The first 90 seconds of this video made me wonder if I really want an Ebike. I've been looking for awhile and thinking that the Rad mini looks like my best bet, but geez... what a hassle all the electronics are. Ugh... I will slog through this to the end, but I already hope I never get a flat. At 74 years old, I am much less eager to perform bike repairs than I was when I was a bike commuter and a bike camper in the '70s - '80s. Thanks for making this video!
Great video, thanks for posting. I changed my Ecotric tire and wondered if the Rad mini was about the same. I am glad to say it is the same process. I wish my chain was as clean as yours LOL🙃
Thanks for the comment! Not sure of the size on the ecotric but I think it’s similar. I had a coworker that had one and it was the same size. 20” x 4.0”
Thanks for the video! I just received a RadRover Step-Thru and have Tannus Tire Armour in my rear wheel. My hope is this will protect my tire and tube of punctures.
Hi, thanks for sharing. For the derailleur protector, are you unscrewing the screws in clock wise direction? Because I can't get them off, trying to go counter-clock wise. Also do you recommend any anti-seize on the bolts, so they do not seize up? Or aluminium never going to seize-rust?
Thank you for the comment, the screws unscrew in the counter clockwise direction. I have not used any antiseize but I guess it would not hurt if you are having corrosion buildup in the screw holes.
Did your old tires or new tires have a liner inside them? My old radmini tires have a liner on the inside to prevent punctures but the new ones I ordered don't.
Really nice how-to video. 👍 Look forward to trying this on my 2020 RadMini. My current issue is I can't balance the bike on the ground, even using pillows underneath the handlebars. No clue how you got it balanced like a rock like that. It's way too wobbly, all 68lbs of the bike crashing on its side. Going to use a bike stand (low to ground, and flip the bike upside down).
Christopher Dillman I pull the computer up first to get it out of the way and then balance it on the pillows. It is still a bit wobbly but not that bad as long as you’re careful.
@@MatthewBechard just now finished getting the new tube in and tire on bike. Albeit tire is on backwards (wrong direction..) but whatev! What a pain in the 🐴 that whole experience was. You must have hands like Thanos to pop that tire in without tire levers. 😆
Did you ever find the hole in the inner tube? If so, why not just patch it and reinstall it? The only reason I would see not to is if it was right by the valve stem. Also, shouldn't there have been a nut to remove after the valve cap?
Thank you for the comment, the point of the video was to show you how to replace the tube. I have repaired several tubes and ended up repairing this one too. The valve cap was already removed, the new one went on too. Hope my video helped! Have a great day. ☺️
I'm looking for a winter tire for the red-mini 4 not easy to find. There are 20" tires out there, but vary in thickness. On Rad's site they have tire thickness anywhere from 3" to 4.25" in thickness. Do you know if the inner tube has to match the tire thickness for it to fit. Right now I have the CST Big Boat Tire 20" x 3.0", so If I get a different width tire, wondering if I also need a new inner tube?
I have not tried this myself but using a 20" x 3.0" tube should be ok. The rubber on the tube can easily stretch the .5 inch on each side to fill up the tire. The size down on the RadMini4 was a bummer in my opinion, it really takes away from the look of the bike not having the 4 inch wide tires.
@@MatthewBechard Yeah my screws are seized, you think I could use a torch, or would the aluminium frame melt away? Also there a different anti-seizes out there, copper, aluminium, etc. Do you know if I have to use a specific type?
@@raczyk I don’t use anything special, do you live in an area where they use a lot of salt on the roads you ride on or leave your bike outside in close proximity to the ocean (again, salt)?
@@raczyk got it, I would just use a grease type anti seize. Also maybe check the threads to make sure they are not damaged? Which screw/bolt is frozen?
Hi great video brother Matthew I need this information. I have a 2019 Radrunner I wanted to ask you if you know why the knobby Kenda KRAD 3.3 tires are extremely hard to get off? No matter how strong 💪 you are cannot remove by hand or regular tire levers! 🤣 My wrists are weak because of operations on them. I had to buy massive tire levers. I haven't tried them yet been forced to take to local bike shop for broken spokes 🤣 Do you think the smoother tread tires like you have are easier to remove or the 20X4 size easier to remove than 20 X 3.3 ? What is name of tire you have and size? I would greatly appreciate anyone's helpful information before next flat or broken spoke. From Soldier in GODS Army.
Hi Willie, thanks for the reply! Both the knobby and slick tires I have are 20x4 and they are the OEM tires from Rad made by Kenda. The slicks are the Kraze and the knobby are the Krusade. For the most part my experience has been that these 2 particular tires come off the wheels very easy. Yes you need to pry the edge off a little but when aired down all the way the tire does float around the rim. For the KRad 3.3 I have not used the so I am sorry I can not offer any further info.
@@MatthewBechard Thanks for the info 👍my brother u da man. I will have to try 20 X 4 size the 20 X 3.3 are to tight I have never seen a tire that is that hard to get of. Thats why the other comment said you have 💪 strong hands like Thanos. I will try to find out what other people are doing with this tire. The puncture resistant is not that good on these tires. I had to put a special Army sealant to avoid flats. I wish SCHWALBE made fat tires those tires are great 👍 anti flat.
Was wondering if 20x4 the standard size for the rad mini 4? Just received mines today nd want to have backup. Ordering on Amazon cuz Rad is sold out 9f the 20x4.
Thank you for the comment! The tire on the RadMini 4 comes with a 20” x 3” configuration and the rim is definitely more narrow than the original RadMini. At this point I don’t know if the 4” wide tire would fit on correctly to the new RadMini 4 rim.
Did you get the new inner tube from rad or did you just buy one from a store? I left my bike in the car for about three days down in here in Florida and came home to it completely deflated and won’t fill up now ugh
I’ve replaced 2 tubes and repairs one tube with a patch kit due to a small puncture. The tubes I’ve replaced have been purchased through the Rad store. It’s not to say you can’t find tubes elsewhere and for a better price, but I just rather have something that I know will fit the right way first time around.
There no wrong way to do it if it gets the job done. I have found with the fat tire tubes they do not alway deflate enough so it’s easier (in my opinion) to pop the tire off completely.
Thank you for taking the time to show how this is done. I feel more confident that I could change a rear tire now that I've seen the steps.
