleeds on the left of stage. This and Message to my girl were magical that night. I remember as Eddie Rayner played the keyboard solo at the start the backlighting actually projected his shadows over the crowd at the back of the stadium... such amazingly gifted musicians and songwriters. A magical concert that I was privileged to be able to see. Great memories
I saw Tim a few times in the 90s and every time his voice sounded thrashed; a shadow of its 80s glory. Sounds like, by the time of this concert, he'd really worked hard and got it back in soaring form!
One of my favourite Enz tunes. So much to appreciate in this song. Tim's vocals. Neil's harmonies. I just love Eddie's intro into this song. Kudos to the sound mix. It was amazing to be able to hear Neil's guitar work.
Should be the New Zealand National Anthem. Classic song. If i was ever going to learn the piano this is one of the first things id want to learn, the intro called Pioneer. Just to add that i made a split enz slideshow to one of their songs. To see it simply just type in search bar the following title.......Split Enz Giant Heartbeat Slideshow
Loved them so much (1981?) warm up for Tom Petty? So impressive. I had the first two or three albums and the bought Waiata and then Time and Tide ... did so much for my love of music. Such an amazing band and Tim and Neil together with the rest are truly wonderful.
Didnt know they had re-formed back then .This has to be one of my all time favourite songs . The Finns are masterful composers and possibly NZs best export
Thisis atest .......no need to be so condescending. I grew up with the ‘60’s and ‘70’s “gold” but love a ton of varied music and to this day, I’m discovering artists/bands I missed first time around.
@@gxd4b1 Are you not from New Zealand? I grew up in New Zealand in the 70s and 80s. I remember my dad saying what a bunch of nutters Split Enz were with their crazy costumes. He knew nothing about music and didn’t realise just how talented they were.
Freakin’ Eddie Rayner. Number One Rock/pop pianist.
That piano playing is awsome and Tim can still hit every high note at 70 wow
I love when Tim and Neil perform together. Their harmonies are the best.
Very nice intro and good harmonies, great tune
Crazy as one brother in one band and another in another band
Well they arent the best. Not like the Wilson Brothers.
Ahhhhh.... This brings me back to my youthful 20s! At 65, still makes me so very happy!!! Love all things Finn. Thank you, Peter and Mark.
The intro piano on 6 months in a leaky boat is unreal what a pro
Great. And he can still do it in the same key!
Tim’s voice is forever magic.
The best version of this incredibly beautiful song I have ever heard .. and Tim's voice .. just delicious ... I am a happy man.
Beautiful beginning.
I HAVE JUST DISCOVERED THIS BAND, OH, WHAT A PLEASURE TO LISTEN TO!
Tragedy, sorrow and hope, an emotional roller coaster in 7 minutes. For me this song goes so deep into my soul I can't find the words.
Me, too. I come back to it more than most other songs from that time.
What’s the big deal. They are floating around in a boat with a hole in it.

Much better than i realized!
A veritable human appregiator, amazing!

He's been a favorite of mine for YEARS. His playing has so much whimsy and technical brilliance, too. Love him!

Thse SE classics are like the finest wines. They get better with age. Brilliant.
masterful Rayner...intro and rolling arpeggios...flawless
Beautiful men...none of their songs have the macho swagger...just lovely, evolved men. The best.
Eddie Rayner's smile is just absolutely contagious. Great rendition of a top pop rock song ever written.
TY Mr. Green for posting this! Just replying as I paused the intro.....OMG!!!! .20 and loving it already
What a highly underrated band. Been re-listening to a lot of their stuff, and the musicianship is incredible.

TIMBO!!! The hair is grey, but your PIPES ARE STILL SO HAUNTING!!!
I was listening to the cassette today in my car!!!
What a legend Eddie you are
I watch this at least once a day, just to see the smiles on their faces...especially Eddie.
Brilliant! absolutely a brilliant composition
In the 1980's this is the song that always woke us up on the last morning of a Cruise when I was in the Navy!!!
My favourite Split Entz song!
One of my favourite songs... I have a special relationship with the sea as my aunt worked in a fish and chip shop.
I got to see them in concert in Sydney 2006 - they were unbelievable. One of the best concerts I ever experienced.
Among the best songs of the 20th century
Beautiful piano solo
Love this Split Enz classic. Great music talent. 👌
This melody is amazing!!!! How have I never heard this before!!! Soo Goood!
Love this so much, whistling, awesome keyboard, magical harmonies! What's not to like?!
Some of the first music I purchased as a kid. I sang every word of it over and over..
world class act without a doubt Split Enz one of the best things to come out of NZ. Tim Finn is masterfull.
And yet Australia tries to claim them, lol! Then again most of them moved over there... :'(
what a song and what a performance of it... amazing.. love the ENZ.
Tim's voice!

Holy Cannoli! I forget how great these guys are!

My favourite Sea Shanty EVER!
Amazing. World class in every way. So good!

Fecking naughty, mate. This gives me the piss shivers. So good to see that Split Enz can pack 'em in.
Such a lovely song. :)
Absolutely fantastic, a once in a generation pop band!
A generation isn't 100 years
The Finn boys at their very best.
I just saw Neil's crowded house play in Toronto and they were incredible!! These guys are sooo underated
What a great band.
Damn, that song alone is worth the price of admission
WOW! Sheer Brilliance Eddie.
My obsess song, and maybe favourite version 🤗💝
This sounds great
They need to get back together and tour again
Like six months in a leaky tour.
Got some of their albums which I bought late 70s onwards but my biggest regret not seeing them live 😢😢
Beautiful song..Amazing group
Excellent!
Phenomenal, moving, vast. Like taking to the oceans.
