Randall, I've been enjoying your wonderful videos for a while now. You keep me coming back because you're always bringing home something unique and interesting. After watching you putt around in the Austin 7, it occurred to me you are the only car guy I know of who has plenty of open property and no meddlesome neighbors who doesn't have a yard chock-a-block with wrecks. Now, that's willpower!

Oh Ive got my corner of the property with a neglected machine or two, but fortunately the neighbors are cool in our rural valley. I do try to keep the main yard clear, I don't wish to be a bother to anyone while I play cars. But yes...Ive got to keep myself in check or it could quickly get out of hand.

The wearable car. Looks like fun when you get your foot into it. Just the thing for popping down to the village in the UK.

That was so cool my man. I've always loved these little cars. I remember when i was a kid living in England my family, Mum Dad and three kids went on an all day rally in one. Still fresh in the memory. Cheers.

What a great memory! My wife and daughter hopped in for a short trip down the valley at sunset the other day and we ran out of gas! Fortunately the car weighs nothing and we could push it home...laughing all the way!

What a cute little car! You could put it on the trunk rack and use it as a spare for the Packard. I loved seeing the dog outrunning the Austin. It looks less like you are driving it and more like you are wearing it!

I'm sure i've only ever seen one of these run as a clown car when I was a kid! Pretty impessed by the way the engine starts and runs, can't believe you can cram yourself in there!

Its surprisingly comfortable really...but I do feel that I need big red shoes and a matching nose for driving attire.

@@Carchaeology Big shoes might be a problem for driving. Maybe a Bozo wig would work.

A very popular entry level vintage car here in the UK. They're raced, rallied, hillclimbed and trialled. There are also some amazing specials with racing bodies and supercharged engines. Herbert Austin got people on the road in these "Baby Austins" and they've been enjoying them ever since. Besides the BMW Dixi and American Bantam, there's also the French Rosengart and the suspiciously similar Japanese Datsun version. William Lyons started series production of the Austin Seven Swallow, which lead to SS Cars Ltd, which later became Jaguar. Colin Chapman's Lotus Mk.1 was based on an Austin 7 chassis. John Haynes first car repair manual was written from his experience of rebuilding an Austin 7. Bruce McLaren's first race car was a 1929 Austin 7 which is still kept at the McLaren factory. A little car with a massive legacy.

Crazy bunch of history! Im just starting my deep dive into these cars but it sounds like there are some incredible stories behind it all. So far though...what a hoot! It's like a little bouncy pen spring go cart on motorcycle wheels and a comically perfect exhaust note and horn.

Very nice! Hopefully the Amp gauge is fused. They are always live wired and could be a fire hazard. Cheers! Al

In Japan an American founded a car company building Austins under license .His company was called the Dat motor company. Which of course became Datsun.
In the 670's a school friends mother had one of the first minis which was badged Austin Seven.
So the car was in South Australia in 1969 ?.At that time the US and Australian government, under John Gorton PM, were setting up a secret base at Woomera Rocket base ,South Australia. I would hazard a guess that a US servicemen saw the car and bought it home to the USA .
In New Zealand during that time the US servicemen at Scott Base Antarctica would spend leisure time in NZ and would often buy 1920's cars in NZ because they were interesting and the dollar ratio favoured them, making the cars very cheap.

That’s some great information and history…thank you for that! I wonder if there is any way to track the ownership in Australia?

The tires are marked as “sidecar” tires!
