The apple part was totally misinterpreted. It meant that the poet’s enemy has bore fruit of whatever he did and so later on he saw them shining bright (meaning that they were at peak)

Apple signifiies the evil which is the product of the continuos growth of anger, tree signifies the wrath and anger which grows just as a tree. The garden in which the tree grows is the heart and mind where the hatred is nurtured and acts like a ground for development of anger.
