Watching this again after many years. If any RL player wants to see what body shape, showing the ball and tossing a dummy look like and what it does to a defence, watch Gregory and Panapa at 1:19. Just brilliant.
Alex Murphy comment at 3.20 is one of the funniest things ive ever heard in RL commentary. What a beautiful slick move and pass from Andy Gregory at 1.18.
@OhYeahOhYeahBaby That's always the Aussie's answer mate 'we weren't taking it seriously'. Brisbane weren't in 1994 I suppose either. Or in 1992 when we were the ones partying and we still stuffed em in the World Club Sevens. I was there for this one and it was a great night!
The Aussie teams finished their season. Most players were on the piss, having fun. So when they'd go to England, they're were a little out of shape, and not training. The English teams were in full swing, so of course they'd win. How about they do a reversal? Have the English team come to Australia in their of season, whilst the Aussies are in full swing down here. I can assure you, the Aussie team would eat them.
Even though other Aussie sides did win have rare wins, it wasn't really until Manly beat Leeds in 2009 that NRL sides really started taking the WCC seriously. Manly went not to have a holiday & a warm up for the NRL season, they went there to win and win easily they did. Now we just need the game to alternate between England and Australia each year. By not having the games in Oz, we're robbing our fans of seeing some great games. Remember the 1994 game attracted 54,220 in Brisbane.....
Load of rubbish. The Aussies took it very seriously but just didn't like it at all when they lost. Watch the Brisbane vs Wigan match in 1994 and try to tell me the Aussie players didn't take it seriously

Can't believe this is 20 years ago.

If there's ever been a better right foot stepper than Panapa then I've yet to see him.

Andy Gregory is such a dude!
Loved him at widnes we did ❤
its always the Australian teams have to play these world club championship games in pommyland each year.
What about Wigan in Brisbane?
Nice to see a widnes lad score a try rip David
This match was 8-0 on penalties in better than even time as I recall.
@rlimmortals If so, that's their fault. Had a chance to make up for it a few years later and were trounced by Bradford Bulls.
They don't swap kit these days :(
@OhYeahOhYeahBaby and speaking of that the old kop stand
I went this game......My car got nicked
+analogkid1963 So did I but I sensibly went on the train from Wirral so I could celebrate afterwards.I cannot believe it was 25 years ago.
